DOES MY COMPUTER HAVE A VIRUS?

so, a few minutes after i connect to the internet and start surfin the web, i get this window that pops up and says, your system will shut down in 60 seconds. then it counts down, and shuts down automatically. i have no clue why, it doesnt happen everytime, but most of hte time. anyone know if this is a virus, waht it is, and how to fix it?

possibly. also, in many cases, if windows hits a fatal error processing something, it'll bring up that message and shut down windows on you.

You can check for viruses using a scanner (search anywhere on the internet), or in the other case where it could be fatal errors etc. you can run system restore and restore your system to a date say a week ago.

Im not really sure...but that happend to me, or something similar did, and we took it in, so take it in as soon as possible.

Thats sounds like the old blaster worm from like a year ago, but it must be something esle. is your windows updated and do you run a firewall?

go to google, and search for 'Spybot Search and Destroy'. download and run it. it will remove the problem.

YES YOU HAVE A VIRUS! THERE IS A FREE ANTI VIRUS PROGRAM THAT DOES A GREAT JOB THAT YOU CAN GET HERE(AVG antivirus) once you are done downloading it do a virus update and then run it! it should get rid of your problem. you mostlikley have the Sasser or Msblaster. Maximum PC magizine gave AVG a better raiting then norton or mcaffe! and it is free!

Who ever has this problem and does not know how to make their computer stop shuting down every 60 seconds do the following:

---------------------------

1. Disconnect the computer from the network/Internet connection. (Disconnect the cable if necessary.)

2. Restart the computer.

3. As soon as Windows opens and you see the Windows desktop, click Start > Run.

4. Type:

cmd

and press Enter.

5.Type:

shutdown -i

and press Enter.

6. In the Remote Shutdown Dialog that opens, change 20 seconds to:

9999

and click OK.

This gives you about three hours to get the patch installed, update the definitions, and so on.

7. Reconnect the network/Internet connection.

8. Connect to the Internet, and get the patch. Then continue with the steps described below.

heres what i did.....

-set your firewall up if you havent

-make it ask you everytime a program trys to access the internet.

-dont let any program use it that you dont know waht it is, and dont let anything that is something like systm32 get to the internet.

-you then wont get the thing up and can install the patch and re-set ur firewall.

it worked for me

spy bot gets rid of spy ware. it could get rid of that. it got rid of a whole buch of system stuff like that off my computer. also when the window comes up say that the computer will shut down, find the name that it says in the bar thing there. search for that name using the search thingy, and search the whole comp. if you find the name of that thing that pops up , search through it and its folders looking for suspicious DAT files. lots of them actually have the extension .vir for virus ... or .dll for something? then just delete it. this is basically what a virus scaner does but i find that these viruses can hide from the scanners so i do it manually some times. wow thats alot of wrighting.i hope it makes sense cuz i dont want to read it

shit what does system32 do? cause it says that is one of the detections. i cant delete i or anything

there is a virus in the system 32 file.find it and delete it. DO NOT TRY AND DELETE THE FOLDER SYSTEM32

just get avg! it will solve this problem of viruses once and for all!
