Does anyone care about the enviornment?

Im shocked. I expected most of this site to be big envionrmentalists seeing that most everything we all do involves the out doors in someway. However after reading the democrat thread and a few others im kinda shocked. People in that thread were talking about how they think drilling in alaska wont hurt the envioronment at all. Im not sure if people are just very uneducated (im not saying im a professional on the stuff but I am in college to become one). It shocked me that only a few people seemed to care about how migrating birds went to get a drink and eat in a pool near a neuclear powerplant in Canada and nearly all died a greusom death. Some ignorantly said that "thats just Canada it couldnt happen in the US or other highly developed countries" but it does. Im not an anamal rights freek or vegan or anything i just have understood how delacate the balance between different species in the global ecosystem really is. When hundreds of anphibion species go extinct every decade due to human global abuse dont you think we should do something? You might be saying "who gives a fuck about some little frog in the rain forest" but that frog probably effects its ecosystem more then the giant panda that everyone and their mom is in love with. Im not going to argue on Global warming because I myself am not even sure on how i stand on the issue

I feel the gas price rise as much as anyone, i commute over 30 miles round trip to my job because i live in bum fuck egypt. But Im the first one to say ill take the high price for a few years if soon we can get a clean safe and global energy source.

This one i dont have any info to back it up but i got it from class notes and it stuck in my mind. people waist so much clean drinkable water that the 2% of clean water is being dangeriously close to being depleted.

Last point probably the most scary to me. If we keep growing in the same rate that we have been for the next 1000 years there will be around 1700 people in every square yard of the globe...ocean arctic everything, something will give by then and the population will eventually find its carying compasity and survival of the fittest will kick in. Do you think you would be able to last?

I just had to do a short rant and i hope my line of thought isnt to jumbled to follow

Somebody just needs to start showing people how they can become eco-friendly while still enriching their own lives. I think most of america does care about the enviroment, they're just not willing to make the sacrifices that are necessary to save it.

I have done many a papers(using published papers as resource) on the effects of pumping oil on the enviornment due to where I live and really I can say that if there is a negative impact and its small.

But I do support the enviornment no whats bad we aren't growing enough grain. Big farms are over working soil and the nutrietional value of food has been going down since WWII. We electricute most animals we eat after we pump them full of god knows what in a pin to small the move around and then spray the carcus with emonia to kill the bad stuff it got when t was treated so badly.

Seriously a couple birds or frogs how much that would screw up the world imagin not having bread or vegtables with the nutricinal value of potatoe chips.

As for the population it will be downsized by some natural disaster or super virus someday.

Do i think i can last? ill be lucky to last 1000 years until that matters!! *insert other ignorant ass fuck statements*

I really care about the environment. I dont use much power, I recycle what ever I can. I would participate in demonstrations and protests or cleaning up the woods.

Its not that the people on this site dont care, they just are too stupid to know how the eco-system works. I always take this site with a grain of salt.

The reason why the general population (except Quebec and Ontario) dont care is because its expensive to change. Climate change is a great booster to get people interested in going green. We only have one world.

Recently I've become more and more aware of just where I stand in this world.

How insignificant I am on the planetary level ecosystem (like how if I do something, it will hardly make a difference) But I'm not one, together I make up around 6 billion. That's 6 billion parasites on this planet with the power to fuck up everything this universe holds sacred. It's kinda scary that so few people care about the environment.

But thats why every conversion is a beautiful thing. You don't have to be some tree-hugging hippie to protect rather than destroy. Although I feel I'm going to end up being some radical environmentalist with the way my life is going. People need to realize that as humans we got VERY lucky that we became the dominant race - gotta love that anthropic principle - and we should use that luck and respect this planet and love it and try to understand just how unimportant we really should be in terms of the planets ecosystem.

I realize I went off on about 4 or 5 strange tangents there but it's summer, so fuck trying to make sense. But I hope someone read it and realized how insignificant and powerful they are at the same time.

Take a solitary trip into a secluded environment and look around. You can't deny the absolute beauty around you and you're bound to become some sort of environmentalist. Whether it makes you recycle more, use less energy, or start a public campaign against the oil companies. Every person can matter.

You do know that the theory of global warming is the least of our problems right now...How about the decimation of our ecosystems and the exponetial rate of species extinctions we are facing right now? Just because the new trent around the world is to believe global warming doesn't exist doesn't mean we still aren't fucking up the environment royally.

I signed up for a firearms site a little while ago called canadiangunnuts.com. The people in this site absolutely amaze me with their stupidity and ignorance. These guys have a "wait and see" attitude towards global warming and the human impact on the environment. Half believe that if we keep doing what we're doing the consequences will be minimal. I remember one guy mentioning something along the lines of "whatever we've done can be fixed one day through science." This attitude pisses me off.

I'm not a hippy, I'm not on our schools green team or whatever but I still believe that we need to protect the environment. I also wrote a really long blog about an idea about the future that I truly believe is going to materialize. The world won't end when we fuck up the environment, it will just be a really shitty place to live in.

i feel like until we get off oil, and start using renewable energy, and until we decide as a planet to somehow stop the population growth, until we make pretty huge changes, everything is kind of fucked. i mean, sure, ill try to drive as little as possible, car pool, not leave lights on, buy organic when i can afford it, shit like that. but i think the real problems are more national and global than personal.

Say Al Gore won the presidental election back in 2000, do you think he would have made a big effort to save the environment?

Ha, its people like you who deter the efforts of people who are willing to stand up and make sacrifices. Nothing is EVER enough when it comes to the Earth and its climate. You are a selfish beezy if I am understanding your comment correctly...

How is having a thousand or so square mile radius for drilling going to hurt the environment?

Did you know that the Alaska Pipeline is saving the wildlife during the winter?

Keeping our planet nice will take some sacrifices, but I do agree, theres a lot the average american family can do that just takes a little more time and thinking, not money or changing a lifestyle.

Peolpe need to look at thing differently so many people look at things in black and white instead of the greyish middle. No one ever wants to comprimise they either want all oil or no oil ; cut down all the trees or no trees. Why in the world cant we comprimise and have some oil and some tree. Its like if im not chaining myself to a tree I'm considered an enemy to the enviornment.

and dont leave fucking trash on the fucking beach! my brother and i always pick up shit we see on the beach, weve been out surfing 3 times this week and his trunk is now half full of idiots trash. if you like the beach, keep it clean, and if you dont like the beach, throw your trash on the floor at you own house!

I drive a prius. I'm in the surfrider foundation. I try and conserve energy. If I'm in a good mood I'll pick up other peoples trash.

I'm sure your definition of saving the wildlife goes something like this...Disrupting natural migrating patterns causing confusion and death within a herd. Big oil stations also disrupting migrating patterns and breeding grounds. But ya, it's really all swell!

This idea is totally wrong but even so how will it help the environment, it isnt enough to stop fucking it up, we have to take a step in the other direction

Yeah, no.

The pipeline is keeping the wildlife warm during the winter so that means less hypothermia for the little animals and big animals alike.

^ so what do you think they did before the pipeline, they tucked there shit in and dug snow caves now there are just little bitches

"thats just Canada it couldnt happen in the US or other highly developed countries"

so does that mean that some people think that canada is not highly developed county?

BLAME CANADA!

SHAME ON CANADA!

For...

The smut we must stop

The trash we must bash

The Laughter and fun

Must all be undone

We must blame them and cause a fuss

Before somebody thinks of blaming uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus!!!!

i love the enviroment. i want to live in a hand built fort in the woods for the rest of my life. people who litter and don't recycle and shit are just straight up lazy.

i care so deeply about the environment. we skiers should be some of the people leading the charge. everything we do depends on the environment. people just need to stop being lazy and care about the earth sometimes if they really love our sport

I feel like any time someone throws this "green" stuff in my face it makes me like the environment less and less. I doubt anyone on this site actually cares about the environment enough to do anything anyway. Most people are like that though so I don't blame anyone. Just the way things work. People don't care about the world or other people enough to do anything about it, they care about themselves and living comfortably, and thats about it. There are some people who care enough to make a change but I'd bet that about 95% say they care and think they might care but don't do anything to prove it, they basically just claim they care because everyone cares so much about the environment nowadays

Please Please tell me your joking cause its been talked about for nearly 8 years now.

Or atleast tell me you are serious but your parents droped you on your head as a child.

right... but if they froze to death before we had oil pipelines... how are they still alive now that we do have oil pipelines? that seems contradictory.
good thread btw, +karma

We are on the road to destruction.

If people refuse to change, then all I ask is that they don't bitch when the inevitable comes. If you refuse to change the way you live, to go on destroying, extracting, and consuming, then please do not bitch when your gas prices go up, your heating skyrockets, you can't fly because it is too expensive, you can't ski because there is no snow, or you can't live because there isn't enough food or water to feed you.

And all I can can say is that the people with no say in the matter, in low lying islands in the south pacific, will have you and me to thank when their homes go underwater so we could drive around instead of taking the bus.

Eco-friendly sytff should be made more comfortable and then we might see some improvement. Like whos going to buy a hybrid car when they're ugly ass hell and suck ass in every way?
