Do you need brakes on your bindings?

Im looking into buying a ski without brakes on the bindings that are included and also has taken a core shot but was filled with an extruter? Should I still be able to use them and be fine?

Ski falls off, hits another skier and causes a serious injury You are at fault and could be taken to court, I am also pretty sure its the rules to have either brakes or have a leash.

Pretty much EVERY mountain in the US requires a restraining device on your equipment (brakes, leashes, something like that). Most just won't let you up the lift, some will actually call the police and charge you with reckless endangerment (this is EXTREMELY rare, and is usually because the customer is being a dick when asked to leave because they don't have brakes...but it can be done).

Not to mention, for most bindings, the heel of your boot rests on the brake of the binding, without the brake you'll find yourself pre-releasing much more and you'll experience heel wiggle with the platform the brakes give you.

most people don't have that urge....it's either cause they don't fit the ski, or more commonly because they break off.

Skiing without a brake is very disrespectful to the others on the hill, and some will even threaten to kick your ass for it..

I fucking hate careless people!

My current skis have brakes but a ski i am looking at doesnt have brakes atm on the bindings and it now looks like I will be purchasing brakes for them if i buy them. Im sorry if I offended anyone. No harm was intended. I am all for safety in the park and on the mountain. Thanks for the help!

it will pick up alot of speed and could really hurt somebody, or you could lose it in the woods

If you really don't want brakes/your ski doesnt have brakes/your skis are too wide for the majority of brake options, just get a leash... such a simple device that there really isn't much that can go wrong (except for skis flying around and hitting you in the face). But honestly, brakes make it much easier to do simple things like get your skis back on yo feets... I wouldn't want to have skis without them
