Does anyone know anything about digital speedometers?

so i bought a madass 50cc today for $500. turns out the digital speedometer doesnt work. it just reads 0 mph even while im riding it. does anyone have any idea of how to fix this?
 
if you don't fix it and you speed and get pulled over you could be like "Officer, I didn't know I was speeding" Which isn't a lie.
 
probably not. but it would be best if it works considering im planning on doing a 160cc engine swap over the winter.
 
Trace the wires and get a voltmeter and check to see if the leads going to the speedometer are fucked or not. Check the wires first to see if they are even connected/grounded. If you're getting power to it and it still doesnt work then you need a new speedometer.
 
buy a portable gps and mount it to the inside of your helmet visor

alternatively,

only ride on streets with radar signs
 
take it to a dealer, or a very good mechanic.

If you start fucking around with the wires yourself, and aren't sure what you're doing, you may void the warranty, or the insurance
