Does anybody else think baseball is not a sport?

i wrote out a long, detailed response, but straight up, i realized that i'd rather just call you a jackass. jackass. wait until you reach grade 12, take a biomechanics course, and eat your words. i don't even consider baseball as one of my favourite sports, but you're just ignorant.

see its one thing to have an opinion, but its whack to have a miscontrued opinion, such as yours.

You say that baseball requires no athletic ability. Yes, you said that directly. And certianly during many games, and many innings, there isn't too much going on. But it is quitessential that a player, regardless of position, can react at the drop of a dime, whether on defense or offense. Games change drastically in a split second, and atheleticism really comes into play. It can be running to first, second, third, home, whatever, it could be chasing down a ball in the infield or outfield, where every aspect of time is crucial, so running, throwing, reactions, etc., all are crucial. This may not be the most eloquent argument, but really there shouldn't be one.

If the pitcher is doing his job, most of the time there isn't too much going on. But when shit does happen, like I said, athleticism, as well as precision and skill, are what make or break a game.

I was going to go into the history of baseball and how anyone who disses it should just keep their fucking mouths shut because its one of the greatest sports of all time if not THEE greatest.

but instead I'll just say you're an idiot.

and also, saying that swinging a bat doesnt require use of your legs/back lats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

ALL of your power comes from your legs! you use all of your muscles. I bet you think that boxers only use their arms too huh? you know that a punch starts at your toe and works its way up your entire body before it goes through your arm?

Also, pitching is like one of the hardest things to do in sports and requires a shit ton of endurance. With your definition of a "sport", more than half of sports out there wouldn't be considered sports.

I think that you're fucking stupid. Maybe it is only 90 feet, wait, what's a triple? I would love to see you run a triple and beet out a throw for it. Baseball uses pretty much every muscle in your body. Hitting clearly uses your arms, and your entire upper body, and even many muscels in your legs. Pitching is something like 90% from your legs, so that makes up for the hitting aspect. Pretty much you are the most ignorant fuck on the planet.

wow anybody who thinks baseball isnt a sport should die in a ditch and be the devils servent and every night needs to stick their dick in a lava bath for an hour and suck a 50 foot cock for an hour..and thats being nice

by your definition skiing isnt a sport either because you just stand on some wood planks and fat old women can do it. takes no athleticism whatsoever, right?

i meant that as in like "yeah thats being really nice..." like you said at the end of your quote. i wasnt being sarcastic and bitching at you. i think he should die too.

I like it cuz it's one of the only sports where you're not trying to get a ball in a hole or a goal or a net or a hole with a net or a ball in a cup.

We're not saying it's wrong to have an opinion, but your opinion is freaking dumb and we've proven to you that its a athletic sport but all you're doing is being ignorant and flaming our responses, therefore, you're an idiot.

haha how bad you owned him? what on how you have to use muscles to throw balls like a queer. sorry bro but baseball is not cool. Why are people trying to argue that baseball takes alot of strength and fitness. Most baseball players are fatasses. Plus baseball is gay anyways.

when someone here pitches a ball at around 100 miles an hour for a couple innings with accuracy and consistancy then I will listen.

base ball players that dip have dipped so much that they dont get a buzz anymore so it doesnt affect them what so ever

my friend is on my schools team and all they do is run the track and do laps so yeah i guess you can be fat in t ball but not when you get older

and why the fuck is golf not considered a sport

your sir are retarded

I know so many people that dip while playing hockey. Also I dont even play baseball becuase I'm horrible at it. I can admit that, but it sounds like you may be as bad as me at it, and can not handle not being good at somthing. So you need to say it's not a sport to make yourself feel good. I may be completly off I just can't think of any other reasons why someone would think its not a sport and takes no athletic ability.

When you can hit a 80mph curve ball, catch a ball that is dropping from like 300ft, and can throw a ball from center (400ft) to at least the mound then you can bash baseball. Baseball requires a lot of agility and speed. Also very good hand eye coordination is needed to even try to play. But its true, its probably the least CARDO sport, but its a completely different set of skills from other sports.

you speak the truth brother.

i play catcher. after a 9inning game i lose at least 10lbs. you should try squatting down on your knees for 2 hours when it is 90f degrees. and a kid will charge at you full speed from 3rd to try to knock you over and at the same time you have to catch the ball coming in.

and seriously how can you say that baseball con not be a lifestyle? for some kids as myself baseball from spring to fall is my life. im at the field every single day in the summer. then how can skiing be a lifestyle for you to?

you need to actually know baseball before you can make an arguement about it.

u dont think outfielder haul ass to catch fly balls, and base running.

Being a pitcher myself i can assure u it takes a lot of work to be able to throw 100+ pitches during a game while maintaining velocity and movement on ur pitches. Sure what u see during the game may not appear hard to u, but take a look at what is done before games, during practice, etc. Surprising enough, pitchers actually run the most every day to keep their bodies in shape, endurance up to par, and for arm recovery. Try hitting a 90 mph fastball (let alone, throwing one), or maybe even seeing one then getting a pitch 20 mph slower next. Howbout staying on a nast curveball or slider. Not only does it take a lot of physical ability, its a lot of mental work too.

Basically, dont give anybody all this bullshit about baseball not being a sport. U make urself sound like an ignorant douche bag

i hate having to point all this shit out, but really there is tons of cardio involved. Most people dont realize how much endurance is needed, esp for pitchers and catchers. It is very essential

and...i dont give a shit about david wells, so nobody even mention him. Hes good cuz he throws some nasty ass junk. He's one in a lot tho

i dont know where to start with you

i do not know one baseball player that will dip while playing.

and with running at 2.9 flat. thats just it you have to be able to beat the ball before it gets to the base at 2.8.

and yes hitting does use almost every muscle in your body from the waist down. thst is where all your power comes from. and can you name me 5 players that are fat. and have you seen football so many lineman are fat

baseballs is not only atheleticism (ignore my spelling) it is also strategy as a pitcher you need to think ahead of the batter on a 2 strike 3 ball count you have to think what pitch to throw that the batter will not ready for. you have to get in other players heads as a pitcher. and as a fielder when a ball gets hit to you, you have to know exactly where to throw the ball in a split second.

i can think of so much more to argue with you about but it is useless and you asre ignorant

pitch_animate.gif

Haha i play baseball, compared to football soccer hockey etc you really don't need any cardo endurance, just muscular.

Baseball is a sport, but a damn boring sport. Sit there waiting... waiting... waiting... Someone hit the ball!... and they're out. Waiting... Waiting.. Waiting... Yup.

yes, i am a catcher as well, and everything said there is correct. Including knowing about somehting before making me read this whole pointless thread just to stick up for MY LIFESTYLE.

yeah you don't need to be athletic to play CF, because they're all soo big and fat just like any other position. Please name someone fat and out of shape in the majors who doesn't play 1st, Pitcher, or DH?

Im not saying baseball isn't a sport (although I don't think it is), but I don't get why people watch it. It's the most boring shit to watch. The games take like 4 hours, theres almost no action, and 90% of the people just stand around most of the time. I just don't get it...

I play lacrosse, and I can easily say it's 3 times more of a sport than baseball is. Lacrosse takes alot more endurance, more agility, as well as more hand eye coordination. Yep, I said it. Sure, it's hard to hit a ball going 90 mph, but throwing and catching in lacrosse takes precision. You have to put your stick in just the right place to catch the ball, and most of the times it's not where you want it to go.

Also, i'm pretty sure I could hit a 90 mph fastball once out of like 10 times (batting around .3) seeing as i have really good hand eye coordination (from playing lacrosse for 10 years), and am really strong. I really don't see the difficulty....

i love watching baseball. in fact, all through high school it was my goal to be the marketing manager for safeco field so i could spend as much time there as possible. Safeco field is my disney land, the happiest place on earth!

seriously though why do we have to debate baseball vs. lacrosse, play and watch what you like, we don't need to hate on other sports just because we don't like it

you have never played baseball. i guarantee you that you will not even touch a 90mph fastball. any decent pitcher could throw a 90mph fastball then next pitch a 75mph curve and make you practically fall over swinging. lacrosse and baseball completely different

i definitly want to beat up anybody on here that says baseball isnt a sport. ive stated my opinion. fuck you.eat shit and die.

yeah, ok dude. try chasing a gapper running full speed to the outfield fence pick up the ball, pivot, and throw a strike to second simultaneously. and youre telling me that it requires no athletic ability? go die in a well.

I agree, I love basketball and football because in any 1 moment the tables can turn and momentum in basketball is huge. Baseball can be kind off exciting when somebody steals a base or something but its rare.

i'll admit it takes more athletic ability than i thought. I was wrong, maybe it is a sport, but i still think (and this, you wont change my opinion on) that it is pretty damn boring to watch. You have changed my opinion. It is a sport, but it is not the same type of sport as basketball, football, and all the other sports that are in constant action.

you guys are freekin in love with this shit, you get so defensive haha
