Does anyone eat Paleo?

you wanna pull the animal cruelty card, maybe you should stop eating eggs too. nice username.

I don't have a very strong opinion either way on it, except that focusing on eating fresh / non-processed foods and cooking it yourself is going to be inherently better than processed products regardless what macronutrient ratios you eat.

The opinion of the medical establishment isn't solidly 1 way or the other. I work with a doc that loves it and recommends aspects of it to all his patients. And there are others that say follow the old guidelines and eat most of your calories from carbs. Nobody really knows, and what works for you might not work for someone else anyway.

Most humans have evolved enzymes to break down lactose so if not lactose intolerant what other health reasons are there not to have dairy products?

Environmental reasons? If you're Paleo, you eat meat. The meat industry is worse for the enviroment and has more animal cruelty than the dairy industry does.

I try and keep grains to a minimum. Although I love a standard toasted blueberry bagel with butter... And I eat a bunch of yogurt and take a probiotic. Haven't been sick since. Hoping to keep that trend rolling..

I've always loved cow.. no doubt about it. Although for the past few years I've been experiencing high blood pressure so I decided to take a little break ( as in: eating red meat 1-3 times per week rather than 3-5 times per week) and I've seen change in my stress and BP levels.

Maybe it's the salt that goes along with the steak/burger? or the red meat itself.... in any case my BP has dropped and I am happy. I will probably keep to this "new" "diet" and add some more veggies to keep things the way they are now. High BP is no good.

just because we have the enzymes doesn't mean it's good for us... we are supposed to lose the enzymes when we are finished weaning. lactose intolerance is normal.

and you said that there are no good reasons to give up dairy. I said nothing about meat in my post.

I follow more of the "primal" diet than paleo. I could never go 100% since i work at an italian restaurant and i cant exactly tell my chef that i have to stop eating pasta. I see nothing wrong with dairy products especially when raw, i do limit my lactose intake though. I mainly just consume butter, ghee, heavy cream, whey protein, and cheese.

I also still eat quite a few carbs through out the day. Sweet potatoes are my biggest source, i also eat a lot of bananas and plantains. White potatoes do have toxins in them that makes some people say that theyre not paleo, but i still eat them in moderation. I also eat white rice from time to time as it is the most innocuous grain since it has its bran removed which contains the saponins and phytic acid.

really the biggest part of eating paleo for me is the meat side of things. I have been getting very into raw meat, organ meat and fish. Ive been making tartare, carpaccio, ceviche, and sushi quite a bit. Bone marrow and gelatin are other new favourite foods of mine. Osso bucco and lamb shanks are sooo fucking delicious, and theyre super good for you too.

Then theres the whole fat side of things, now i always seem to have the most ridiculous collection of fats at home which could range from, olive oil, coconut oil, macadamia nut oil, avocado oil, butter/ghee, lard/bacon fat, tallow, and duck fat. I can buy duck fat in bulk at wholesale prices though my work, so im going to start doing a lot of deep frying with that as its fucking delicious, but i can also render lard and tallow for even cheaper so those will be used as well. Haha its not to often that you think of deep frying for health reasons.
