Donating blood

i donated blood for the first time today, primarily just to see what it was like. after it took about 10 minutes to fill the bag i felt ok...until i watched the nurse put the needle in one of my professors and saw the blood shoot into the tube. it didn't freak me out at all, but all of a sudden i felt ridiculously hot and starting sweating bullets and hyperventilating. after 5 minutes like this and almost barfing i felt a little better.

also, getting the needle put it EFFING HURT!

anyone else donate blood? i don't think i'll be doing it again.

one time i randomly felt like being a good person and getting some karma points, so i went to the hospital and was like "hi, i want to donate blood"

they were like "you cant just donate blood whenever, you have to wait for certain times when we do it, or do it on one of the remote blood busses we send out"

so she was like "heres the schedule of all the times you can come and donate blood"

and that just seemed like way too much effort, so i ditched that idea.

Pretty much everybody in my family donates but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I've considered doing it a few times, but there's a couple things barring me.

1) I hate needles. Hatehatehatehatehate. On the positive side, I'll never be addicted to heroin.

2) My blood probably isn't healthy to put into other people.

3) I'm not a good person.

the red cross does blood drives at my school a lot, so i figured today was the day. my blood better freaking save someone, i'm O + i think, universal donor what what

ive done it a couple of times when they did it at school. not a huge fan haha. supposedly my blood saves little babies. or so they told me. i think they were just trying to make me happy tho.

Yeah I've done it before, I have that rare blood type thats compatable with everyone..but the downside is if i get injured and i need blood i need my type.

One time after I was done with giving my blood i stood up and pretty much blacked out..That wasn't to fun, but fortuantly they had ORANGE JUICE FOR ME!!!! I was stoked about that

sarcasm or?

Anyway I don''t because I do sports and usually if you donate you can't do strenuous activity for a day or something I dunno.

I've only had blood tests done, never actually given blood because the donate blood mobile always seems to come at in-opportune times, like when I have a competition or something.

I personally refuse to do it...but on a positive note, my fraternity held a blood drive on campus and got record numbers to donate, so I guess it all evens out.

needles don't really bother me so even though i have the most common blood type, i donate anyway. one time i was kinda dehydrated and hadn't had much to eat the day we did it and when they finished and i leaned up to get out of the chair i passed out. it was funny to wake up with five strange faces staring at me. i know exactly what the thread creator is talkin about with that sick feeling. i tossed it in the garbage can like thirty seconds later. so...a word to the wise...drink a lot of fluids the day before and eat a good breakfast the day of.

type O is the universal donor that everyone can recieve.. and its the most common blood type, so i think you're fine.

i also had some sweet HI-C after i almost died haha, and some cookies. score! haha

i tried to donate a couple of times and got rejected.

no one wants my blood :(

probably a very very good thing

i dont mind blood and needles

just as long as its not my blood and the needle isnt for me

so no, i do not give blood.

Haha same. I think I could probably give myself a shot or something if I had to, but the whole idea of another person sticking that tube in me so my blood drains out just doesn't sit well.

I might do it someday just to get over my 'fear' of it, if you will. I'm planning on being an organ donor too so that kinda makes up for it I think.

there are blood drives here in quebec at my school. i don't donate because im worried a separatist might get my true canadian blood.

I had a really bad surgery after i got my foot rebuilt and i had to get the pins out in short they couldn't get the pins out and the doctors were freaking out all the nurses had to hold me down cause i was shaking and it hurt so bad nowi have this awesome little phobia of needles. I went to go get my cavities filled last week and i wad doing god then my doctor pulledout a needle and i started crying and hyperventalating it was super cool

I give double red all the time, thats where they take out your blood and plasma, separate it, send the plasma back, and do it agian.  Not bad at all.  Takes like half an hour and not painful, at least i dont think.

i don't think so...they ask you a ton of questions and that wasn't one of them. but if you've had sex with a man who's had sex with another man, or someone with HIV, forget about it

i have several times before, and i always get nervous right before and kind of sweat and feel sick. but in the end i know that i like to do it and i always feel good about what i've done afterwards. i also find that the more i do it, the less it hurts. bring a book too, it helps take your mind off of the fact that there's a needle in your arm at that moment. but nothing too complicated, i tried reading 'fabric of the cosmos' one time and that's hard enough to understand without a needle in your arm.

I've done it twice and it doesnt bother me at all especially since they had tons of free cans of ice cold pineapple juice and I got to chill n eat cookies.

I've dontated like 3 times now, last time being in the fall and I think next week I'm gonna do it again. so out of the past year, i've done it every time I've been able to. I personally think it feels kinda cool. also you get drunk a lot faster after you do it.

my dad and I race to see who can fill the bag the fastest. He's currently #1 with a time of 3:15. Bastard.

I've had bloodwork done every few months for all 20 years of my life, so needles and giving blood are nothing to me. Lucky me, I guess.

yeah, I just donated last week, the mobile clinic came to my university. It was Ok, except I ahd to do all this dumb paperwork that all said i didn't have AIDS. Then when i actually was having the blood taken it was the boringest 8 minutes of my life, and it smelled like a hospital which sucked. felt like i was doing something good though, because it migth save someone who was in a crash or needed surgery, like the people that put threads on here about there friends or family injured or killed in car wrecks. It even could save another skier!

^plus what the person above me said about getting drunk really fast is true, since you have about a pint less blood to water down your liquor.

i have never will again after i left the building and i fainted hit my head on the ground and was sent to the hospital i later found out that giving blood wasbt worht it cause my blood was unusable they never told me why just that i cant come back cause my blood is worth shit

i dont meet the stardards like weighing enough so i cant give blood...plus im anemic.

i would like to give blood though

I plan on it when I'm old enough if I can. I see no reason not too, I don't enjoy needles but I don't have a phobia against them.

i donate when ever they some to our local community center which is like 3 or 4 times a year

i do it cause i kinda beleive in the whole karma idea and it cant hurt to have karma on your side

plus its not a big a deal it takes like an hour max

and they say you cant do anything for the rest of the day but i find im fine ill go ski or whatever after

I donate every 6 weeks when I'm allowed to. I'm not a big fan of needles, but it takes like 10 minutes, and I feel pretty good about myself afterwards, so it's defintely worth it in my opinion. I'd urge anyone that hasn't ever done it to give it a try, at least once.

I had the same problem. HATEHATEHATE needles. But this was in high school, and I got out of some classes for it. So I donated, and didn't handle it too well. They kept me after making me eat cookies and drink juice until they thought I was okay.

Has anyone here donated their hair? Now that's a good feeling.

haha no, i wish. my mom asked the same thing.

i dont' get how people can drink the same day they donate! i was totally wiped out until today.

i gave blood my senior year in high school for the first time. it was real early in the morning and i didn't eat breakfast. the needle was in for like 15 minutes because my blood sucked. haha. it wasn't bad and i didn't feel like anything after, just a little tired. this one kid, did a cartwheel when he got off the table and passed out.

moral of the story. good for cartwheels. i'll drink to that.

i did it once in highschool but i was always too small untill my senior year. it really wasnt that bad besides feeling a little weak.

I wanna get mad high and donate blood. I know I'd pass out because my blood pressure drops but the person who got the blood would be mad high. Obviously it wouldn't work. It's just one of my crazy ideas.
