Do you think constantly listening to talk radio/podcasts is good or bad?

I almost spend every moment I'm not doing something, (talking to someone, skiing, in class, studying, etc) listening to podcasts (basically like talk radio) and I sometimes wonder if thats changing my thought process, constantly having people talking in my ear, not really sitting/walking around with just my own thoughts, I guess. Or is it making me smarter/funnier constantly listening to smart and funny people?Thoughts? I was thinking about this today and since its a relatively new technology there's no real studies on whether listening is making you smarter or just letting your brain turn off and listen to interesting people talk..

Well...mostly ones with comedians...I try and mix it up with Radio Lab and more philosophical ones too. Marc Maron's is a favorite.

I listen to syndicated world news stations when I go to sleep. These include reports from sources like BBC, AP, NPR, and a slew of other acronyms. Basically, a bunch of lower-biased international news stations. It's like mainlining news with as little political bullshit as possible, and I learn a lot of good stuff. My only problem is that I need the radio/television to sleep at this point, and I was a blacked-out, quiet room sleeper for my whole life. Between rap/hiphop in the car, bar, and parties, news in the morning/night, and some talk radio during the day, I find myself thinking crazy shit when there isn't something playing in my ears.

You're fine. It actually might make you more intelligent. Just don't start listening to extremely political podcasts.

as long as you're still being social and not withdrawing to much I can't see any possible problems with that

not at all, im a huge fan of the Jay and Dan Podcast. they were on sportscentre up north but made the move stateside over the summer. love the mixture of humor and sports. we need more of it.

I'm a big deathsquad fan.. The podcast for the most part get me thinking more than I ever did before. It wasn't all JRE but around the time i started listening to that I went on to lose 65lbs. That mixed with Duncan Trussell's philosophy talks I feel like an overall better person. Much more open minded for sure..
