well, if you do, you are in luck.. Directly from the anointed messiah's website comes Obama's plan for those of us who are in school. That's right.....MANDATORY community service. 100 hours a year for college students, 50 hours a year for highschool and middle school students. Just so we are clear on this, we aren't volunteering for this stuff anymore, this is MANDATORY work.... Hello, Obama youth.. This is a violation of our rights against "involuntary servitude." I won't be told that I HAVE to do anything. The supreme court better take this one..

I support Obama but I don't like this policy. It's not that bad though, at least it's helping people.
 
What's hes going to do? put us in jail for not doing bullshit? If this does happen, it won't for years.
 
I would totally be down with a mandatory 5 hours a year per citizen. the world would be a much better place. I've done a fair amount of volunteering and community service, and I think you have no right to complain unless you do some.
 
The good thing about community service is that it is volunteer work. When you force people to do it, you essentially enslave them
 
The same thing in my high school and I live in NYC. But I go to a private school so I guess they can do that.

That's not true. In some provinces you need 40 hours of work experience or volunteer hours to graduate (BC, Ontario). And honestly, who hasn't worked for 40 hours in High School? But most provinces don't need that crap.
 
I only have to do 10 hours of communtity service to graduate highschool. once again proving how lazy americans are. we need shit like this so we don't all go to hell.
 
Ok lets get this right. I is Not Mandatory. If you Choose to do the comunity service you will get 4000 dollars a year for college. I dont think thats a bad idea at all.
 
i think the plan was service for your country (army, job corps or whatever, etc) in exchange for money for college? unless youre talking about something else. and even if we were required to do some community service, thatd be a good thing. stop being such a pussy

Oh please, you are even more full of it than normal. That's not charity, that's a government requirement. It's the same concept as a draft, just for service in the community. I do community service every week and I would pissed off if someone told me that I was no longer doing it for myself to help others, but because it was the law.

On that note, this is both ridiculous and impractical, so I hope this goes no further than it has here on paper.

so wait, what you're saying is that by making it mandatory, it is no longer going to be about helping people?

seriously, it's still going to be just as helpful, if not more so because now people will have to get off their lazy asses and do something for the community, rather than working just to buy their next pack of twinkies.

I think its a great idea. People need to help each other out more. Think about how much could be done if every high school student volunteered 50 hours a year. I'm down.
 
if you already do community service for the "right" reasons, wouldnt you think requiring others to do it was a good idea? and how it is impractical? helping others? impractical?
 
a vote for barack obama is a vote for socialism, that and skyrocketing taxes to fund bullshit universal education and health care.
 
What you are saying is that the guy who bags groceries in order to make money necessary to his continued life in society and the guy who "volunteers" to bag groceries to keep himself out of the laws path are two different situations. It's no longer volunteering if you HAVE to do it. It's not like I'm doing community service when I obey the speed limit or decide not to go out and kill people...

well it's no longer volunteering if you HAVE to do it, but it's still just as useful to the community, if not more so because there are a lot of people who don't give a shit about others and wouldn't have volunteered anyways.

although i doubt this is the case, he's probably just going to give incentive for people to volunteer, not make community service a mandatory requirement. i could be wrong, but if i am, i still don't think it's a bad thing, and i'm sure there would be expemptions for people who can't make the time, or are physically unfit to do community service. things like this don't happen without laying down some obvious exemptions.
 
tell me how forced community service and universal education and healthcare are not steps forward towards socialism? Also, with the Fairness Doctrine that obama is proposing (which will ultimately shut down conservative radio, MEDIA CONTROL) you can't ignore the shift. How do you expect to pay for everyone to go to college, or everyone to recieve equal health care? Taxing the wealthy, yea thats really fair. lets destroy the people who actually work in this country to benefit those people who are not dedicated enough to get jobs. Who will work in the country when everyone is "getting an education." Think about it, and don't be so fucking smitten with such an empty suit.

you are missing the point. Who will be around to do the crappy jobs that run this country? Who will work McDonalds? Who will be toll booth workers? People with educations will always shoot for higher jobs. Where will the part time workers go? Not everyone can be doctors, lawyers, and other careers that require schooling.
