Does anybody else think baseball is not a sport?

who else doesnt think baseball is a sport? Heres why it isnt

-alot of the players are fat and out of shape

-alot of the players dip while playing the game (no other sport is that possible- and golf/ping pong arent sports so you cant use those as an example where you could)

-the game is basically hitting a ball (i'll get to that later), running (quite slowly i might add) about 90 feet, catching balls and throwing balls

-half the time somebody gets up to bat they get struck out and sit down untill next inning (real athletic huh?)

-baseball requires the least oxygen absorbtion in your lungs out of any other sport

now i know that hitting a fastball is supposed to be "the hardest thing in sports" or some shit, but you dont need to be athletic to do that so i dont really count it. i know its hard to do, i cant do it, but that doesnt make it a sport.

anyways, i dont think its a sport because, although it requires skill and talent, you dont have to be athletic at all to play (same goes for golf/ping pong)

Running slow? They have to haul ass to 1st before they get tagged out. Also it takes some presicion to catch a ball that just got launched 150mph.

have you seen them "haul ass"? they are not fast. and the catching thing, i agree it takes skill, but absolutley no athletic ability

you can break down any sport like that.

soccer is not a sport. all you do is stand around on a big field, and try to kick some ball in to a net. the net is way bigger than the guy standing in front of it, so it's not hard at all.

I don't play baseball, but saying it's not a sport is just stupid. and it's easier to kick a ball than hit one

except that soccer is running basically 80% of the time. you actually get tierd playing soccer. baseball players never look tierd at all.

and to the person who said i have a lack of intelligence, care to explain or give an opinion instead of just call me a moron?

^haha. I'm sure that stealing second doesn't involve much running. it's okay to be slow. and I'm sure that people don't try to run fast between bases either

you can call out athleticism all you want, and indeed, many are somewhat fat, but many arent. Its a sport of precision, too, as well as strategy. It is not merely standing around.

That's just stupid, sports is also about hand-eye coödination and skills! You could also call kite-surfing, skydiving, surfing no sport, all you have to do is: hang onto a kite and move your legs a bit, jump out a plane and pull a cord, swim-stand up-keep standing... and many more sports who don't look intensive untill you've actually done them.

man you people sure have some strong opinions. i guess you must all have been amazing baseball players, judging by how much you know.

alright i'll give you that, with an exception. all of the fatasses out on the field dont do that, the few athletic people on the team might be able to do it, but thats a fraction of them. I knew i was gonna get bitched out for this but i really dont care. to me, a sport requires athletic ability as well as skill and technique. baseball only has one of those. sprinting 90 feet isnt a sport, unless you can do it with the speed of a track runner (which they cant)

if your read my argument you wouldnt make that joke... skiing takes strength and endurance as well as skill...

you are probably the gayest fag ive ever heard of..if you don't think that baseball is a sport..then you and your "guys" should go have but sex on a big ass bed were i fucked your mom last night bitch

you guys have obviously never seen the sandlot or ever played baseball like that, not the pros, not highscool, not even little league, just a bunch of kids having fun playing baseball. its the shit

being fun doesnt make it a sport though. i never said i dont like it, i just dont consider it a sport

yesterday i had someone tell me that baseball was more of a sport than rugby...i laughed.

first off you really need to learn how to have a discussion (after all newschoolers is a discussion board) without flipping the fuck out and taking sides right away. That said:

i never said it doesnt require skill, i said it doesnt require athletic ability.

how is baseball a lifestyle? hockey players dip, but not during the game. mostly in the locker rooms. i can run 90 feet in a little over 3 seconds.

think about the muscle groups required to hit a ball. you dont use your back, lats, legs (other than standing). thats just not true that you use every muscle group to hit a ball (im saying that you use it and actually strain it, not just using your legs to stand).

old people can be strong, i dont see your point at all. they may not be able to bench 200 pounds but they sure as hell have muscle... they are skilled if they can stand on skis so i dont really see what your getting at.

your saying baseball isnt a sport, your trying to say that the old guys that you see skiing groomers have more muscle than i professional baseball player. you my friend are retarded. it takes considerable are strenth to throw a ball 90mph without dislocating your arm. baseball takes endurance as well, you try flying all over the country and playing 150 games with only one night off every week

how so? you stand up and go down a hill and turn using your.. edges, unless your doing moguls. which tires you out. also you pop off a jump and spin which requires no endurance. your pretty much the dumbest fucking person alive. Oh and i might add that instead of walking back up the hill, you sit on a chair that hauls your ass up. fuckin retard

HAHAHA the only endurance aspect you can find is traveling!! holy shit man, that must take it out of you!

old guys can obviously ski to a certain extent because they can only be so strong.

have you ever watched a game of baseball in your life?!?!?!

stand up right now, pretend to have a bat in your hands, and swing it without using your legs or your back...yeah that was a weak swing...use use your entire body to swing, not just your arms, you fucking sped

skiing uses these things called legs. if you ski down a mountian, they get tierd. try skiing a decent sized mountain all the way down without stopping and tell me your legs dont burn.

IF BASEBALL IS SO GOD DAMN EASY THEN YOU GO OUT AND MAKE MILLIONS DOING IT? NOT SO EASSY IS IT. STOP BEING SO FUCKING IGNORANT

have you ever set foot on an airplane then flown across the country? theres this litte thing called jet lag that tires the fucking shit right out of you, and when you do it every three days, yes it takes alot out of you

it actually says that a sport is of competitive nature, that of baseball. doenst say baseball is a sport, it says baseball is competitive.

i love how you guys get so pissed when somebody has an opinion. alot of you guys preach about being different but then you flip a shit on somebody with a different opinion, and want me banned (steve.)

you can think what you want, your not going to change my opinion and im obviously not going to change yours. im going to dinner so i'll be back later.

i see your icon a is paintball gun

is paintball a sport?

also, you have clearly expressed that you know nothing and should not try to debate this

baseball is a sport, if it takes no endurance why aren't you out there in the major leagues?

don't tell my you're too young either, you wouldn't be able to do it

im sorry i just had to reply to this. TRAVELING IS NOT PART OF THE GAME. being on a baseball team doesnt constitute traveling across the country.

i never said baseball was easy, it does take technique

you really have no clue what you are talking about. not at all. you have no valid points, and you sound like a dumb ass. i would be surprised if you've ever actually held a baseball.

im not sorry, i had to reply to this... of course traveling is part of the game, thats why they have two different uniforms, one for home games and the other for when they have to TRAVEL ACROSS THE COUNTRY to play another game. please do the right thing, never log onto NS ever again in your life

your argument for baseball being a lifestyle is concrete. i cant argue.... try giving one and maybe i'll reply to that.

ya hockey players dip, but not during the game because it makes you not play at your prime. baseball players can dip and play at the same time, which is gross, but greatly decreases all around ability

there are a ton of people who can run 90 feet in 2.9 seconds. oops your out because the ball came in at 2.8. your argument there sucks

fine i guess hitting uses those muscle groups. that doesnt take away fromt he fact that they have tons of flab all over their body, which any great athlete shouldnt have

your are totally correct on your argument about pitching. thats the only athletic (as i see it) part of the game.

are you happy? im leaving for dinner now

everysport u can break down and say how its not. just chill and love and play ur sports and if it is wut u are saying is true then imagine them always watching u do wut u do beuing jelous that they cant do taht and they respect wut u do because how u do it and they cant,
