i'm just wondering becasue i no COC doesn't care they say yous hould but some people didn't and they didn't care

ya they do...i'm not a fan of wearing a helmet cuz i skateboarded for 3 eyars and never wore won and now i'm just never stoked to wear one especially when it's hot out and i gotta wear a hat underneath...not a fan

Why wouldn't you just take the hat off? You lose the heat and you're safer. Besides I'd rather have a mildly sweaty head than a bashed in head.

hmm sweaty hot head vs. brain damage. its a tough one but i think im gonna have to say id rather sweat

there really isnt a reason not to, and if you get a sweaty head you are wearing it wrong, ive worn a helmet every time ive skied and havent had a sweaty head lol

im more just defending momentum. it makes sense that they dont want to get sued and in skiing unlike skateboarding its "socially acceptable" to wear a helmet. its kinda stupid not to at this point unless you enjoy concussions and brain damage

having personally watched an inexperienced snowboarder brain an unsuspecting gayper (in the head, mind you)

i will always wear a helmet.....

Hey everyone,

Just so you know, the decision is not up to us (Momentum), it is an insurance requirement, from both our insurers and Whistler Blackcomb's.

For us to get insurance (which is A: required to operate a camp and B: harder to get all the time because of lawsuits etc) insurance companies need to know that we are operating as safely as possible, and that includes a helmet requirement. It's not something that can be avoided with waivers, it's just the way it is these days....

i would wear a helmet anyway i no there good for u but last year at CoC they didn't mind if people weren't wearing one they advised it was good to wear one but never enforced rules on it i was wondering if momentum was the same

"does momentum actually make you wear a helmet?"

yes

why?

short answer. Yes. Long answer, you're a tool for not wanting to wear one at a camp where you go to try stuff you've never done before.

Honestly, just getting nail by a gaper is enough to give you brain damage, what do you think will happen if you eat shit on a rail?

I heard they're having a sale on wrist guards this weekend at wal-mart, you should prob check that out. Seriously get off this kids back, you honestly think people who don't wear helmets are stupid?

people who who don't wear helmets and huck themselves over and onto stuff harder than their head are stupid.

is it really that big of a deal? I mean wear one if you want, its fine but you can't really hate on people for not wearing one, the majority of pros don't wear one and they do way crazier stuff than anyone on here

correction, the majority of pros DO where helmets, alot don't when they are filming, but when they are training they wear helmets.

No, not really.

But in time more will, mostly because as the current pros retire, they will be replaced by the ones who grew up with helmets on. It is now a socially accepted practice, and soon it will probably be a law, unfortunately.

It's funny how many parents think it's absolutely insane to let a child ski or bike without a helmet, or ride in a car without a carseat, etc. Even though most of these things are fairly new developments, and millions of people grew up skiing and biking without helmets, riding in cars without carseats etc, and yet somehow the majority of them miraculously survived.

If you all grew up wearing helmets everytime you rode in a car, then you would think that anyone who rode in a car without one was crazy.

dude, they always wear helmets in the big mountain, and always when learning new tricks. jon, simon, tanner, colby, jossi, everyone. they all wear helmets when training and sometimes when filming they don't because they know how to throw the tricks in their sleep for the most part.

It's simply straight up dumb to not wear a helmet. I don't care, lower my karma, whatever, but I don't think it should be a choice.

All due respect, but just for the sake of debate, you realize that there are quite a few sports where people do "huck themselves over and onto stuff harder than their heads" without helmets.

- Trampoline (lots of people get head injuries from hitting the frame)
- Gymnastics (Bars, Vaults, etc) produces some head injuries too
- Skateboarding
- Diving (head injuries from hitting the platform or board are actually quite common)
- Surfing (hitting the reef headfirst has killed lots of people, and even though surf helmets have been around for a long time, nobody thinks twice about people surfing reef breaks without one)

It's just interesting that nobody would consider these athletes to be "stupid" for not wearing helmets, but they think that skiers and boarders without helmets are "stupid".

Naaw, that's not what I was getting at. I guess I should have said that I DO think wearing a helmet is a good idea.

I was just trying to point out the differences in perception and "perceived danger". It's like when people are super scared to bungy jump (a safe activity) but not at all scared to drive around the block (which in reality is way more dangerous).

That's not to say that skiing is not dangerous, because we know that it is. So yeah, wear a helmet.

hahaha I hear ya, but you said - debate! .... oh believe me.. I will defend a persons "right" do to whatever they please to themselves. Don't wear a helmet, hell I am one of those stupid people that doesn't wear one. Just don't come crying when you have cracked your head, or worse out on the slope.

I also think it is silly that a lot of kids won't wear padding either cause they don't want their friends to know or they want to be more comfortable. The padding will allow more time out on the slopes doing what these kids enjoy.... but no....... hahaha dumb..

From a neuroscience paediactric study on trampolines:

"The majority of injuries involved children between 5 and 15 years old. Although injuries to the leg, foot, arm and hand were most common, 14% of the injuries were to the head or face. About 15% of all head injuries involved fractures, concussions and internal head injuries. Most injuries occurred on home trampolines, and ranged in seriousness from sprains and broken bones to spinal cord trauma and head injury. "

The point being: do any of you wear a helmet on the tramp? Papa do you make your son wear a helmet on the tramp? Probably not, but why? It's just an interesting look at how people's viewpoints are as much affected by social practices, as they are by actual risk stats.

skiing injuries are potentially much more deadly than tramp head injuries. since you're going at a much faster speed and falling a much greater distance.

That's correct, although it's not much of an argument because people do still die from tramp head injuries.

And if you want to use that logic, then you could also say that car crashes are potentially more deadly than skiing head injuries, so by your logic you should wear a helmet whenever you get a ride to the hill....do you?

I try not to make him do anything... Education is key. I don't however let them double bounce each other (well OK I have backed off that now) because thats when a large variable gets thrown in that throws them off and they are more likely to land funny. Mostly because , I told him I am digging the tramp into the ground when he gets back.

I try and provide the information say simply. you play you pay. be smart about things .

im definitely all over wearing helmets when im skiing or skating ... if anything your more likely to get brain damage skating than skiing cause concrete is hard a lot harder than even east coast ice ... go figure
