Do you think this is reasonable?

I really need your opinion on whether or not I should challenge the teacher on this one.

So over the week, my teacher assigned this chart we had to fill out on a book. We had to pick a quote and explain what it meant, which character said it, etc. So since I was typing it, I just copied the lines from the online version of the book. It wasn't plagiarizing, I was going to copy it down anyways so I might have well just pasted it to save time. I did all of my own explanations and didn't Google what the quote meant or anything. So NS, does the teacher have the right to give me a complete 0 on this assignment? (Keep in mind this changes my grade from a B+ to a C-).

Thank you

so... you just took the direct quotes from the book so you didn't have to write them out? am I understanding correctly? but you didn't look up analysis or anything? you just copied the quote

Yes, defiantly challenge her on that. Show her on a computer or phone exactly what you did, and it may change her mind. Just because she's in charge, doesn't mean she has to be a dick.

according to you you were supposed to explain what it meant, so did you plagiarize the explanations from the book or just the quotes? if you just did the quotes then it sounds like you didnt explain them so you deserve a 0, and if you plagiarized the explanations you deserve a 0, so yeah you do

"that" should be "who" as you are referring to a person, not an object. "layed" should be "laid." You are far dumber than the teacher in question.

You are my least favorite member. Everything you ever say is negative, and you always sound like your life is the most miserable life on the planet. Smoke some weed and chill out old man

If you cited correctly then there should be no problem, but if you took it word for word its then the teacher is in the right...

If you changed the sentences and put in words of your own then it's perfectly okay to do that. just look in a thesaurus next time, it helps a lot for papers.

inb4 it turns out OP copied and pasted the entire thing including the URL from whatever site he got it from and turned it in like that

Is this college or High school?

If its HS, quit bitchin. Its high school, its a fucking joke. Get your panties out of a bunch and grow a set. It has absolutely no influence on the rest of your life. Its childish and stupid, just deal with it and get outta there asap.

If its college, Fuck yeah, challenge that bitch

He's quoting a book, there's no way he should put it in his own words. He just copied it from an online book, instead of typing it out himself, OP there's absolutely nothing wrong with what you did

And OP, how would they know you pasted them, versus typing them out, if you're not smart enough to change the text, you deserve a 0. But if you did, there's no situation where you would even be able to "challenge" her

I would actually say that hs matters more, bcuz thats how you get into a good college. Once you get into a good college, you can relax, and live life, do drugs etc. just make sure you graduate. Thats all you really got to worry about

If you respectfully ask the teacher why she/he gave you the grade she/he gave then i don't think she/he would mind negotiating with you and working out a solution. Simple as that.

Exactly. Don't approach her with the "I'm a bad ass senior" attitude and you will be golden. Most teachers are great people

OK, to clear it up I copied the QUOTES DIRECTLY I did all the analysis by itself. She said "I can clearly see you copied and pasted these". Yeah no shit I know that Im not hiding anything and she still said that I get no credit. She even went as far as to go and find the websites that I used to get the quotes, which werent even the ones I used. So exchanging point after point back and forth we came to the conclusion that if I redo it completely I get half credit, which is still ridiculous.

So in short:

>Copied quotes from online sources

>made my OWN analisys, NOT plagerized

(Sorry for post-bombing)

Also, should I just email her? That way I can lay out my case and send it to her. She told me in person and I tried to make my point then but she wasn't budging.

you need to get your parents involved if that is the case. There are some teachers who just refuse to listen to students, but everything changes if your parents get involved.

Presuming you are in highschool, dont bring in your parents if you are in college.

this happend to me, luckly it was on a review.. but its utter bullshit. I think it "legally" the teacher is correct, but that shit should be relooked at.

I really don't want it to get that heated. Since my dad is a lawyer and my mom would most likely not be involved, arguments with teachers usually get pretty intense.

For example I was running for president last year and the school tore down my posters because they were racist,

(said poster) (I know, subpar poster but everyone liked it and it got me votes)

and it got to the point of screaming over the line when they were on the phone, so I would rather avoid that again

That's bullshit if you copied the same quotes which you would have written down anyway. Don't you need quotes? The teacher's flat out retarded if that's the case.

Or, you did plagiarize more that just the quotes. We'll never know...

Were the quotes more than 4 lines? Because then it would be obvious if you did not format it correctly.

Usually you can't do any research when explaining what you think a character meant by something... So having an online source makes no sense if you have the book in hand. I can see why she assumes you may have used the internet for more than copying the quote, you didn't need the Internet for the paper to begin with...

I think you making this thread is unreasonable. I think you need some god damn confidence in your life and stand up for what you know is obviously unjust. Fuckin' 9 year olds.

Well as long as you cited you should be good. How did she even know you copied and pasted if you would've had to copy the quote from the book anyway?

In my experience some teachers just won't listen to students though, it's stupid but getting your parents involved is usually the best way to handle this stuff in highschool

did you use quotation mark and wrote the autors name and page number beside the quote?

did you put the quote in "" and did you cite it in the paper ex:

OP clearly shows he is a dumbass and plagiarized, "I copied the QUOTES DIRECTLY" (Masshol3, 2014)

Lol without the paper and original work you did nothing/nothing you say is credible and/or relevant. Please post what you wrote/welcome to the real world/college.

Honestly I would be pissed.. especially if it was just a quote.
