Does anyone ski poleless?

some of my friends do just to make the point that poles are more steezy, they sorta dont prove it as no matter what they are steezy

i pretty much always use poles, but i know a couple people who dont and absolutely rip. this dude from breck goes consistently bigger than anyone else in the pipe and he doesnt use poles. hes real steezy and smooth too. some people are good enough skiers to be able to pull it off, but i think most need their poles to cover up their bad style.

using poles seems to take some skill, if you look at all the different ways people use their poles:

The Happy pole flicker- the guy who skis and flicks his poles at every turn really high

Snow stabber- the guy who ramms his poles into the snow really hard on every turn like he is a cave man

Beginner- the person who skis with their poles tucked under their arms or just has them strait back

Skilled person- one who knows precisely how to use the poles, and makes it all flow

if you take time to notice this riding up the chairlift it tends to get quite comical, me, i like to checkout everyones style as they ski.

i used to knock no poles steeze, and im guessing most people who think its gay havent tried it, i skiied a full day without them and it was one of the most fun days ive had this year.

Same situation with myself. I was first pretty against it, never thought I'd do it, went out to Hood and saw about 100 times more people without them, espically in the park, as compared to back east. Decided to give it a shot one day I got home and it was pretty fun, mainly in the park.

lots of people here at hood go no poles in the park. seems perfectly fine (for the park) to me.

when i do that i feel like a penguin, or liek those little kids you see snowplowing at mach 3 with no goggles down a green. i jsut feel wrong without them.

skiing with poles is far better, but you need good ones, for example the leki straps mean they dont interrupt your grabs as much

its starting to get like that in minnesota. mostly because he have high speed tow ropes and the poles sorta get in your way when you are just doin lap after lap.

I sure do.....I mean I ski most of the time with them. but its wayyy fun without them, sooo freeee. And I think if you cant ski with out them you dont have good balance.

I left my poles at the lodge once and took around without them. I'm scarred for life. It looks so gay without them and it doesn't feel rigth either

what is the advantage to skiing without poles? Easier grabs? Learn to grab with poles and have skill...

No poles aren't necessary, I ski just fine without them but I enjoy their company

watch andy mahre ski a powder line with no poles and if you know your ass from a hole in the ground your opinion will change, shit your life will change.

skiing without poles is like getting a blowjob from a guy, it feels good until you look down and relize you're gay

i love poles, and i love pole straps, i could NOT ride without them, plus when you do your arms loko stupid like they should eb diong anything .i can see y people who film dont use poles, but they get used to it there an exception to the rules
