ahahah, Huckandstomp got called out!! I love how he tries to rip on us by saying 'why dont u just go out and ski instead of talking shit on the net...'. That statement is completely idiotic. The thing is, all of us DO ski all the time and then come on NS later to communicate about our thoughts on life, ski movies, etc.

We need to keep this thread alive. We will keep the MSP boys up at night dreading the fact that their company has been called out. The stunt they pulled with WSKI is just completely out of line. It's starting to all make sense now. I can't believe what these fahkers are trying to pull.

for one, I wasn't exactly serious about saying level 1 has the best big mountain, because they don't have any big mountain, but I said for all I'm concerned they do, because I don't watch big mountain and when I do its to see hucks, and jon kozody and a few others do that in high five, but i know seth morrison, etc... are gods in big mountain yada yada...

however there is a large amount of the market on this site. good or bad news/info could hurt a company. not saying that it is in this case, and in all actuality, this is a thread about ethics, not film quality. I think poor business ethics is bad not only for the company you represent, but to the industry as a whole.

On the contrary freeskisquaw, I believe NS puts the power in the hands of the 'common person.' It gives otherwise disconnected newschoolers a chance to voice their opinions, gripes, beliefs and in that respect it is very much like a focus group. If industry execs. are checking this out it is painting a pretty unsavory picture of certain individuals.

Consequently, it also allows them to get the dirt on other situations in the industry. With all due respect, don't disillusion yourself. Every person's voice on here carries weight and DOES further the sport in some small way. These are real skiers, real consumers. Will it put MSP out of business. No, but it may allow certain people to make a more informed decision. If after reading this thread their choice is to buy the movie then, good, if they still want to buy it, more power to 'em. Of course that's my opinion... I could be wrong.

Competition is just fine. MSP makes great movies. Now that I know that the MSP people pulled this crap on Iberg and Berman I'm boycotting those fuckin' fucks. If I can see it for free, that's great, I'd love to see seth and the others kill it. But there's no way that ANY company is going to get my scrill$ once I find out about lowdown dirtbag unethical shit like this. MSP - learn the lesson and stop being pieces of shit because it will come back to haunt you. As proven by this thread that will continue to be bumped so everyone who comes to this site reads it. fkxpro, you do realize that there are, in fact, actual industry figures on NS? Levin's opinions are hardly hearsay, and even if they were, they'd be quite reliable. It's not just a collection of dumb teenagers... interspersed among the legions of morons are people who actually have places of influence in this industry. I think you underestimate the membership here a overmuch... not that I blame you. Given the majority of those members, I can see how that would be easy to do.

Anyway you look at it MSP is practicing bad business, and that’s wrong. The only reason that they have a big budget is because they got their foot in a long time ago, and that would be fine…if they kept true to the scene, but they didn’t. And because of that, their movies fucking suck. I don’t have to boycott MSP, I have no desire to watch 50 minutes of segments consisting of the same 3 shots repeated 100 times over in 40 different versions of slow mo. These guys just don’t know what’s up; they’re clueless, and that’s why their movies suck.

It would be one thing for MSP to have savvy marketing and use their big budget to make the sickest movies and therein turn a good profit, but it’s another to go out and try to take down other smaller companies. There’s so much evidence here from so many credible people that there’s no way to deny that there’s foul play here. Skiing is a small industry with a lot of small start up companies that have been formed out of a love and interest for the sport and the scene. Because of this we really can’t afford to have crap like this going on, it’s not fair and it’s not right. It hurts the industry too much.

I mean, you can argue all the business points you want, but you really don’t need to; just look at the movies. I’ve seen every MSP movie since Ski Movie except this years, and they just flat out suck. They do not represent what’s really going on in our sport, and that just sucks. I’ve bought every single Level 1 movie from second generation to High 5. They’re just consistently sick. For one, they don’t have repeated shots over and over again. They don’t have any time wasting slow mo. They also don’t have a big budget. But somehow yeah after year Berman produces the sickest movies. It’s funny how bad the MSP movies are for the budget. They can afford heli trips and even to hire a chopper to film from, but for some reason, Level 1 whose version of a heli trip is the dirty Mt. Hood spring snow can make a movie that’s unbelievably better than any of MSP’s. Out of all the movies this year, High 5 was by far the best. But it certainly wasn’t produced on the biggest budget, and that’s pretty cool, because it’s not something you find most anywhere else.

What MSP does to these small filming companies is disgusting. It’s sad that one ski company can be so cut throat to another. It’s really a bummer and MSP should be embarrassed.

RAGE Films new movie will have a blend of big mountain, jibbing, and booters. I work for RAGE Films and can't stand all the shit talking everyone does about everyone else. Enjoy the parts you can enjoy, like Tanner R's, and fast forward through the ones you don't.

We have received our fairshare of shitalkers and deal with in a professional manner; for the most part. I am about to watch the infamous MSP phone call. Enjoy your icy days, the snow is around the corner.

This thread is not trying to debate the stlye of skiing in the movies, this is about MSP's business ethics, nothing else.

 
The crappiest thing about the video industry is distribution... anyone involved will agree with me. You can make the best movie of all time, but if you don't have distribution, no one will see it.

On the contrary, you can make a peice of shit movie, but have the distributors wraped around your finger and end up selling a butt load.

This is the case with MSP.

Lets go back to the cover of the VAS catalog debackle shall we? there is more to this story than told previously.

True 1242 outsold MSP last year. True Winter is pissed as hell about this because he thought MSP should have made that movie inthe first place, among other reason. True, MSP threatens to never work with VAS again if PBP ends up on the cover of their catalog. true VAS backs down and puts MSP back on the cover.

NOW... MSP also demanded a 100,000 dollar advance on their sales... VAS bit on that one too...

So now VAS has a desision to make when selling videos. its not about who makes the better movie. its all about money and covering losses. VAS will sell more MSP movies than anyone else this year beacuse of the advance they gave MSP. If a ski shop owner says 'well I'm only getting one movie this year', then they are getting MSP wether they like it or not, because VAS has to recoup their 100,000 grand.

Congradulations Steve, you win... way to stay on top. I hope you are happy now and sleep restfully knowing you are the master of the ski movie universe.

actually, quality was a part of it, msp said bermens stuff wasn't good enough, in terms of quality. And also, many of the posts have been made in regards to movie quality.

 
Yes, many people have brought up film quality. Which would be why so many people pointed out that that isn't what the discussion is about. MSP movies are good, even great, depending on your tastes... but they're still a bunch of unethical dickwads.

I'm a long time listener to NS, but I just decided to voice my opinion after seeing this post. I've known MSP to pull some shady stuff in the past. Mainly throwing out the;'We're the shit, everyone else sucks' attitude everywhere they go. But whatever....

This shit is just childish though. If they're so threatened by other film companies, that's good. They should be....

Just ask Tanner, Jon, or Sage how much footage they've shot so far this year, then ask MSP how much they've shot this year......

This horse died long ago, stop beating it please. If you have no facts about shady/questionable practices, DON'T POST. Even though you think that MSP movies are pure shit, that is not a fact, nor is the way they edit their movie either.

MSP is using big business tactics in a small pond of very opinionated individuals, and it will bite them in the ass...hard eventually(judging by the interest in this thread).

Competition for cash from sponsors is tough for little companies, unless they have definitive proof of a superior product. On paper, I'm sure MSP looks better than L1P, as sad as that may be to a lot of you. Business has little to do with emotion when in the large scale toward which MSP is forcing the industry.

In my opinion, judging by the response to this thread, Berman has little to worry about. The people who support are far more vocal than those who support MSP. Sponsors will be there, but once you piss off a potential customer to the point of never buying your product again, I'd say you've got some re-evaluation to do. What you decide doesn't matter, but this should at least make you think.

Dfresh, how many people will it take calling you an idiot for you to shut up? seriously every post you make is unbeleiveably idiotic.

As for MSP- having never met or hung out with Steve Winter, but having spent time with Wais, Gaffney and the guys, they definately don't give off the 'cutthroat/evil' vibe that you're all portraying. If you dont like MSP's movies, dont buy them, but cinematography wise MSP is pretty unmatched.

The Winter shit sounds shady but so far we've only heard one side. Anyway, I think SM2 is probably the best ski movie ive seen, instead of ragging on everyone elses movies we should just say what we like and stop saying that this or that is gay cause its pretty lame
