Andrewg told me it's "smelling and smoking under the hood." I don't really know what that means, but I told him I'd post the problem for him, so someone tell him what's wrong now.
 
electrical connections shorting or rubbing and causing smoke and soon to be a fire?

no no overheating at all, although one day i was coming back from skiing and a hose leading from the coolant tank burst. good times, stranded.
 
describe the smell, if its acidic and harsh its probably electrical, if it smells like burning oil...it probably is, if it smells really sweet and humid its antifreeze/coolant, if it smells kinda like burning rubber it could be belts slipping, or a hose that has fallen and is melting etc, if you ask extremely specific and detailed questions we (I) can help somewhat but it is very difficult to diagnose over the internet.
 
is steaming/smoking. its not overheatinmg. its dripping oil. so it sounds like a blown head gasket possilby. it still runs.
