Does anyone in the Great Lakes area hit handrails?

Just wondering...... It would be sick to get more people involved in Michigan and the surrounding areas. I mainly ski in Kalamazoo and Grand rapids. Anyone else have spots on the east side? up north? down south? I would love to ski new spots around here.

Armada, Myself and Spencer Milbocker made a 10 minute movie this year in Michigan skiing in the cities. And damn! It was a good season. If more people were actually into it, and we had enough eyes out there finding new spots; The Midwest could be even a better place to ski. After living out west for 10 years I finally realized that I have everything I need right here in the midwest to be a good skier. If we all worked together around the great lakes, we could create something insane. We created something great out of Michigan this season and now its time to bring that to the next level.

If anyone is really serious about this, or has a spot they know of, hit me up on here. The movie comes out in October; if you see a spot you want to hit from it, let me know and I will tell you.

I don't ski handrails yet but plan on doing so in the near future. I just saw this spot today off the side of the road in benzonia MI... A sick quad kink but it's literally right next to the police department so it's probably a horrible idea to try and hit... Your call though haha it would make for a sick ass shot. Sorry for the small image, all I could get for a picture was off of google streetview. If you want to check it out it's 505 S Michigan Ave Beulah MI (ish)

It was indeed a great season in the streets, with the help of some more people with spots it could be so sick! Cant wait to see what this coming season will bring with it.
 
Thanks Andee! I will have the check those out. We are about to be ON ONE again next season leftly. People will know you can be good at skiing and live in Michigan. I am going to make sure the Industry knows. I am gettin the Itch real bad right about now.
 
Same here. Once they see what was put together by just a small crew of us, I think they will be blown away. Im getting the itch real bad, ordered a bunch of new camera stuff yesterday and I get it Friday. Im so ready to get back into the streets. But yea, after they see this 10 mins of just fire it'll get michigan on the map for sure. And there is so much more here to ski, gotta look for it now!

Traverse does have some potential, I grew up 45 minutes south & have always drooled over some of the spots with in the city limits. It just would take some creativity & looking around, but there is a spot that immediately comes to mind : across from Meijer there's apartment complexes ontop of the hill. Believe they're called Hillview Terrace apts. There are some more than prime rails up there, a dub kink or two & a long downrail. All single bar & good pitch. Each have parking lot run-in. Not sure what security would be like up there.

Thank you Mike Hornbeck for what you're doing in Michigan. I was hyped on "The Hills" series that you & Armada put together last season. I want to see more! I've had a fucking blast growing up and shredding around MI, glad to see some good notoriety.
 
Well if the west end of superior counts as great lakes... I'll be in Duluth this winter, down to hit em and have a google map of too many handrails than what I know what to do with in Minnesota.

I found the downrail on google earth! I think I see where the dub kink is to; between two of the buildings going down to the playground? Def gonna have to check it out.
 
Jonjon That would be sick to ski some stuff up in duluth. If I am ever in that area ill get ahold of you. I know a couple spots but havent been in years.
 
Sounds good! I'll bike around a lot this fall and probably find more spots. Nothing beats a city built on a hill for finding handrails.
 
I've got a list going in my phone of 50+ rails/wallrides/other shit in Southeastern Michigan, mostly in suburbs of Detroit. Great potential here, I just haven't had enough people/the resources to hit many of them. If you're ever in the area or thinking about coming down, hit me up! Would love to ride with you and show the what the mitten is capable of!
 
There's a lot of us on the other side of lake erie (cleveland area) who love to hit handrails but the snow is rarely enough here.

Ohio has some real good spots! I havent skied in ohio since 2007!! I would be hyped to come back and hit stuff. stay in touch so we can shred!DM me if your serious about it!
 
I live in GR and dont ski hand rails to much, but I know alot of spots, that you probably know too, knowing that you grew up in michigan, but maybe I could give you some new ones, Ill reply back here in a week, with some pictures and locations

Pittsburgh is a goldmine for street, and i have every tool you could possibly need! winch, generator, cameras, shovels, lights, etc..

If you can get out here i'll take care of the rest homie!
 
Been meaning to tell you I have a ton of new spots. Some of them are business parks that we plow so Ill be able to put the snow wherever it needs to go. Theres a bunch of massive handrails in Cedar Springs right off Northland Drive. They're littered all over the administration building and schools. One company we do has the parking lot lower than the drive on one side. Has a 15-20 foot retaining wall with a flat handrail. You could hit just the rail. rail to wall ride. wall ride to rail. use the wall as a QP. Ill have to send you that one when Im working over there.

Just passed it dodging 75 traffic on 475 - 69 the other day and flipped out haha
 
Mt. Holly. I love that Hill. Small, but the fast runs and rope tows make up for it big time. There are also just a megafuckton of rails in the North Side of Flint and the surrounding areas. You never get any bother from locals or police (Because there are like 13 cops for all of Flint). I got a list of about 20 spots all within a 20-30 minute drive from each other.

Im actually from the harbor springs area up north (nubs is the home hill) and if you and spencer are doing hammers again or are up just for shits and giggles, I would love to show you some spots in harbor/petoskey/charlevoix area.

I been scoping flint from google earth and there looks to be some goooood stuff. Def would be stoked to link up and see whats good. Dont know there area very much.

oakland park in kzoo has a decently gnarly triple kink. If you could get past security Western and GVSU both probably have some real gnarly rails. Also when's the 10 minute Michigan segment dropping???

Thiss. I've heard rumors and got pretty damn excited. Saw a shot of you sliding a rail in Kzoo right down the road of where my sis lived in the 'zoo. Love being able to recognize the spots personally.

The last one is of aquinas college. There are there some solid rails in a very small area of each other. A DFD, long Down, and DFDF I know its a college but if you could hit it at night, it has great potential

Is that oakland park rail a red ish color? I think I know what your talking about. I forgot about that shit this winter. It like comes down from some restrooms or pavilion? Its been years since I saw that. damn.

Michigan segment should be coming out this month. I dont know when armada plans on releasing it. Its ready to drop for sure!

If your ever interested here in ludington we have this crazy double c rail. It's probably 30 feet long. It's basically two down ramps going to the break wall, and the handrailing curls down and follows. Would make a sweet double shot. I'll snag a picture of it when I have the chance

MSU Bio Station/Kellogg Manor House located on Gull Lake has some super sick semi scenic stuff. If the lake freezes I'd challenge you to hit the triangular structure fixed in the water. Besides that you've got a concrete flat down flat down flat closeout type of rail as well as stairs that I know you'd like to get shifty on haha791531.png large stair sets are located on other side of this feature. I'm sure you could find some wallrides. Also now that I think of it theres a triangular roof near the Dorms of the Bio Station that I believe is a greenhouse of some sorts. One part of the roof is really low to the ground so you could get on it, also a hill run in for it. Could do some dope redirection stuff or use it as a jump. Bio Station actually has mad spots if you can get really creative with it, which I don't see being a problem.

There she is. Curves around symmetrically to the other side to. Could be interesting. Pretty decent run in too. Sort for picture quality, it was dark so I had to turn it up.

I think everyone in this thread can come to the consensus that you straight greased that! Houghton/Hancock looks like a blast with all the snow it gets, hoping to get up there this year.
 
Theres a super long quad kink at Calvin College, that would be sick to hit at night if your interested. Theres also a really nice down rail and down flat down at Aquinas. I'll try and get pics up tonight!
