Do you guys wear any pads or guards?

i wear some impact type shorts for when my hips are ALREADY bruised up. otherwise you take it and try to learn to not fall on them

coolness always supersedes safety, doesn't everyone know that? But seriously, mouth guard and pads are a way over board. Just man up and take the fall, you want some wrist guards too?

helmet and back protector all the time, impact shorts on rail days. Anyone who says wearing any of that is gay can piss off. My mate broke his back this winter just landing oddly coming of a rail and i've nearly cracked my pelvis resulting in 4 days on crutches barely able to walk. If there was anything that stopped you from ruining your shoulders i would wear them too, torn ligaments with surgery in my left shoulder last year, broken collarbone with surgery and damaged ligaments in my right shoulder this year. Wearing pads sucks...hospital and not skiing for 6 months sucks more.

mouth guards in the park are pretty rediculous, also rediculous on most people out of the park, but i think they're pretty necessary if you're coming off of a concussion

I wear wrist guards because i've had too many breaks/sprains that have ruined my day.

And i usually wear Demon ass and hip pads for urban or rails, not so much for jumps and shit.

Aside from a helmet and hip pads (for park) every other pad is only neccessary if you have had a problem in the past.

Helmet: everyone should wear one no matter what

Hip Pads (Impact shorts): I wear these everyday in the park or even in my backyard. No one likes a bruised ass/hip on a rail and they help a little if you land on your side while jumping. They fit under ski pants incognito. These give me so much more confidence on rails.

Thumb Splints: I wear these everytime I go skiing. Without these I have injured my thumb everyday. I have never hurt my thumb wearing these. I have tried everything under the sun and these are the only things that stop skiers thumb.

Shin split pads: I might get those booster straps next year or invest in a quality boot

Something to protect my balls: I know a cup won't work, but as soon as I find a product that will protect that area I will buy it

Mouthguard: If you huck big cliffs, get lots of concussion, etc. than wear it, but for your average park skier it is unneccessary

Back Protecter: unless your hucking huge cliffs or skiing trees or have had back problems than you don't need it

For the whole season I just wore a helmet until near the end I took a nasty spill on an urban so I wore padded under armor for my hips. Next day I ended up bashing my shins realll bad (that hurts)

Riding with a jock a good idea? Cuz it's either your balls or if you are wearing one, the tendons beside you balls would rip.

as far as protecting your balls, the best advice I got from another forum was these rubber shorts that are made for rowing, don't know the name tho

dude a back protector should be 2nd to a helmet. Imagine if simon had been wearing a protector when he overshot that jump I think he would have recovered much quicker...a broken back is much worse than a bruised hip.

i think its the same. a back protector is really the next thing after the helmet. i mean, at least for rail purposes, if you wind up or whatever, these things will help. on kickers i think theyre really useful if you land on your back, even though theres most times not much pressure going on (steep landings).

and for pow riding i think its really important. i somehow fear snowcovered rocks when crashing or landing cliffs. once i lost balance on slow turn due to changing snow conditions, and fell head first on my back. as i stood up, i felt a "sharp" edge of a rock just 5 inches away from where my head landed. i wasnt wearing a helmet and a back protector and im pretty sure that this rock wouldve ripped my head off or broke my spine.

back protector and helmet every day

I've wedged on a 50ish switch late february this year, basically sailing through the air back forward all the way to my head...

result was a broken neck (C2 vortex) and a 3 month recovery (save god I wasn't paralyzed...)

still the flight to the hospital and the helmet were cheaper than what a funeral would have cost my family

but why not use one and maybe prevent a concussion in the first place?

Looks like next year I'll be buying some crash pads. They seem like a really good idea. pads= confidence and confidenceis huge in skiing. And I want something for my knees, because this season I rocked my knee off a rail upright and it bothered me for over a month and now my knee is indented.

i wear padded shorts too, skeletools. it still hurts when you fall, but you don't pay for it with a bruised hip for the next month like you could without them. just don't let anybody else know you're wearing them because they'll think you're a sally...which makes sense i guess

i put my skis away for the season and dont feel like going and getting them. i started the one pole rage.

O Snap! E-Call out? I can't believe how many people wear anything more than a helmet. I can understand if you've previously been injured, or your dropping cliffs like 40+ feet or charging some gnarly as line having something like a back protector. This is ridiculous, and to the kid who said skiing takes harder hits than hockey? What the fuck, are you kidding me? Last time I checked the top pros wear......let me see.......a......helmet, and thats it. Not to mention the fact they're throwing stuff 50x's bigger than 95% of the people on this site. Stop being such pussy's and take a fall

.

And as far as shins go, here are my suggestions:

a) blow your knees, and when you get surgery you will probably loose feeling in a couple of the nerves in your shin

b) get boots that fit better

c) stop landing in the back seat

For the record:

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH WEARING PROTECTION.

A lot of people hating on this thread because you wear impact shorts or a back protector, don't listen to that.

I wear forcefield impact shorts and back protector with a pro-tec helmet.

The back protector I don't wear all the time as it's a bit uncomfortable but if I knew i was going big or something like that I would make sure I had it on, it doesn't restrict you at all and could save your life.

You'll be the one laughing when you stack a massive back flip and ski away no problems (speaking from experience!).

I think it's bad that you don't often see the pro's wearing protection, it doesn't set a very good example.

It also gives you confidence so there is (obviously) no harm in giving it a go.

Dainese also do good protective gear, personally I prefer forcefield but it's all about preference.

right, plain and simple right

ok, we all can decide whether we use protection or not. but i dont wanna wake up in a few years in a hospital, paralyzed or whatever, just because i thought a back protector is too restricting (WHAT IS NOT TRUE, AFTER TWO DAYS YOU DONT FEEL THEM ANYMORE).

and i dont want my friends and family to stand beside my grave within the next 20 years, just because i thought a helmet is uncool or not comfy (SAME HERE, YOU DONT MIND WEARING A HELMET AFTER A FEW DAYS).

maybe i think this way because i am 19, an age that is waaay over the average on this site (at least regarding the level of maturity in the posts). so if youre 12-17 and you dont wear protection because you think you know the consequences, youre really cool and you think youre old enough to decide, believe me, YOURE NOT.

you can stop wearing protection when youre 19, but believe me, YOU WONT.

CAPS are the new bold i guess...

Definitely a helmet, a lot of parents have paid tons for braces and dental care, so a mouth guard could be useful. I had a bad back last year, so I used a back brace/pad when i was on big jumps sometimes....

Cheers 1080 (if that is your real name).

For those of you who haven't worn impact shorts, you 100% do not notice them. And neither does anyone else. I skied two weeks with some mates and they only noticed I was wearing impacts when they de-bagged me!

I did smack on a couple of rails and I got up having not been in any pain at all (other than my pride!).

The noob who said it would hurt more if you were wearing them clearly is made of retard juice.

Anyway, you don't have to wear protection if you don't want to, it's your choice, but I am going to because I want to be skiing way into my 70's like my grandparents who still do charge the back country, and I am 21, been skiing since I was 5 years old, and have never injured myself.

Before you haters go on about me not going big enough or being a pussy, I do go big - but it's hardly the point is it?

Probably going to end up breaking myself badly now, but I think I have made my point!

right now im sitting here with a bruised tailbone, so im considering getting some padded shorts for next year, and i had a few switch knuckle crashes last hear where my knee jammed into my teeth that really made me want to have a mouthgaurd. i would feel like a faggot putting in a mouthgaurd to go ski though

i wear a lid and crash pads.

However what kind of back pads does everyone wear. or is there only one kind. I might want to buy one as long as if its not one of those big and burley one the BC gods wear.
