Donald Trump for President in 2012? Billionaire says he's ready to spend $600 million on campaignDonald Trump is ready to shell out $600 million of his own cash to become President. The billionaire business magnate and "Apprentice" star told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Thursday that his name recognition would probably save him "hundreds of millions of dollars" compared with other candidates. When asked if he had $600 million to spare, Trump said: "Much more than that. That's one of the nice things. I mean, part of the beauty of me is that I'm very rich. So if I need $600 million, I could put up $600 million myself. That's a huge advantage."The 64-year-old, who held the interview aboard his private jet, said he'd announce his decision by June.Trump's net worth is $2.7 billion, making him the 137th richest person in the U.S., according to Forbes magazine.President Obama raised nearly $750 million in 2008, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. In the wide-ranging interview, Trump slammed potential Republican rivals, insisting former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney "doesn't seem to resonate." The Donald said former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty isn't "going to captivate the votes" and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman is "disloyal."Trump also questioned Obama's citizenship."Everybody that even gives a hint of being a birther . even a little bit of a hint, like, gee, you know, maybe, just maybe this much of a chance, they label them as an idiot. Let me tell you, I'm a really smart guy," he said."He grew up and nobody knew him. You know? When you interview people, if ever I got the nomination, if I ever decide to run, you may go back and interview people from my kindergarten. They'll remember me. Nobody ever comes forward. Nobody knows who he his until later in his life. It's very strange. The whole thing is very strange," Trump added.Trump also dismissed speculation that his presidential bid was just for publicity."I have never been so serious as I am now," he said.

Spark notes: Trump is rich as fuck, so he is running for president in 2012. dear god....... this is scary. If he were to win i can't decided if i would leave the the country, or help lead a rebellion.

Trump's real estate/business knowledge? good thing. The cocky approach he takes with everything? ya, not voting for him. His political and foreign affairs knowledge? hmm... ya we've already got one and have been through enough people who have fared poorly in this category. Running U.S. affairs? He'd be as good as recent presidents. In conclusion, not voting for him. I'll fill in Barney over his ass.

actually, his business knowledge isn't as good as you might think

if you look for the right info, you'll see that he's not as rich as some think

Don't get me wrong, he is The Donald

but.....it's not as good as it appears

And agreed, he wouldn't be a good president.

Fair enough, his persuasive abilities with a heavy dose of luck. He's pretty dumb to potentially risk 600 mil of his own cash for something hes almost guaranteed to lose doing.

Yea he is. 600 mil is a lot, even for a billionaire that is good amount of money, and if he doesn't win he gets nothing in return except the misery of defeat. Defeat could really hurt his image, thus hurt his business. I think it's a real dumb move on his part. He's a business man. Sure the government is a business in a sense, but, let someone who spends their life studying it run it. At least thats my opinion, and if you don't agree, don't hold it against me haha

dare i say he probably has a good bit more knowledge and experience for the job coming into it than good ol' Obama? i mean, if nothing else, he sure as hell has a lot more recognition than obama did.

I'm not Republican or Democrat.

That being said, I would vote for Clinton if he was allowed to run again. He did a lot of good, not only for the US but for the world too.

Someone is going to hate on me for saying that, but whatev

yes and no here. with a buisness your primary job is to make money, the government on the otherhand is to rule the land.

either way though, he isn't cut out at all to do this. yeah he's rich, but does that mean bill gates should run for president?

whatever though. If he's the nominee for the republican party, obama will have a walk into his second term. If, by some act of god, only the uneducated vote, and trump makes it, i'll be moving the fuck outta here.

"I'm pro-life, anti gun control, and I wont raise taxes"

3 reasons in one sentence on why I would never vote for this moneyhungry ass.

he's in no health to be the president, dude doesn't even have a pulse I don't think. not to be mean, I think he has some sort of artificial heart which makes him not have one.

No, I believe that a woman should have the choice to be pregnant or not. And whether we like it or not, we need higher taxes, especially for the wealthy. Reaganomics has ruined our economy.

Clinton was the best president you lot have had in recent decades. He's a fucking smart guy, a genuine guy (i've actually met him on a golf course in the UK, long story... it was post his presidency too - his banter was pretty good).... and yeah, so he likes the Ladies.... who doesn't....

As for 2012 - the end of the world starts with all the tards that are coming out saying they're running for president...

Seriously - why have you got nobody who knows how to politics? There must be a good middle of the road genuine leader out there somewhere?

Everythings is far to left and right in this country right now...

the guy borrowed so much from different banks that when he has gone bankrupt multiple times theyve had to keep him afloat or risk losing even more.

In 2010 our government spent $3.55 trillion while they only took in 2.13 trillion. Do you really believe that the US government should raise the taxes to such an amount to cover the remaining 1.42 trillion (not factoring in the fact that the cost of spending is only going up).

Sure we could tax the rich even more which could result in sevral consequences:

1. By taking away more and more of their money for

taxes you essentially take away money that could

possibly be put into the economy or used in

philanthropic purposes.

2. It will drive them out of our country. The rich

like many businesses are currently doing will flee

to countries such as Ireland where the taxes are far

lower than here in the states.

3. There will be less and less incentive for working

hard to become "rich" because you will just be

penalized for it.

The problem is the amount that we are spending the problem is not Reaganomics is the infatic spending during the bush era and the era we are currently in.

Ironically, I'd rather have Trump, a very successful business man who knows how, and how NOT to run a business, in charge over Sarah Palin or any of the Republican candidates.

This shouldn't be a political debate because Donald Trump isn't a politician. End of thread.

Trump is great at one thing and one thing only.....marketing himself.

Back in the 80's when he took over his FATHERS real estate business he made some great deals and certainly made his share of money. When he started getting into the casino business he began losing his shirt. Its the casinos (which are run as individual businesses) that filed for bankruptcy. While he has certainly gotten his head above water from those bankruptcies he is not the same Donald Trump Real Estate Developer from the 90's. Shit, he doesnt even own the newest building with his name on it, Trump Soho. He owns less than 10% and acts as a "fee developer' on the deal. The Sapir Organizaiont is the majority owner. Not to mention that project is completely underwater. He lives by the real estate addage "If i owe the bank $500 its my problem, if I owe the bank $500,000,000 its their problem."

This is where his marketing prowess comes into play. Knowing that his real estate developent deals are drieing up he started Apprentice, a clothing line, multiple books, etc....

I guess where im going with this is he's an OK (at best) business man who got a head start taking over his fathers empire. I see a lot more first hand since I happen to work in NYC real estate developemt and I cant stand the guy. I find it hard to believe he is worth over $2B dollars.

In all honesty, given the financial situation of America, he's pretty much the right man for the job. I'd like to believe his intentions are only the best for America. He is smart, really.

i love watching woozy post in political threads. getting a bag of popcorn ready as someone tries to rebuttle. also, these needed to be quoted for emphasis

Oh shit! now he is marketing on NS!

Haha if this happened... Oh jeez.

Donald Trump for President

Flava Flav for VP

Ellen Degeneres for Secretary of State

Xzibit will be his main advisor.

Chelsea Handler will be Secretary of Defense.

AMERICA ROCKS.

I'm pumped Trump is running for president. He won't win the Republican nomination, and he ABSOLUTELY doesn't deserve to, but he'll definitely stir shit up and get people interested in the primary debates. This is a huge election for the future of this country, and the more people that end up watching the debates the more informed people will be. He'll grab viewership and in turn get Americans more informed about the election. So hopefully they don't just vote "Republican, or Democrat" because daddy said that's what they should do.

Trump is not going to run, he never planned on running.

He knows by saying retarded stuff on the news he can get a ton of free press for his shitty show.

The fact that people even consider him to be a viable candidate is pretty disturbing.

if it hadnt been for the scandal thing he probably would have gone down as one of the best presidents in history. hell even with the scandal people still regard him as one of the best if not the best we have had. i know i do. i wish we could get another president that would actually get us out of debt(like clinton did) and not put is deeper into it. republican or dem, doesnt matter at this point.

i bet he's not seriously even considering it, dude's just a media whore. but if he did run..well all i'm gonna say is the right wing needs to stop shooting themselves in the foot with idiots like palin dividing up their voting base. not that im a right winger but i feel bad for righties with legitimate arguments and ideologies that get associated with idiots like trump and palin. anyone who would vote for palin is just an idiot, straight up

he did say "would" get us out of debt. We would have been debt free if we stayed on the Clinton budget of his second term.

Someone said he'd be against raising high income taxes.... I have heard both him and bill gates(two of the most famous billionaires in our country) say theyre for higher taxes. I think a business man as sucessful as trump could help our country's economic situation very much
