Does god exist?

Not exactly. If you prove God exists, he ceases to be a deity that you have to believe in, which would make him just another powerful being that everyone knows exists. I'm sure people would still call him God, but it'd be to the same effect as calling the President God.
 
It is good that you can have a belief in something but to devote your life to it... well I don't know that seems extreme. Mormons have it down though because they are so happy with their lives and don't cause shit with anyone.
 
Catholic religion christians and everything will die out one day and be know as mythology, what happen to the greeks religions will happen to ours and every one elses. People are scared of the unknown so they make religion to feel secure. I was brought up roman catholic but i jsut dont think that anyone knwos what thier talking about. how is there so many religions, i mean who are the ones that are goin to go to hell.

My ONLY problem with western european/hebrew,islamic biblical type religons is that they completly exclude the possibility of other cultures belief systems -

The great question is who has picked the right religon - Everyone thinks they have the answer - and they are right, therefore everyone else is wrong.

How says some indigenous culture on some fucked up volcanic island that worships a flying turtle creature is not correct.

Religon is faith, faith is individual - therefore god exists to individuals in different ways -

God exists to me in my belief in humanities greater good - that we do more good than evil and we are judges by how we are remembered -

In my world/god view - afterlife takes place in my families memories -

Do not judge others - just let it go and be good - for we are all correct in our own way

personally yes i do believe in God. But no i dont go to church every weekend, i ski. I do not want to devote my life to God because i dont think that he would of wanted us to do that. As far as im concerned i think its fine to believe in God, but not to live your life worshipping him. And yes i do think of the possibility of evolution, but think about it. There is the universe and it is supposed to be everlasting, but i personally think that our universe and what not is MUCH to complex to be triggered. Something HAD to create the universe, galaxies, etc. Thus that is where God comes in.

And if you dont believe in him that is fine with me i dont have a problem with that. So thats my take on all of it, i tried not to type too much but i could of typed for pages lol

im not trying to make anybody believe in anything, i picked religion over gay marraige, abortion, and iraq etc. because i feel srtongly about it. im just so glad i have you here to tell me how to write my paper you fucking know-it-all
 
well i believe in god but as for hevan and hell im un sure, i shoot skeet and a guy at the club we shoot at had a heart attack. he was prononced dead for an hour but some how came back, he said the entire time i was dead there was nothin just black. his view on the whole situation..."well im glad i fucked all those girls when i was younger cause now i dont have to worry about hell."

i think it is possible that there is some higher power, but i do not follow any specific religion. instead i just try and live the best life i can. however, i think that religion is definitely a good thing, even if what people believe is wrong. it provides a good moral compass for people, not to mention that it has inspired a lot of great people that have changed the world. even though i don't believe in a christian god, when i have kids someday i'll probably still take them to church, just to expose them to that kind of thing. just like my parents did with me. let them make the decision.

and as far as the thread goes, I got stuck in the gondi with a jesus freak and he was talking about this stuff. He straight out and asked me if i believed in evolution and creationish. I told him that I though we evolved from apes and such and that I didn't believe in jesus and all that crap. He got pissed at that and went off from there. He started talking about how he builds cabins, and was like what would you think if i shows you this huge cabin i built and told you that a wind storm blew the trees down to fall like that. So I told him that I thought he was a nut job and he was like thats what its like when you say we evolved from something. I wanted to talk more, but we were at the top. So I just asked then were Jesus came from and the virgin Mary and then skied off.
 
I don't believe in God. I don't believe in any religion. I don't stand behind evolution and try to prove it every chance I get either. I figure that the fact that people and the world exist is enough...I don't need to know why. I just need to live.
 
i believe in god because if i dont acknowledge him at dinner and say grace i cant eat.... so if i quit beliving him i wont be able to have dinner with my family anymore

exactly. im non religious and i personally believe in evolution. but when i occasionally mention the subject to some of my christian friends, they seem to think that their religion is the only one that makes sense. this seems very odd to me as i have lately been reading up on worldwide religious beliefs and there have been things in said text that seemed to have made a bit of sense. im not saying that im the kind of person who thinks people are narrowminded and provintial, i just think that the acceptance of religion is the most important thing. even if you are not religious like myself, its important to accept religion for what it is, and not screw around with other people and what they think about it. keep your shit to yourself

2. In every cause there must be at least as much reality as there is in the effect

3. I am imperfect

5. Therefore, given that every cause must be at least as great as its effect (2), whatever caused my idea of perfection (1) must be perfect. Therefore a perfect being exists and this is God who created me.

 
what a good thread. Here's the thing, religion is based solely on faith. If a person believes strongly in it, then their belifs become reality for themselves.
 
What if you lived in a modern society where most people didn't believe in god and the majority had never even thought of such an idea. If you explained the concept of religion to them and the idea of god being a higher being, what do you think would happen?

Just something to think about.
 
i dunno about you, but i was created by my parents... and the lawsuit agains the condom company bought the house they live in... but in all seriousness.. we cant prove shit till we die.. and no one can come back from the dead to tell us whats really there.. and the people that have survived death cant tell us shit about anything cause they werent fully dead
