this whole thread is retarded, there is less factual information in here then there would be in a 'tanner hall is dead' thread, this site is so good, but so bad at the same time, msp is sick, level 1 is sick, both for some of the same and some diffrent reasons, its all opinion so stop bitching about it and let people have there own opinion, dont try to teach them yours, fuck, everyone go ski..........

If Level 1 became a huge powerhouse in the industry like MSP and started bullying everyone(not that they would, but just pretend), would you be pissed then? MSP was once like L1, a small company who had to claw their way up. Think about how huge Greg Stump's movies were when MSP was making its rise.

It's business...business is shady. Look at every large corporation in America, all have somewhat questionable things that they do/have done. Business is a venture to make money, ski movies are a business, so it's cut throat for the little money that is out there for our sport. If it was a crack about sponsorship money, then that's a little low, but truth is truth, as sad and unfair as it is. Levin's story about PBP VAS and MSP is a classic case of business. Granted somewhat selfish, but that's what it takes to make money. You have to make decisions that not everyone will like.

I haven't seen High 5, but I'm sure I'll like, but in a different way than I like MSP films. I love watching skiing, any type, every type, all of it. MSP is great for that because they show absolutly all aspects of skiing that I am interested in, even ski base, it's different and I think it's fun to watch. I have Strike 3 and watch it almost as much as everything else.

Don't forget MSP, and TGR both started because someone saw a gap in what was being filmed. They got money together, found new undiscovered talent, and went for it. Same thing is happened ten years later with jibbing, except wannabe filmmakers don't have to have their shit together as much, since not much travel, etc. is involved. MSP definitely got played out in the last couple years, but Yearbook was a big turnaround. I've never seen a level 1 movie, but I'm not getting any closer to buying one with these asshole spraying a lot of garbage and not even having the common fucking courtesy to post the phone message that started this whole stupid thing.

 
in the process of looking for this i found a video of them blowing up some dvd. i think it said somthing like 'gwyen' or somthing like that on it.....any one els see this?

 
^^ go argue somewhere else about posts. this thread is getting less serious so let's bring'r back. the original point of the post was to let people know the anger towards msp and what they were saying. the message is too long to copy down but the gist of it was like this:

-MSP is using less of berman's shots to eventually slow down and not use any

-they want some of the more progressive and talented riders to ride with them

--my opinion = berman has the best riders

-steve winters also made a point of saying he had talked to some of berman's sponsors, dynastar to be specific, and he says taht the sponsors want their riders to start filming with msp *my opinion is he's implying he wants DC*

-in the future, small companies *he never specifically says level 1 but it is clearly implied* will get their budgets cut and they will have to fold

anywho i forget some other stuff but there are so many implications, and he knows he's beating around the point, coz he doesn't wanna sound like the asshole that he's being... and he goes about saying he doesn't wanna email coz josh might get the wrong impression... now i wonder why?...

so yeah i think it's very low to do that and i can only imagine taht msp is doing a lot of pushing around to try to get the sponsors to sway their way.. but i'm pretty sure berman's pretty tight with his riders, he seems like a pretty solid guy, and i think the riders know that supporting level 1 over a cockfuck company is pretty important.

(this post is long) now for some direct opinions:

Berman is a sick editor and a sick filmer. i personally think he gets some of the best shots i've ever seen. a lot of filmers tend to make rails and hits looks small and unimpressive while he manages to find perfect angles and get every shot. i find is aggrevating when you either can't see the entire hit + some surroundings in the shot or even if a person's head gets out of the shot. Also, i'm not anti-big mountain here, i think that a nice line is really dope, and a few big mountain parts really show a variety in skiing. i personally think that it's a lot sicker when people take newschool to big mountain and huck some gnarly tricks off cliffs. Breathe & Stop has a lot of reaaaalllly sick back country and i think that if you like msp flicks you should check out breathe & stop coz as well as having sick lines, there are a lot of dope tricks thrown down off cliffs(not to mention some off the hook jib segs).. and toa ll you people who are posting by saying 'fuck you dfresh you're an idiot, these are the dumbest posts... etc'... writing a post calling someone else's post dumb is equally as dumb. i think if you took a step back to read what you wrote, you'd realize that. i'm not done in here.

i forgot to mention, that another solid company(there are a lot out there) is plehouse. they have some good shit goin for them and they do stuff the good way and don't overlap or anything. they get good angles and make some pretty dope movies. good for them. redtape is excellent.

Halle-fucking-lejuah. Someone actually told us at least part of what the phone message was about (not the guy who started the thread BTW). Sounds like the guy leaving the message was being a big prick. Will this change what ski movies I buy? I doubt it. Mostly cause I don't buy that many, and the ones I do buy are old Stump movies and TGR, even though TGR had a pretty weak movie this year. Best of luck to Level 1, maybe they should get a different distributor than MSP (VAS), as it sounds like that's where part of this conflict is coming from.

 
well i am glad that i made the decision to not buy any msp movies. plus level one rocks i have bought every movie since second generation.

#3. Skiing is fun, movies are good, watch whichever ones you want.

#4. Sure skiing is also business, but with ski movie companies been very scarce, they should keep good connections with all of them, as they do NEED each other. MSP's business ethics here is pretty much as bad as stabbing your own brother in the back, and for that, they can go fuckthemselves!

buddy, look, berman is a good guy and he wouldn't do that. you don't seem to understand taht not all businesses are backstabbing money grubbing whores. our ski scene is small. it's business yes, but it shouldn't be cut-throat business. we're trying to keep skiing clean and good.

I love how none of the people that have posted in this thread (except for Levin) have any idea what it takes to make a ski movie. The truth is, all filmers in this industry, including Berman, are nazis about their footage. I have seen Bermans shit, and it isnt good enough for MSP because of the equipment used to film. MSP has a lot more $$$ and know what they want.

Yearbook is a way better movie than anything Berman has ever come out with. I agree, the people at MSP may come off as assholes, but nobody ever made it anywhere in business without pissing sombody off.

spinks, yeah i realize they might be footy nazis, your footy is what you worked to get. it's not trying to get someone else to fold and take their riders. but yeah it's total opinion what movies you like better. i like bermans better, and i might say sometimes they are better, forgetting to write 'in my opinion', but they are both quality movies. there are really dope skiers in both. i can appreciate why a lot of people would like the videos. it's just soundin like msp is a bunch of weaseling bitches.

Here is another example Winters/MSP's un-coolness:

Helly Hansen was to be a major sponsor of WSKI106. (For pollard, Dash etc.) That was until Winters/MSP convinved Helly Hansen it was not NOT in their best interests to contribute as much as they had planed twoards WSI106. this delt a MAJOR blow to the production of the movie... then Winters personaly went to Tanner and CR, bypassing Iberg and Johnny and told them he'd give them a *VERY LARGE* chunk of money twoards the production of WSKI if they droped Iberg and PBP and shot the movie under the MSP label.

That right there is fucking weak. Any way you cut it.

Notice CR not in the intro to MSP movie? He's never filming with them again because of it...

Imagine for a second what Winters did to piss off berman enough to make him put that phone message in his video in the first place.

There are a ton of people in the ski industry, Skiers and and Industry types alike, that are VERY unhappy with the way MSP has been running their show. Personaly, I think their actions are way out of line in an industry as tight knit as this. They need to realize that the success of PBP and Level 1, or any other producer for that matter, will ultimately be benifital to their bottom line.

i cant compare high five to yearbook seeing i havent seen yearbook and im not gonna make any ignorant remarks, but i like high five so far better than any of msp's past movies, i like the editing and music better, and just usually more creative and fun to watch, focused got old pretty quick

OK this is def a newschoolers site but some of you guys are HUGGGGE toolbags. One kid said that skiing pow is over rated. Dude try ripping highland bowl with 16 inches of fresh or dropping a thirty foor cliff with a safety or a three and landing like its absolutely nothing, then we'll talk you big vag.....
