Donating Life

I decided to make this thread in honor of a close friend of mine- Sid Davis- who recently was taken off of life support and yet continued to make other people's live better through being an organ donor. After he was taken off of life support, his kidneys were donated to two very well deserving individuals. Their lives will undoubtedly be better after his generous contribution. He was an incredible man, one that I skied with frequently and who had one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. He had a love for orange dreamsicles and would boast that his Steelers were the best team that ever existed. But most of all he had the most amazing smile and most contagious laugh. He was only 39.

So now here's the purpose of the thread, I challenge each of you to have the audacity to become an organ donor. It doesn't take very much time to register and it leaves you with sense of self peace and assurance (at least for me it did.) There are details on the website if you have any questions about donating, you can also pick which parts you would like donated if you have any preference . You do need to be 18 as well as have a driver's license in order to become a donor. I know that this might sound like a huge choice at a young age, but not all choices are easy and this choice is a brave one.

Here's the website if anyone would like to consider it:

Sad about your friend. Good for him being an organ donor though. I already am one. I don't understand why you wouldn't apart from any religious reasons

vibes man, he sounds like a great guy.

i'm only 17 but when i turn 18 i'm most definitely going to register to be an organ donor.

If i am in bad enough shape that the doctor would have to go all out to save my life, I think I would just chose death. Better to be dead and saving someone then barely alive and super messed up for the rest of your life. But I am talking really really bad shape. The type that leaves you in a wheel chair, sucking out of a straw with a blank stare on your face.

I am an organ donor as well.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. In my opinion, I think everybody should be an organ donor.

I'm curious to hear reasons why somebody wouldn't be one. So threads

I'm a donor, it wasn't even a question when I got my license, and on my military ID I put yes to donor as well. I'd like to think that if anything happens, my death will bring peace to someone.

I'm an organ donor. Why would you want to keep hoarding shit that people need when you die?

When I die I want to be burned and scattered at some cool places around the globe. Maybe have a friend take a little bit of me on tour so I can rage some shows.

Fuck kicking it with my organs in a box being selfish. Save some lives, donate that shit.

good stuff. When my dad passed away a few years ago a few of his organs were good to be donated to others, and it's definitely cool to know that a little part of him still lives on in someone else :p I'll probably be a donor too, no reason at all not to be.

Since when do you have to be 18? When I got my license when I was 16 I told them I wanted to be a donor. On my license it says "donor" with a little heart next to it.

I am a donor. Like everyone on here has been saying there is no reason not to be. Better to help someone in need rather than be selfish and keep them. It's not like you can take them with when you die.

i donate my organ to any willing female on a pretty regular basis. for real though, i'm signed up to donate. my aunt was saved by a kidney transplant when i was just a wee lad. i figure they might as well take anything i haven't already fucking destroyed when my time has come.

it's a double edged sword though - i don't want them to give up on me too soon if I'm badly injured just because the odds are against me and i've got viable organs. i'm scared that will happen some day. "Oh, he's too far gone. Let's pull the plug and harvest the organs while we still can." however, i just pray that i'll never be faced with this scenario.

I'm pretty sure they don't take them until you're declared dead. Meaning your heart is stopped and they can't resuscitate you.

yeah, but how often do hearts stop and then get restarted again? I want them zapping the shit out of my corpse until i'm burnt to a crisp - not just calling it a day and making me an organ farm.

sad new man sorry to hear that, im weary of og though say i get in a terriable accident and am on life support the drs say i might pull through but some person much more 'important' than me neeeds organs, obvioisly they wont work as hard to.save me because ie. the head of the drs partner needs my organs
