Do You Buy New Gear Each Year?

Why?

a) My gear is wrecked to shit and I need to upgrade.

b) I want to look cool.

c) I just have way too much money to spend.

nope, because of lack of money, and the fact that it would be a waste of money.

i just upgrade gradually. this year is boots and pants, but it's not like i go out an buy a whole new setup every year.

d) you think you are done growing but then.......grow even more.

Being a chigger and all...I don't understand why i did not stop growing a few years ago. Once i know im dont tho i'll probably get what i like and then stick with it for a while.

I upgrade every 2 seasons or so, depending on the condition of my stuff. This year happened to be a killer, new everything brought me down about $800 :(.

no because most of my stuff usually lasts me at least two seasons. this year happened to be a season where i need new stuff cus all my old stuff was beat so i got new goggles, jacket, and gloves. i also got new beater skis this year so i dont fuck up my nice skis in the park.

it seems like everyone is allways bitching about the kids that get new shit every year, but alot of kids (like me) ski hard well over a hundred days every season, thrash the shit out of our gear then work our asses off all summer so we can afford steezey new gear every year. i usually go through a pair of skis or two a season and usually get a new outfit every year, and then other stuff as i need it. just my 2 cents.

^^^yes.

or we're little and think it's cool to have huuuge boots like our brother, and then we hurt our ankle skiing switch because the heel pocket is fat by 6 inches.

sooo new booties.

those shouldn't neccessarily be every year though. a little excessive.

everything else is legit, too. bindings are also like boots.

unless you get markers, and break them 3 times during the season.

i've been doing a pair of skis a year, and a new suit like every 1.5 years. it sucks because for the last half a year i was riding on beat ass skis with no edges. im just happy for proforms right now......

well most of my stuff is on a 2-3 yr timeline before it needs to be replaced. My helmet is on its 3rd year and i think i'll prolly need a new one this season since its been bashed a couple of times. My pants are on their second season and doing fine, same with the jackets. skis in 3rd and other pair 2nd yr. boots 3rd yr. Its mainly cause i buy all my own stuff so i only buy on sweet deals

I try to only replace stuff when I need it, with new skis and binders every year (probably not always justified, but whatever). I finally am getting a full on goretex outerwear combo, so that shouldn't need replacing for a while I hope. I will need new boots next year though.

i'm pumped to be done growing so i can hold onto my boots for longer, pants and jackets usually last 1-2 seasons at best, but that's why I buy shit at tjmaxx or at sweet sales, haven't spent more than $50 on any pant or jacket in the last few years. This year I got one pair of new pants and two new jackets all for like $120. I'd like to not get new goggles but I think I need at least a new lense since I'm an idiot and got 'em scratched. oh and I did get some new sticks this year, that usually happens every other year for me, in this case it was necessary since I snapped my skis last year.

I buy at least some piece of gear every year...whether it's a new jacket, skis, goggles, helmet, poles, whatever. And it's always because of beat the shizz out of the previous ones.

A... something is always worn out at the end of every season, usually 3 somethings, and often I just upgrade my partly-worn-out stuff for brand new stuff if the right deal comes along.

i do and i don't even know why..... i just want it i guess. i'm definately not rich, i work all summer and just spend all of my money on equipment.

e) actually have a full time job and can afford to get sweet stuff at a good deal.

I pretty much suck at skiing (I mean, in the park, I am a good overall skier) but I get new schwag almost every year, and it is all sick. I get them at good deals and usually sell them for equally good deals. Sure, I don't need new stuff, but it is the one thing I spend money on. I have a hard job and I want to enjoy the 3-4 months of skiing I get each year by getting some nice stuff. Get over it, Steve? People will buy what they want. If you weren't slightly jealous you wouldn't make threads like this.

e) i love skiing and buying any type of ski gear in the off season gets me my fix until the season starts.

So i'll buy whatever, im using my skis from last year and got a new suit...i just buy stuff when i find them dealz.

ive been getting progressivly nicer outerwear every year but now i have a jacket and pants that i really like so idk well see. I do like buying ski shit and upgrading and stuff though.

^ I agree. I cant find a pair of pants that will last me more than a season. I also work all summer and save my money then drop it in like september or october on new shit. I buy new skis every year too tho but thats cuz i get new park skis one year then new psia teaching skis the next. So yea.

Technically I don't need new gear each year, nor do I buy it to "look cool", and I don't really have that much money to spend. I just want new stuff. Generally one large purchase per season, a pair of skis, boots, or a new jacket. Last year it was skis, this year its bigger skis, next year it might be boots or avi gear....or possibly more skis (for touring). I do my best to avoid buying other things throughout the year so I can afford to feed my addiction.

if my stuff is wrecked or doesnt fit anymore or i have leftover cash ill get new gear. if i dont ill just wait until i need new stuff

I work hard... I like ski stuff. I buy new stuff every year, and sometimes half way through the year I'll buy a whole new set of clothes and maybe a pair of skis. I figure it's money well spent. Makes me happy.

I buy new pants every year, I destroy the cuffs because I fall too much. Maybe I should fall less....

x. I am a compulsive buyer and when I see deals I just go for it. Then I hate myself for it later

i buy new gear a couple of times throughout the year when ever i feel like it or whenever something new comes out i wanna be the first to have the stuff and then i just get rid of it and make some kid super happy cause they got a pair of skis that were skied on for like 10 days for next to nothing...

i gradually upgrade. Most of my equipment stays within two years old, with the exception of a few things i love (candide concepts, my pole grips, a couple hats). Course, last year i destroyed everything i owned, so i'm getting poorer and poorer as i replace it all.

i always get stuff at the beginning of the season, and then i'm like "alright im set for another couple years" and then i wind up buying more shit for one reason or another.

When I bought my skis at 160, they fit me, by the end of the year I had shot up to 6 feet and now I look like a homo and am looking for a ski in the 180 range. That would fall into the A option, but sometimes I can talk my parents into getting me some shit.

I just started it because the photo section of the site is loaded with people posting their new gear, so it makes me curious.

Myself, I usually get a pair of goggles and gloves each year. This year I'm coming up on needing new pants and gloves, and next year I'll need a new jacket if I get to ski at all.

Skis I got 2 years ago, jacket 3 years ago, pants 3 years ago, boots 4 years ago, bindings 2 years ago, poles 3 years ago (bent in so many places, I love them), helmet 4 years ago, goggles last year.

It just seems like people are spending a lot of money on getting "cool" gear, so it makes me wonder why, considering they can use that money for travel or something a little less material.

im with my man wren here!

i don't need new stuff, i just want new stuff. i don't pay retail so i get my stuff cheap
