Does anyone eat Paleo?

Title says it all... wondering if anyone in this giant skier black hole is on board with the cavement.

its almost impossible and extremely expensive to get enough calories to support my current weight using a paleo diet. that said, i do essentially eat a paleo diet...except i add low glycemic starchy carbs to every meal. and eat some dairy throughout the day.

its something i like to call a "healthy, tasty diet".

General question: Why do you like it so much?

Just got bored. I actually felt great while doing it. And it wasnt hard at all! Great diet and im going to get back on it soon

You're pretty much Paleo then... what carbs are you doing?

Paleo is amazing, I feel better than I have in a while. More energy, was lifting way more than usual at crossfit today, and I've been eating Paleo for about a month.

I eat cheese and have half and half in my coffee. But I'm grain free, sugar free, and legume free. I eat a lot of bacon. Woooo.

atta girl! been wondering if there were any other crossfitters on ns. and i eat bread on my sandwiches once in a while but besides that im pretty much paleo. love it.

2 cups of oatmeal(dry) for breakfast

whole wheat roll(sandwich) for lunch

whole wheat bread(sandwich) for preworkout snack

brown rice or sweet potatoe, or wholeweat pasta for dinner

COOKIES!!!!!!! for bedtime snack.

also have greek yogurt for morning snack, and milk with my protein shakes and with dinner.

I have tried full paleo, and felt super rundown and tired after a week.

Yup. Crossfit for life. I've been thinking about starting an xfit cult... eh?

californiagrown.... if you didn't make it past a week on Paleo, you wouldn't have started to feel good from it. Takes atleast a week or two for your body to stop withdrawal from grains/carbs. It's called carb flu. Not telling you what to do, by any means, just stating fact. :)

again, to get 5000 calories a day my food bill would be $200/week if i went full paleo. Its not worth it for people like me. IMO its the healthiest diet out there, although some people use it as an excuse to indulge in fatty meats too often.

well thats a fucking stupid name, cause you are still eating plenty of carbs -fruits and veggies.

And FWIW i absolutely hate Xfit for a plethora of reasons.

Ideally yes, but I'm not super strict with it (aka, too many cheat meals). I've basically cut out grains though. One of these days I'll tighten it up a bit.

Essentially yeah. No processed foods, no grains, nothing that has to be cooked to be edible. Legumes, etc. Good fats, lots of protein, and low glycemic carbs. It's fucking delicious, actually.

i try to abide by a version of a paleo diet, but i could never go all the way. every now and again i need a big greasy sunday brunch or some crappy snack food..

Paleo is consistently evaluated by professionals (not crossfitters, but people who studied medicine) as one of the worst diets (and often the worst diet) out there if you are trying to make any sort of progress in weight loss or improvement of general health.

And no, I don't want to read some article written by a college student, Whole Foods PR representative, or crossfit personal trainer about how they know so much more than medical doctors and nutrition professionals.

Care to link to these studies? I don't do the whole palio thing. Tried it for like 20 days, found it hard to keep my daily calorie intake high enough and i didnt feel any better. but I've tried to like halfway incorporate it, trying to switch a lot of my grains with meat/veggies basically.

I will say I did try this "diet" a friend told me to try for more energy, basically eating only fruits and limited nuts from morning to night, but you can eat anything for dinner, all in one go, meaning like 45 minute window. And I felt awesome, I'd wake up with tons of energy, like excited to get out of bed, and be super pumped and energetic. Which I'd never felt before

Modern human nutritional requirements (eg, the need for a dietary source of vitamin C), features of the modern human gut (haustrated colon), and the modern human pattern of digestive kinetics (similar to that of great apes) suggest an ancestral past in which tropical plant foods formed the basis of the daily diet, with perhaps some opportunistic intake of animal matter.

Specifically why is it "one of the worst" diets for improvement in general health?

Lean meats, veggies, and fruit are all good, healthy things no? Along with a Multi, and some nuts and cooking oils you have covered all your dietary needs, right?

what are the studies saying?

They always talk about how the diet isn't goal specific and difficult/expensive to follow. It isn't geared towards losing weight or lowering cholesterol or something like that. It's basically a generally healthy diet with a bunch of theory thrown in, and due to some of the foods it prohibits would require you to supplement your diet in order to get the nutrients you need.

I don't think it would hurt anyone, but the reason it is consistently regarded as a poor plan by nutritionists generally stems from the points I just made.

Ugh. To many carbs and not enough veggies. I've been vegan for 4 months and j love it. I eat as much as I want whenever i want and i look better and have more energy than ever before.the paleo sounds boring ..food has to be fun! Don't miss meat one bit.

but seriously, paleo blows

this is where it's at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruitarianism

I don't like the idea of paleo because like someone said above, its too hard too get the calories needed to maintain my weight. But i agree with some of the basic principles obviously , like fresh fruit and veggies and staying away from preservatives. But isn't that common sense? Plus i fucking love peanuts so you can just fuck right off.

Carbs, not fat. If i stuck to strict paleo, my peri workout nutrition protocol would fucking suck.

When i am maintaining weight i basically follow a paleo diet+dairy. when i need extra calories i add in rice, potatoes, and Quinoa.

I am the least lactose intolerant person ever, and i love every kind of dairy...ever. i see absolutely zero reason to not eat all kinds of dairy.

But i still think that Paleo is probobly the healthiest diet out there for pure health reasons.

Lets not forget that cavemen lived to age 30 and the japaneze, who eat lots of rice and fish are the longest lived people with the world record 120 yr old japaneze woman. Just saying

I like the eating healthy ie. lots of fresh produce part of Paleo but unless you are lactose or gluten intolerant there is no reason to cut out all dairy and grains out of your diet. In saying that there are a lot of fat people that would greatly benefit from this.

We weren't ment to drink milk ment for baby cows just my opinion. Also cross fit (not that I do it) is rediculious its been around for 10's of years but only recently has gotten a 'sexy' brand attached to it. Just my opinion though

I do sort of. I've cut out dariy entirely except 1 cheat day a week and have some ice cream.

Having a hard time cutting out oatmeal or cereal in the morning though. and just eating 3 eggs and filling up on fruit is too much sugar I think. But lunch and dinner are completely paleo unless I didn't make the meal and theres some sort of sauce or stir fry or something w/ the meat and veggies.

uh not sure what you mean by cavemen, but we have been fully bipedal for almost 2 million years. not sure why that is relevant anyways.

I've been big into crossfit for several years. I've heard all different opinions on Paleo, the zone, and other diets. It all comes down to what works with you and your lifestyle.

I've tried paleo, but to cut out all the processed foods and eat organic is expensive. For the last two weeks I've cut out bread and all those high carb and processed carb foods. I have a cheat day once a week where I'll eat some carbs for dinner or randomly throughout the day. I honestly feel great.

For those saying you can't get enough calories on paleo, you're wrong. By taking out a food, you simply replace it with another. Veggies and meats are absolutely great for you, I would rather eat meat than bread or pasta anyways.

I also don't believe in the dairy portion of it all, most dairy products have additives and high sugar, just be aware of what you're buying. I love chocolate milk and I eat cheese a lot.

and BACON, I love it. I eat roughly a pound or two every couple days.

Thats awesome it works for you and others, OP, but why dont people just eat healthy in general? I dont see the need to follow strict guidelines on what to eat, just cut out crap food, drink lots of water and balance your diet. Seems more natural IMO
