Worst case I'll just pony up the $$$ eventually and take a damn ski vacation. Just nearly impossible to get time off in the middle of the season, and in addition to not working, and probably not being able to get the time off, the trip seems like it would be $$. But it's Japan, so it's probably worth it.

not necessarily true but as much as id love to do a season in japan, its northern hemisphere. Turning down any park or grooming jobs to do bar stuff would crush me.
even for japan.
its all I know anymore. maybe I could do a season teaching lessons though. its been a while and not my ideal gig but japan.
13561908:Cream_Sauce said:It would crush you to shred pow everyday when it snows 20cm a day for weeks on end? Who gives a shit where you work if you're surfing pow everyday man.

13562303:Cream_Sauce said:This is what I don't understand...Why not work at a bar and crush park laps all day? Why not take a job that lets you ski more rather than take a job where you're kinda skiing but never really...skiing.
I never understood why people do seasons and spend the whole winter working on their skis, instead of really skiing. I'd rather work in a city and do weekend trips rather than go to a mountain, and spend the whole time holding gapers hands or digging parks.
That being said, get a working holiday visa and hit up Aus or NZ if you'd rather ski park than pow. Don't bother going to Japan if it's strictly for park.

13562464:AlsoKnownAs said:oh no! I never ski I just work. idk, maybe I actually enjoy building parks. Also I still get to ride enough that im happy. Honestly its totally fine and I have nothing against it, but for me, fuck working at a bar or some other job. I would and have done my job for free.
To each their own but just because something isnt your thing doesnt mean you have to be a dick about it. I like to build rails, I like to design park and contest layouts, I like diggin on something then shredding the final product. idk its my jam. lol at the thought that working in the city and skiing on weekends is better. you know days off? we still have those. At vail resorts they run 4 days a week. You have 3 days off to shred in addition to your riding while work plus youre probably already at or near the mtn not in a city.
Good advice about nz/aus although ive worked park in nz already.
also just because I dont want to give up my job doesnt mean I dont love to slay powder. its fine you dont get it but damn.

Couple of my friends went hiking and said the snow is hip deep with lots of facials (resort isn't opened yet opens tomorrow and it snowed like 40cm just yesterday)
13563264:Cream_Sauce said:You know that all makes sense, my feelings are more directed at the fellas that instruct every day all winter and only actually get to shred once or twice a season.
Also I was talking about something I was trying to understand, don't see how I was being a dick about it.
13563862:.tomskis said:Man the park is pretty much open from when they have the snow. By late Jan Hanozono will mostly have the halfpipe built and the big booters cranking. None of this month and a half in March rubbish
