Do you turn down your tunes to communicate with humans on the lift?

survey,

is it rude to leave your headphones on and ignore people sitting next to you? or are they just random people you wouldn't talk to anyway?

i always talk to people on the lift if it's appropriate, and i almost never listen to music while skiing. but i don't think it's overly rude to just keep listening to your headphones if you are, plenty of people don't say a word the whole ride

I always turn my headphones off as soon as I finish my lap. I get annoyed with my friends when they sit there with them on so they can't hear, but I don't think it's too bad if a random person does it. I like to try to talk to people when I ride up, but headphones on is a clear message that they don't want to.

It depends. I turn it down when i get on the lift so i can still hear if someone asks me something. However, when i get on the gondola i usually just pause it because people always wanna talk there. I Love talking to people on the lift though, so many interesting stories.

I don't listen to music anyway, but most of the time when I'm on the lift with random people I never say more then a few words, just answer a few questions like "where are you from" and "yes, the snow is pretty bad today".

I ski with iCons and they let sound in easily so I keep it on and communicate but if my tunes are too loud I pause it.

I turn it down on the lift so I can hear but still have a little something in the background. If I'm with randoms and no ones talking I'll just turn it up as loud as I would have it on the hill.

i turn it off. then if the people either dont talk,

or worse start screaming into their cell phones, i turn it back up.

i always try to talk to strangers on the chair, i've met some pretty interesting people that way.

thats how you meet new people to ride with!

if im not rockin icons i keep it to one ear only so i can hear conversations

I always talk to people on lifts. Either you meet some cool people or you get some gaper lulz. I hate listening to music when I ski though so that's why I always talk to people

I always try to talk to people but if they want to be left alone i just go on with my business of shooting people from the chair with my poles.

im not a people person unless im riding the lift with some homies then i dont say a word i could careless if they want to talk to me or not

Its fine unless your on a trip with a room and want to get some action! then you gotta talk it up if any babes are out of the kitchen riding the slopes

i always turn off my music for a lift ride with friends, i hate when i try to talk to one of my friends and their just completely oblivious to whats going on because they have their headphones on. but if its just a lift ride with strangers i usually just leave it on, although it is awkward when they try to talk to you anyway and you have no clue what their saying...

I don't listen to music while skiing.

I also have a strict rule of no cell phones or mp3 players turned on while on the downhill in the backcountry. They fuck with some transceivers (the Trekker 2 is very, very touchy around other electronics or magnets - be warned!).

Besides, what's wrong with a little conversation with someone new?

I always pause my music unless I'm on the lift alone. I feel like it's rude not to, plus I don't mind chatting with random people and my friends are fun to talk to. Although if someone else didn't pause theirs that's cool with me, I don't mind at all, I just don't like doing that myself.

I pull my earbuds out as soon as my run is done. If nobody gets on the lift then I throw them back on. Most annoying thing is when friends leave their's on. Like whats the point of even riding with somebody if you cant talk to them ever.

off to talk to peeps. if nothing else brag about how big of a 3 you just threw off that cliff *point* right there to some gapers.

I was on the chair, and saw a runaway snowboard. Yeah, a runaway snowboard, I don't know how that happens but it did. I made a comment and the guy next to me said nothing. It was awkward.

yes. I hate Sitting is silence the ENTIRE trip up the chair, but then again i hate people that feel like there needs to be conversation at all times. So i try to at least say what's up.

Some days, if its cold, i will sit and try to just survive the ride but when it is warm and sunny i will talk and just turn it down to discuss with others

I always talk to people on the lift and never listen to music while skiing, and studys show that earbuds throw off your balance by up to 10%

i usually just pop an earbud out when im in the lift line, then i can hear people and still listen to music. turning it down or off is not an option

I feel like nobody talks on lifts anymore. sometimes ill spark a convo just because sitting in silence the whole way is just weird, but recently I feel like im competing for other people's attention. fuck em. im either next to some douche or middle aged REI prick that pokes fun at my baggy outerwear, tiny poles, goggle strap under my helmet, "awkwardly" mounted skis or colorful ski boots.
with that said, turn the music all the way the fuck up. unless you're with friends, in that case turn your shit off. I hate trying to talk to my friends and they're screaming or constantly saying what.

I don't usually ski with music, but I will pause it when I get ont he lift with other people. I do a lot of midweek skiing at a mountain that isn't very busy, so I'm on the lift often by myself and it's nice to have music then.
