Dog Buried Alive then Shot in Head

Tampa, Florida -- It's a horrific case of animal abuse: a dog was shot twice and then buried alive. Miraculously, the animal survived and now investigators want to find the people responsible.

"This is sick," says Animal Services Sgt. Pat Perry. "Someone took this dog, buried it up to its neck, shot it twice in the head, and then left it to die."

The mixed-breed puppy has been named Phoebe by her rescuers. An anonymous caller told police they heard three gunshots in the area Clair-Mel. Animal Control officers and police went out to the scene, where they found the dog buried.

"This is a sick person or persons that did this," says Sgt. Perry. "And if they did this to a dog, they'll do it to another dog, a cat, a child, a person, a friend... and they need to be stopped."

The big question is: why would somebody do this? Apparently the answer may not be as simple as animal abuse. This could possibly be a message to Animal Control from people who live in the Clair-Mel area.

Officers have been very aggressive in the area, and removing dogs that have been abused. They think this could be a message to them to stay out... but officers have no plans to back down.

They ask that anyone who may have tips on who was behind this heinous act to call police.

Donations to The Phoebe Fund may be made to the 501c3 non-profit organization Friends of Hillsborough County Animal Services or Friends of HCAS at P.O. Box 2191 Seffner, Florida 33583 or www.friendsofHCAS.org. PAYPAL is available.

I used to live near a guy who buried about six kittens in his yard with their heads sticking out and then ran them over with lawn mowers.

Just. fucking. terrible.

WHAT.

I know!!! but things like this happen all the time, you just don't hear about it. Or nobody finds out about it. When I used to live out in the country, the police found a farm filled with emaciated cows and horses. Why the owner wouldn't sell the animals confounds me.

I only came into this thread to see if that was actually in the right order. This is much less interesting now that I know the truth.

not just florida. Some kids up in buffalo hung a puppy 3 ft in the air, doused it with lighter fluid then lit it on fire. The pup survived and is now being treated. Things are looking bright for the dog but it's a fucking shame people have to do shit like that. Why hurt a defenseless animal? Especially a puppy :(

a bit overboard on the title there. I mean by that logic I've survived being buried alive tons of time as a child at the beach.

But I see your point, that is pretty fucked up indeed. I hunt and kill wild animals all the time but intended cruelty like this is messed up. Hope they find the people who did it.

On the other hand we have people freezing and starving in the streets in this country. It kinda blows me away how much attention animal cruelty gets, I suppose it's because there is no blame you can lay on animals.

Not gonna lie, I opened this thread because I was curious as to how someone would have burried the dog alive and then shot him in the head afterwards, as the thread title says. Like whaaat they burried a dog and then sniped him in the head through a layer of dirt??

But ya that's fucked.

They are sociopaths or psychopaths. Seriously.

People who abuse animals are 5x more likely to abuse humans in some form, and the vast majority of serial killers have/had a history of abusing animals.

Oh, strangely worded article.

As far as this though. There's worse shit that happens everyday. It's weird the things we decide to care about certain days and all the other things we don't give a fuck about.

Interesting. Is this national news?

Meh I hate how much sympathy domestic animals get versus farm animals. Shit equivalent to this definitely happens all the time in factory farms but we only care when it's a dog or a cat, even though the actual feelings of the animals are super similar. I am considering killing a dog and cooking/eating it on the side of the road in Toronto as a protest of this bias and help people not be so single minded/short sighted.

Lol I grew up in a farm and I'm still more compassionate about domestic animals. I have no problem going hunting, shooting a deer, and bringing it home for dinner let alone sending a cow to be slaughtered. However if anyone were to ever fuck with one of my dogs (I rescued an abused Pit Bull) I would also hunt them and probably kill them. I'm sorry, I know you have a different opinion, and that's fine :)

I read this going o that's so cute he wanted to take a picture of kittens with there heads sticking out of the ground, then I read the rest.

Id say it was most likely .22. One of the bullets went through the head and came out the other side. That dog is lucky to be alive. This is so fucked.

It's really true.

At the same time though I see the other side. One you're killing for a reason the other in this case seems to be for fun.

If you kill an animal to eat it, go for it.

We eat cows, try that in india.

It's just a cultural thing.

yea his opinion is different because its based on logic while yours is just a bunch of bullshit you've created in your own mind without really reflecting on it

Fucking sick bastards...honestly, makings of a killer.

I hope she gets adopted by the most loving and caring ppl ever.

lol k=there is no rational, fact-based argument that will justify what I've said. Not that you're smart enough to present it correctly even if it did exist.

Obviously there will be some bias as people relate to a dog or a cat, seeing that many people (myself included) view these animals as companions. However, any reasonably sensible person would be disturbed by this sort of action taken on ANY animal.
