Boom goes the dynamite - a large percentage of Acrua's made between 1996 and 2004 have transmissions that will be shot at 150,000 miles.

How do I know?

1) Everyone knows

2) Just got a $5000 bill thrown my way

Turrrrrrrrrrribbbbleeeeeeeeeeeee

Buy European cars, European cars are best cars:

You have no clue:

The most comprehensive and representative reliability analysis

covering all cars sold in Germany has confirmed the high quality and

reliability of BMW and MINI models. The latest statistics are based on

analysis of over two million call-outs handled by the ADAC road patrol

staff – popularly known as “yellow angels” – in 2009. In all the vehicle

categories, BMW and MINI models are among the vehicles providing the

least work for the “yellow angels”.

The ADAC calculates what they refer to as breakdown ratios to compile

the ranking lists in the various vehicle classes. These figures are

calculated using the breakdown frequency and registration figures of

each model over the last six registration years. This list shows BMW

vehicles are among the most reliable in their categories, not only when

newly registered, but also through later years.

Because people buy old trashed BMW's and wonder why the clutch is broken and blame it on BMW.

From all the girls I know that have owned a MIni Cooper in the past 3,5 years, not a single one has ever broken down.

NEW BMW: ridiculously reliable.

i have a 94 acura with almost 280,000 miles on it.

and it's never had any major problems.

maybe you should learn something about routine maintenance so shit doesn't hit the fan.

01 TL with 158,000. Its been golden so far except for the occasional expected repairs with that many miles on it.

American'ised Hondas. Some models are made specifically for the American market which Europe don't often see on the continent.

They aren't necessarily American'ised Hondas. Acuras are the luxury version of Hondas, just like how Lexus is the luxury brand of Toyota

thank you^

I was like wtf to that sweatyballs post, reliable my ass, maybe until the warranty is over. Its the same with all European cars like that (Audi, volvo, BMW, ect..) There reliable for a little while then all goes to shit and you get big bills and alot of them

this.

BMW's take some hefty up keeping (especially on parts). Mercedes, although not as sleek, are far more superior when it comes to long-term reliability. Audi's are decent, but not great either.

That said, German and Japanese are they only ways to go. Even though North American automotive companies are subsidized by the Government, the quality just isn't there when you compare them to the Japs. Nor do they offer the same sleek designs that the Germans do.

Good thing my moms is an 06. But any evidence I've seen fitting your criteria are consistent with your claims

aucura's are fuckin skanks. i fucked one last night. let me rev her. i shifted her damn hard. i probed her ignition. and pumped her full of my fuel. gave her some oil then rode her for the evening ending with me leaving

Dude, shit happens. Thats how cars work. My 2007 Subaru had to get a new flywheel and clutch. It blows but suck it up and don't be a bitch and make a thread on NS about it.

ask my mom that and her 2004 s80. Whole dashboard went out, electrical problems all the time. She just spent 2000 dollars to put in a new computer thing for her dashboard. My friend has almost the same car just a 2002 and he has the same exact problems.. My experience but i do love volvos.

Thanks for the thoughts - to the assclown that suggested I didn't do regular maintenance scone it ya jammy shit. Regularly had my car in for oil changes, check ups and a 150,000 mile check up not more than two years ago.

This problem isn't unique to me....see the hundreds of Google results on the matter and you'll realize there were limited recalls, and plenty of good will work done.

Thoughts on older Saab's? Would love to rock one of these!!

haha yeah you wont find me in an acura haha fucking POS, say what you will about american cars but i drive a 99 dodge durango with the 5.9 v8 with 222000 original miles, everything just like it was from factory, and it still looks good, but yeah gas sucks, hope i dont have to buy a suby haha

02 el. Its been golden not one thing except timing belt (181000). And before that, 90 Integra which had one timing belt done on it and a clutch adjustment it went to 355000. So yes op DO buy acuras.

For some entertaining info on saabs i would check out Top Gear season 18 (current) season, episode 5.

I guess they are pulling the plug on the company, From what i gathered in Top Gear, GM bailed out saab a few years back, and kept requiring them to change different aspects of the cars and designs, which saab would ignore.

I have no idea how they hold up, I have heard they can be expensive to work on, which I feel most euro based cars are in the US. Just given the average income an american buying a new european car makes, dealers , shops and parts companies know these type of consumers will pay extra when they have to, so now it has become expected. Obviously other factors come into play with foreign car repair costs, like specialty tools, fewer number of certified techs for that auto company, rarity of parts in the US and shipping costs for ordering new parts.

I personally have gone from a offroad v8 chevy money pit, to a classic 1987 toyota camry, to a 2002 outback, to a 1998 dodge intrepid, to a 1992 isuzu amigo, to a toyota 2002 4runner.

I have loved and hated them all at some point in my life. I used to be pretty obsessed with new and nice cars when I was younger. After realizing the other things you can spend money on in life compared to the cost or financial burden of loan payments, it is always been much more rewarding for me to spend that income on things that really make me happy and fulfilled.

All my car choices throughout my auto driving life have come out of living and financial situations that a struggling ski bum encounters.

I still love cars and trucks, I always do all of my own repairs that my tools and knowledge allow.

I would only go into debt over a nice car, if that were one of the top things I were most passionate about, and I could afford to drive that car like it is meant to be driven, and keep it in good shape.

my 2 cents is anyone looking for a car, get something that is practical for your day to day use and lifestyle, that you can afford to pay off in cash and perform scheduled maintenance on. I know too many people buy cars out of their income bracket and end up selling them much less than what they took the loan out for, so are basically paying on a loan for a car they no longer have. I know other people on the other hand that buy nothing buy 500dollar beaters, usually can get at least a winter out of them, then scrap the metal when the motor or tranny dies rather than repair it. One good friend has been driving for 12 years, has spent 2000 on cars over the years 0 repair bills beside quick fixes. He does get screwed on registry every couple years, but there are a lot of ways you can go about driving.

or just buy a really old beater car. there is probably a reason why it is still running, and if it breaks down, IT WAS CHEAP! problems solved.

I wouldnt say that my brother has an acura from 93 that still runs great with almost no problems

my dad has an acura 300,000 miles on it just recently and i runs better then my brothers honda that has 150,000 miles on it.
