I agree that sadaam was a bad guy, and terrorism isn't right, but 3,653 soldier deaths and 4 years later; we havn't made much progress.

I really think the whole system is fucked up. The military provides great incentive to enlist. This looks great to the poor guys that dont really have any other options besides dealing on street corners, and working for $6 an hour. I mean considering we're on a ski website that consists of probably around 70% upper-middle class white kids, this probably doesn't make much sense.

Why should they put their life on the line more than you or me? ...because they're poor, and don't have many other options? Between you and your parents, you can probably get together enough cash and go to college with minimal loans. Come out get a decent paying job, or continue and go to grad school or professional school, and make a ton of money when you get out.

You and I have no reason to put out life on the line and enlist in the military. If you support what is going on over there, then sign your ass up, and trade places with someone who doesn't want to be there.

To anyone saying it's 'lame' or that Bush isn't a bad president... wake the fuck up to what is going on. Right now there are half a dozen or so fairly major investigations going on for various things surrounding questionable (illegal) things the Bush admin has done. That's just looking at the actual legal actions being taken against them right now. if you want to get into the stuff that they've done that's wrong and hurt our country, it would take up hundreds of pages. It's just plain sad to see how god damn apathetic people are in this country. It's the sole reason the Bush Admin has been able to lead us into what history will no doubt look back on as one of the countries darkest periods in history. I think people are going to be surprised (and some very ashamed to have let things happen without speaking out against it) when a lot of the bullshit gets sifted through and the truth about some things that have happened comes out (I'm not talking about 9/11 being an inside job, that's a croc of shit).

The civil war - when the country so divided that half of it decided that it would form its own country because they were too racist to see their slaves as human beings - in which 360,000 Americans died was a dark period in American history. If you think Bush is widely hated, take a good look at Lincoln's popularity at the time. Would you say that Lincoln was a bad president?

What do you suppose would happen if the US had done nothing with its military post 9/11? The terrorists would have stopped, right? Action had to be taken. The US went to war in Afghanistan to battle terrorism and then the US went to war in Iraq to battle terrorism. But you're right, that was a bad call.

(I know you didn't even mention this, but...)As for ousting Saddam Hussein as a dictator in Iraq: the man was killing thousands and thousands of his own people. Similarly, Hitler was killing a bunch of his own people in WWII. The US finally got into the war when they were attacked by Japan. FDR declared war on not only Japan but also Germany. But did the Nazis directly do anything to the US? Not so much. Did they pose a threat? Eventually, almost certainly. So was FDR wrong to make war with Germany? And is WWII looked upon now as one of the darkest periods in the country's history? You tell me.

As for comparing Hitler to Saddam... So killing 10 million is the same as 10 thousand? Although WWII was pretty much all of Hitlers fault so lets jack that number up to at least 50 million. dude im pretty sure an apology is order
 
I didn't say that Bush and Lincoln were similar. I said that Lincoln was more hated at the time of his presidency and I said that the civil war was a darker part of this country's history than this will turn out to be. Of course only time will tell on that one.
 
we can debate the ethics of this war for days, but everything you just typed is invalidated by the FACT that this administration has lied to substantiate a seemingly "just" war.

I think all the historical points have been made in this argument, so i'll give some personal reasons why i'm looking forward to the day that bush is out of office:

1. He is an embarrassment to this country. A president should be someone we are proud to stand behind. Like it or not, the president is often viewed as the "poster child" (for lack of a better word) for a nation, and he makes me ashamed.

2. He has abused his power far too much. Now i know some asshole is gonna say, "well nixon and clinton did too, blah blah". thing is that bush is using his personal opinions to veto bills left and right, not trying to do what's best for the country.

3. The dissolution of the separation of church and state. this kind of relates to the last point. using religious views to try and ban abortion, among other things, because it is "immoral". like you have the slightest fucking clue what is moral and immoral.

that's all i have the energy for right now. stay tuned...
 
All right, some comparisons were a bit extreme, although relevent to my point.

1. I think that any president with whom the entire world (exaggerating, of course) does not agree will be looked upon as the "poster child" for the nation. But in all reality, he is not the president of the world, he is the president of the United States. If the entire world voted, then I'm sure that he never would have been elected in the first place. His job is not to gain the support of the world, it's to run the country.

2. Well Nixon and Clinton did too. Just kidding. Well they did, but that's not my argument here. Ahh, the veto of bills. I've got news for you. That's what happens when the Congress majority and the president are not from the same party. It's personal opinions and morals that got him to the White house and were the premise of his candidacy.

3. If he is "immoral" on some issues does that mean that he should throw out any remaining morals that he has?

Look, I don't agree with Bush on everything. I don't think that he's the best president that our nation has ever had. But I certainly don't think he's the worst.
 
That is by far one of the worst comparison's to the current situation I have ever heard. You have completely insulted the United States of America with your ignorance. The Bush Administration has rejustified Iraq multiple times. First it was to find weapons of mass destruction... nothing significant found. Then it was to find all of the terrorists saddam was harboring... we actually increased the amount of terrorists residing in Iraq with our occupation. And now we were there to free all of these people. Third times the charm I guess.

#1 Lincoln wasn't racist. He actually wanted to stop racism.

#2 Let's be real here... you really think george bush wanted to invade Iraq to free a bunch of non-christian brown people? ... ...out of the vast goodness of his heart.

#3 I'm not going to beat around the bush here... i think georgey boy is racist just like the majority of his voting base.

And if thats the case... they why are we not invading Darfur?

400,000 people have been slaughtered. And more than 2 million have fled the country as refugees to nearby Sudan and Chad. Those people need freed too. I hear nothing about those people though in the news. The impact of genocide is much greater there than Iraq.

We're all about freedom here right? Or are there other things at play here?
 
Ok, lets start this out. At first, we had REASONABLE SUSPISCION that they had WoMDs, which I agree wasn't enough to go to war for. But what are we supposed to do, after we have invaded their country splitting them apart more then ever, taken out their major leaders and then LEAVE? That is ludicrous. If we left when we didn't find WoMD's #1 Their country would topple over after the state we put it in. We definantly needed to reinstate a new gov't (Democracy, imagine that.. Reminds me of Vietnam in attempts to put Democracy there instead of Communism) and train a force so they can deal with their own problems. #2 How would we look if we just left? Like cowards, to everybody. Yeah, we put Iraq is such distress and then leave it for them to solve? Uhh.. no. Now, I'd like to address you calling Bush racist which is completely moronic, there is no way he would be racist. And a majority of his voting base? You're truly a dumbass. Yes, it's no lie minoritys are mostly Democrats for the reason that Republicans are conservative and they want to proove minority relations in the U.S. Calling the majority of his voting base racist is flat out ignorant. Now, about Darfur. You know why we havent went there? Imagine if we came there and tried to resolve that kind of crisis, in 06 the UN sent 17,000 soldiers there and the sudanese said that they felt like they were being invaded and violence actually increased. If ANYTHING the UN needs to organize a massive peacekeeping force in that area to stop the violence, not the U.S. The U.S. is so low on troops they have doubled benefits you get from joining the armed services. We really don't have any more troops available to send over that kind of a force to Darfur and I guarentee you if Bush called for a draft there would be hell on the streets I don't even want to think about that.

You have to understand the world isn't a simple 'send your army to resolve others conflicts like that' things it's soooo complicated on so many levels and I agree Iraq was truly a waste of american soldiers lives and half a trillion dollars but we're there we might as well leave by doing something constructive.

This is more or less the worst political post I've seen here in a long time. A year or two ago I would expect it, but not these days.

Comparing saddam and iraq to hitler and nazi germany is a good way of showing that you are completely out of touch with reality, and probably shouldn't be discussing political issues. Seriously.
