Don't even like Simon, but...

His run was better than Jossi's. Comparing them side to side, Dumont basically did all the same stuff, but went bigger. Wouldn't that result in a better score? Didnt seem like Jossi's grabs were that much better, but whatever :)

simons 1st run had a sw 10 at hthe bottom where jossi had a sw 7, plus with simons 2nd run he only did a sw 7 at the end but still scored higher? and now with peter o's shit...scoring is a bit iffy on this hey

Completely agree.Pete's new double was dope as hell and with a fairly solid run didnt even get a 90.very questionable judging

not to mention jossis 92 barely had a grab in it.....meanwhile simon had solid grabs both runs on almost all hits and went huge.

robbed

i think simon got robbed but i see some reasoning behind pete's score. if you look at jossi and simon (the two better scores than him) there doubles were later in their runs wheras peters was his first hit and the tricks besides the double were better executed by simon and jossi. but that double was DOPE look forward to seeing it more by pete

See the difference is Dumont has no excuse for being a baby about second place. He has had the top for SO LONG, I think someone as rich and privlaged in our ski community as him can be a man and swallow his pride. Yes it was very close, I thought Jossi deserved the win, stoked on Olenick making a killer comeback, and frowned when one of the biggest figureheads in our sport chooses to whine about himself. Also I really enjoyed hearing him say the pipe at the last Dew Tour was "too small for him," being a good halfpipe skier means being able to kill it on any variety of pipes, you need to work with what you have. For someone to be around for so long to get mopey over 2nd place is a little pathetic, epecially when he makes $$$ everytime he flashes his target gloves.

just like the jossi on 6.0 thread says...... money talks, it speaks the same language as the judges. they are paid off by nike!

not buyin it, why wouldnt red bull or traget buy simons way to first? i think the judges scored the way they felt like based on their own vision of style, amplitude, creativity, toughness of run/tricks etc

Yea, I agree that the judging was a bit iffy, but that's the problem with judging a subjective/style based competition—how do you quantify style, and/or apples to oranges?
I think Simon probably should have earned the win, but Jossi's run was stomped and certainly arguably deserving. But, I also agree that Simon's reaction was lame. Sure, he has every right to be disappointed and he IS a competitor and I think genuine disappointment is better than feigning excitement for Jossi, but he would be a lot more likable if he figured out how to be honest in a more tactful/tasteful way.
As far as Peter's, well, I think he should have scored about a full point higher... that said, I don't think his run stacked up to either Jossi's or Simon's. Sure, his alleyoop dub flat was the tits, but he lacked the amplitude, style, and landings of those two throughout the rest of his run. Props to him for getting back on the podium after struggling for over a year. I know I personally wrote him off as a potential threat in pipe last year.
One other thing:
I think transition riding plays a way bigger role in scoring than many think. For example, Simon and Jossi both land at the very top of the tranny, skis pointed right where they need to be, whereas Pete slid/scrubbed/underrotated a few landings. Jossi, in particular, has such a quiet upper body upon landing and pumping in between hits...it looks so much more controlled and fluid, and I think that boosted his score. And, it should in my opinion.

no he wasnt.
i felt so bad for him, and said "what the fuck?" when i saw his score, he DEF. deserved the win.
pete didnt have the cleanest run, so he got 3rd, thats understandable...but simon's run was IGNANT, and def. deserved the win.

I agree 100% with what you said. Simon needs to man up and be happy he got second. Look at Tanner and Jossi, everytime they see one of there friends win, there the first to congratulate.

^ Simon

Also Jossi had one more hit than Simon did, while throwing in a couple shiftys which dumont didn't, putting Jossi ahead. Kids got mad style.

He got second, whats there to be pissed about. He looked like a giant cry baby on TV. Look at the pictures, he has the "my dog just died look". And its not like some no name beat him, his friend Jossi did, be happy for him, he would be for you. Watch the last Dew tour stop, Jossi was the first one out there to congratulate mike riddle on his win.

Sportsmanship is the word of the day. Simon Dumont needs to learn what it is.

the link wont work because it was the nbc livestream. i dont know where you could watch it again. maybe freeskier.com has the top3 runs online by tomorrow

Simon is a rider that is willing to put it all on the line in pipe to win. You have no idea how many pros sandbag themselves in contests. He knows what it takes to win. Larger contests like this have athlete meetings before them where the judges and competitors get together and talk about what the judges are looking for and what docks points. I am not in odgen but as a conservative estimate there was greater than a 90% chance that an this meeting occurred. simon would have heard what the judges were looking for and executed his run accordingly. Why should he be happy with second? When you are playing to win, there is no one who is more disappointed than the one that comes in second place. What incentive is there for simon to be in second when he is going to throw down a contending run. For someone like simon, riddle, pk, wallisch, Fuck, even tanner is disapointed when he gets second when first place was just so close and the rider did everything they could to win. Just because someone doesn't see it or say it doesn't mean it isn't happening. Yes, it was overdoing it for simon to be bitching and it does not change the outcome but i can see where he is coming from. As for joss, he was the first person on scene, any negative actions by him wouldn't produce any positives, or maybe competions like this don't mean much to him.

think back to last year after breck when jon called out the judges for bobby missing his grab. It is a similar situation.

Dorry was having a rough day, he seemed to be nervous almost on the course and didn't stop either of his runs. Im sure he'll pull it together and kill the next stop.

^ Dude simon is one of the richest skiers out there, half the people in finals most likely need that money so they can continue their ski carerrs, where as dumont is handed everything he could ever want/need for skiing AND get's paid. As for prestige, how about Simon being pumped for his team member Jossi, as he is on the Empyre glove team, which Dumont owns. He's just being a sore loser, can't even be stoked for one of his own riders.

^^^^

And on that note the top 3 (Jossi, Dumont, Olenick) are ALL on Empyre, he doesn't even give a shit his glove team just MERCHED dewtour pipe... Dumont needs a lesson in sportsmanship.

Usually I hate when people are poor sports, but dumont sort of deserved to be in a funk. Jossi's run was pretty sweet, but still, seemed like pretty much everyone agrees that Dumont deserved it. He had just as good if not better grabs, the same tricks, and bigger hits. I would agree that Jossi has really smooth transitions, but still can't believe he won. But hey, shout out to Pete O - I thought your original doubles weren't so great, but that dub flat was so freakin sick. Rest of the run was pretty awesome, too.

shut the fuck up.

I know im about to get karma hiroshima'd again cuz thats how ns works- retarded.

Your reasons for not being pissed are so invalid. They just sum up whiney ass bitches who can't scrap money together for themselves so they ostracize and antagonize the successful. I'm not saying its OK to be a sore loser, I'm just saying your reasons not to be are fucking retarded. How does his other success have to do with him swallowing second when he deserved 1st??? Just because he's at the top doesn't mean he can still compete and get angry when he gets robbed? One thing to be mopey about defeat, a totally different story when the comp is arbitrary.

Shut up communist asshole.

shut the fuck up you red ass hole.

did he not deserve what he gets now? Did he not work so hard from the age of 14 to get to where he is now? He grew up at Sunday River, not like all the products of the west you see these days. A true east coaster who grew up when skiing was young. He's an entreprenneur who's risked his future career on a sport that was nothing like what it is today, and it paid off. He deserves every penny.

Fuck you communist douche bags. good thing my parents escaped you fucks and moved to the land of the free where first place deserves first place.

first you complain how simon gets money and you imply you disapprove of simon recieving money for having logos on his gloves...

then you complain about simon not promoting HIS company???

I'd like to see the path your logic follows.

anyway, i can agree that simon could be way more tactful and tasteful.

If i recall simon was giving jossi props, and it's a little different when you get flat out beat, where in simons eyes and many others he had the winning score.
