Do you have a laptop?

Briefly, I'm looking at buying a laptop but I'm hesitant...I don't know if I'll regret it or not? 900$ seems like a big coin to dish out.

I'm looking for people who have bought one with their own money, and whether they regret their purchase or not.

I should be able to decide on my own.. but I really can't. I've had a website open, with all my information filled out for over an hour now and I can't commit to the purchase.

i do not regret my purchase.

make sure you get the warranty, that bad boy bailed me out of having to buy a new laptop, no questions asked. (i spilt water on it and some of the keys stopped working, just don't tell them it was your fault, let it dry out, and you're fine)

I 100% do not regret it. I don't understand whether your hesitant to spend $900 or because you are debating between a desktop computer and a laptop. If it's the latter if you don't like the laptop all is not lost, you can buy a laptop stand for like 20 bucks and you can find an old cheap keyboard to plug in and voila you have a desktop!

It took me a long ass time to save up for my laptop and now i can barely understand how I was able to work without it. I am on it everyday, considerably more than I ever was on my desktop and love how I can write my papers etc wherever and whenever I want. Since I got my laptop my marks have improved, I am better looking and have lots more sex. Do it

I have no regrets what so ever. I just use mine so much, and yeah it is nice to be able to just take out your lap top if you have some free time between a couple of classes and you don't want to have to move anywhere. You can get alot more work done, the keyboards are no longer as small as they used to be and are even approaching full size in some cases.

wow i never thought id find another person with an acer. mine is ok, its got a really big screen and i can play pretty much any game i was on it. it was cheap too.

thats not the biggest disadvantage of a laptop, its the fact that you can't upgrade them, and in 4 years its going to be completely outdated and you'll be buying a brand new one.

i've built my desktops, i never thought i would buy a laptop because they just aren't as fast/cost efficient as a desktop, but i got one for college and i love it, definitely worth it.

i love my laptop. i can take it home with me if i go home for weekends/christmas without any hassle, which is nice, cause my parents' desktop really sucks. it's also really nice for when i move (a couple of times a year). and yeah, i can take it to class which is nice. also, i have a dj program on it, and i took my laptop into one of my residence's lounges where there was a dance and i dj'd... couldn't have done that with a desktop. plus it takes up so little space compared to a desktop.

get an HP, they have 2 audio outputs (at least, all the one's i've seen do), so you can plug a ton of speakers into your computer.

laptop >>>>>> desktop. for sure.

I do not regret it at all. My laptop is so sick. I use it all the time and woner why I haven't had one my entire life.  But I also spent considerably more on my than you are going to on yours. With that said I still don't think you will regret it.

Same thing happens with a desktop, even if you completely customize it. If you take your old desktop from four years ago, to have it compare to whats on the market now a days you're still lookin at a new motherboard, more ram, upgraded video card, new processor...so on and so forth.

The decision between a desktop and a laptop comes down to mobility. Are you going to be using a computer in class, taking notes? Possibly in the library? At home and at work? If you will be using it in many different places, then a laptop is great for you.

On the other hand, if you don't need it outside of your house/dorm then a desktop is probably a better option. Much much much better system specs for the same price as a laptop, or you can get equivalent specs as a laptop and spend half the price.

You're paying for mobility with a laptop. That's what you need to decide, whether you will want/need the mobility.

I love it.. never thought I'd buy a laptop but I'm so glad I did. Using a computer becomes so much easier / more versatile. You can watch movies in bed get wireless and surf the net anywhere in your house. take it with you when you go on holiday, take it to uni so you dont have to use the shitty germ riddled computers there.

I have an acer too, never had any trouble with it

i went on a plan with mine

like i pay by the month for four years

i really went over the top with it

but omg i do not regret it

its like my child

as long as you have the money and its not gonna be a problem later

id buy it

Jea then, I just built up a Dell Insprion 1521, 2 gigs of ram, 120 gig hd, dual core 1.8ghz processor, built in bluetooth, camera, Ms office package, five year warranty, jet black.

Should be here in a week.

good choice on the warranty........ ive had mine for 6 months and the battery sucks ass.... but ive got a warranty so i can get a new one when ever i want

(i just have to prove that the battery has lost its power)

I didn't pay for all of it myself but I did pay for part of it. I can't imagine using a desktop. I'm pretty used to living my life with a computer always within arms reach so a laptop is totally necessary. I've been using this laptop for almost 3 years and while its certainly obsolete its definitely fast enough to everything I need.

I spent over 2 g's of my own money on my powerbook g4. 4 years later and going strong! laptops bitches!

i'm in college and i've never owned a laptop, i'm fine with my desktop. imo you don't really need one but it's up to you

although my parents got me it, ill still post.

got a macbook a couple weeks ago and i love it. sooo nice, mobile, light everything you could expect and more. i would highly recommend getting that laptop...

i love my laptop. it took me half a year to save up for it. Its great because i can take it up to my lodge to put my footy on it while up there and start editing.

I have a 2 year old Dell latitude D610. It is slowly becoming a piece of crap. The battery life blows now, and it slighty over heats (the fan is going full tilt a lot of the time). I have the crazy 3 year replacement guarantee warranty thing, so maybe I can get this thing fixed, but in the future, I'm definitely buying a Mac.

Something inside of me dies everytime I see someone else buy a Dell. They used to be alright, but over the past 5-6 years they have slowly been declining in quality and longevity. I hope it works well for you, I've heard alot of horror stories about Dell's. I think their laptops are slightly better than their desktops though.

For anyone else looking to buy a laptop. Mac's are good as are Toshiba laptops, you just have to be willing to pay a little bit more for them. Lenova (formally IBM) ThinkPad's are pretty good, but more directed towards business. Those are probably the only brands i would consider buying though.

i have a macbook. $1500 but so worth it. it can do anything. want to record music, garageband; edit movies, imovie, pictures, iphoto, your own website, iweb. it has it all. and i hear leopards the best ever for mac.

Are you sure it applies to their laptops as well? My buddy tells me that Dell's desktops are horendous but their laptops are solid for the price. Honestly, I don't feel like spending any more cash than I already am...

And plus, I'll have the warranty, so I'll be covered pretty good I'd hope?

$965.08 .

My Visa bill is going to be fucking insane...I bought an Itouch last week, Laptop this week, Gas, Lots of food, and I still have to buy gifts.

At least I have snow...

I regret my purchase because it's big and heavy and a piece of crap! but that doesn't matter because I am saving for another one and I can use this for downloads or something.

but I like it because it's better than a pen and paper for taking notes in class, and you can take it anywhere and go on NS anywhere.

From what I've seen personally, their laptops are better than their Desktops. I haven't had a lot of personal experience with them. Some friends of mine have them and they appear to be pretty solid. With the laptop you should be safe hopefully.

Warranties are tricky. Sometimes they are good, other times they really don't help you at all with anything. I have no idea about Dell's. You'd have to read through it and see exactly what it covers.

word dude, dell desktops, suck serious dick. i hate mine sooo much. my cousin, is seriously soooo amazingly good with computers he worked for some company where he woulda been making over 200k after 2 years, but couldn't make it to work on time. i know he is an idiot. anyways im not trying to claim just setting up that he said their laptops are usually pretty solid and hold up decently, compared to their horrendous desktops. so you should be good, plus the warranty. yeah, you should be fine.

please don't ever get a Dell. i have one and i fucking loathe it.

i used to be all anti-apple before i got my Dell and now i would do anything to have an Apple. as soon as this thing dies i'm converting.

I've got a Dell and an HP, don't regret the purchase at all but I like my desktops better, way better. If its for school or you need to transport it I say go for it, but if you know its going to stay in your house then get a desktop. Still, Laptops are baller

I have a Fujitsu and I love it. Totally worth the money and if you are in school, there is no substitute for a laptop.
