Does anyone want skiers and snowboarders to be in harmony?

The only people who even mention the rivalry are the ones who arent really into the sport, I think we've come a long way

There are way more asshole skiers than snowboarders at my hill. Actually...can't think of any boarders that are dicks.

Snowboarders are nicer and more fun to ride with than some skiers around here...

My sister is a skier and im a boarder and we are each others favorite people to ride with. I don"t know what all the hype is about. we all love snow, that's all that matters. There are a few haters here on NS, but f*** the haters!

Snowboarders are dope if they're nice people and I'm friends with a lot of them. But when I meet random ones they typically just call me out for skiing and it pisses me off. I don't say anything back but goddam it is annoying.

Idk all my friends are snowboarders and I'm one of a couple skiers I go with regularly. We all appreciate each other and especially the different styles. It's awesome and I wish there were more crossed over edits and movies because I love watching good boarders.

Until the day I'm allowed to ride my board on Alta, I'll never think skiers see us as friends. I would honestly prefer to watch films where skiers and boarders ride side by side. It's cool to see how the other side hits the same feature.

Man Idk where you ride but at my mountains everyone plays nice. The only people who even remotely care are the old timers and the only thing they complain about is that snowboarders heelslide the moguls and mess them up.

Sure people might poke fun at there being a rivalry between skiers and boarders, but when people are out at the hill riding together, I don't believe a rivalry actually exists, and if it does its all in good fun. I don't think very many people from either sport really, truly hate the other. At least where I am from.

so im hearing from a lot of you the feelings on hill are light hearted and kind. that is good.but does that excuse what is said in the parking lot, behind closed doors, on the computer, and in cases like the opening paragraph on transworld snowboarding about jossi wells? does it excuse what many snowboarders say about REAL SKI FI? show one of your snowboard friends REAL SKI FI and ask for their true response, i've read and heard gnarly comments...its almost like we are back in the mid 1900s with closet racism, but dont say that to their face. one last thing, look at the ALTA interviews, even the younger crowd disses snowboarding.

Here's a question; do threads like this help bridge the gap, or give credibility to all the circle jerking and bullshit posturing people have been doing lately? Personally, i don't think it helps because the people who truly aren't kidding about the ski/board rivalry are just attention whores, and the best way to deal with an attention whore is to ignore them.

I'm a snowboarder and I love Real SKI FI, as do many of my boarder friends. Unfortunately, there are douche bags on both sides that don't appreciate the others style. Most hate is from the old people however. They still see us as the rebels that ruined the mountain the only ride three times a year.

I'm still trying to figure out why every older woman who has ever commented on snowboarding via internet message board, YouTube video, or other online media has "Been taken out by snowboarders before".

I just had a good experience yesterday with some snowboarders. We worked together to build a jump casue the hill sucks and had no features. But anyway they were shit heads at first then they were chill then shit heads again. I dunno some snowboarders are cool and some are dicks. Same with skiers. Its all the same anyway

I miss smaller companies like DOS media putting out a film showcasing both...

as said above it's rad to watch both angles of the sport mend together for a single feature shoot.

Most of the "haters"...on both ends of the spectrum...seem to do it as it's the "fad", and a fucking lame one at that.

in my experience the hate is either sarcastic and superficial or from complete morons. most people are stoked to shred with eachother. personally i love riding pow with boarders, they take such a different approach and its really fun.

as for hating on skifi and other videos, i think it kinda makes sense that people have different perceptions as to whats sick in each sport. i ski, so i always think snowboard spins onto rails and such look sicker than, say, a switch back lip. same with boarders who would generally be more stoked on a skier 5050 than a 4 on pretzel 2. and really dude, its the internet, people just love to hate on anything they can, its how people treat eachother on the hill that really matters.

Sorry, but I think you are blowing this way out of proportion. You can't compare minor heckling between two different middle-upper class, predominantly white male dominated sports to actual racism.

I find the feud childish. I'd rather not even associate with someone if they are really that concerned as to how many planks I strap into before slide down a hill.

its not at all like rollerblading vs skateboarding imo.. which is where I think the whole snowboard vs ski thing was inspired from.

Such a dumb argument. Only gapers who know nothing and have no love for the mountains care what people ride, and they suck and go 7 days a year, while us and our friends get 70 plus days with hikes for runs, muddy slush, shitty ice, beautiful pillows, tree runs, smash into branches, get fogged goggles from so much pow, laugh after falling in the park and stand back up, skin for the dumbest runs, dropping into gullys underneath your friends, skier or boarder, spraying over you, setting up PVCs by ice rinks. That's real shredding and Fuck the hate, and Fuck gapers

This right here. I could give a rats ass whats on your feet; as long as everyone's stoked and enjoying themselves that's what really matters.

You're always gonna have dumb asses who stick to a dated attitude of hating on shit for no good reason. But at this point, I think anyone who's decently acquainted with snow culture is very receptive to both. I love shredding with my buddies that board, it's refreshing. I also really like snowboard media, and I have boarder friends that watch ski flicks. It's fun to discuss the differences of the two, and a mutual appreciation provides a better perspective on both sports. There will forever be those slow people who can't wrap their head around the concept of co-enjoyment, but I just feel bad for them as they're only missing out.

That moment when you convince your boarder bros to switch over to skiing.

I'm pretty sure what hondo wrote about jossi and freeskiing was in jest/ sarcasm

ive been to a few snowboarder superparks with the likes of Clayton Vila, Sammy Carlson, Sean Jordan and Dane Tudor. When I stand in the line up to shoot with the other videographers and the skiers drop, there is a ton of shit talking. They don't know that I am shooting the skiers sometimes, so they let their true colors out. I'm baffled that people say I am blowing this out of proportion and this thought is only felt by older crusties and people who dont know how to ride. ITS NOT! I hear the hate and read the hate all over the place. I for one love both skiing and snowboarding. Each has their strong points over the other, but overall, I have no preference over the other.

I'm glad there are a lot of positive stories here, but there is a separation that is growing...many just don't have the balls to say it out in public.

who's talking shit though? As I said earlier - you should probably stop hanging out with douche bags. Maybe your friends are the problem, not because they snowboard, but because they suck. Get out of the city, move to the mountains and become friends with people who are actually passionate about snow sports. Seriously, I have met one person who hates on skiing in the past 10 years or so, and I found out through the grape vine (he's a closet case hater, won't actually say anything to a skier personally).

Maybe you are the problem. Do you ride with just skiers, or do you ride with skiers and boarders? Do you treat snowboarders differently? Are you a closet case snowboard hater, and thus find something that isn't there in a snowboarder?

I think we should have separate but unequal parks for skiers and snowboarders. We get the big jumps and big rails and they get their skateboard rails that they can hike, at the resort, cause they do that
