what do you guys think? i've got some tattoos on my arm and i have a job interview coming up for a bookstore. do you think that it would matter, or should i just bust out a longsleeve shirt?

Straight up yes. Doctors and alot of certain professions won't employ people because of noticable tattoos.

yeah i would for the interview, just s othey dont judge you. If you get the job there and they get to konw you they probably wont mind the tatoos since they konw your not some crazy guy by that time.

of course, if you are going for a high paid good job.

who would higher you

a guy with tatoo's and smelly and dirty or someone who is a wearing suit and tie?

yea if you are going to a job interview it is correct to where atleast a button up shirt, a nice pair of khakis and some nice shoes. I wouldn't wear a short sleeved shirt to any type of job interview.

yeah it really matters

same with piercings, im a 4.0 student who does a lot in my community and its still really hard to be taken seriously

sooooo much.. if your gunna get one get one where you can cover it up at times... so not on your neck or like fore arm

I work as a nuclear engineer and have a full sleeve. My fiance is a software engineer and has a half sleeve and is gonna have a chest piece soon. As long as you can cover it up its ok. I wouldnt go to an interview showing it off but I wear short sleeve shirts to work and everyone knows I have it.

It really depends on the personality of the person whos interviewing you/considering hiring you.

they may hate tattoos or your specific tattoos or just beleive it will harm their business and for those reason cause a risk of you not getting the job.

but if the person whos interviewing you/considering hiring you has some gnarly ass tattoos himself/herself and dig your tattoos then they might be stkoed and hire you over other people.

ya know where im comin from?

yea wear long sleeves but at the place my dad works, lockheed martin, they actually are going to seminars and stuff about how they have to basically ignore piercings and/or tattoos. like any negative feelings they have about them they have to suck it up and live with it, and accept the fact that some of the people they hire, esp. the younger ones, have tattoos and stuff. they dont care if you have a tattoo on your head.. if you're smart and best for the job they'd hire you.

diversity matters a LOT to the company. but i guess a lot of other companies arent like that.

anyway, go for the long sleeved shirt.

depends on the bookstore. theres a bookstore in portland where all the people are like artsy weirdos and shit wiht mad tatoos and piercings.

jea, wear longsleeves, although the all around view on tattos is changing throughout the world(becoming more accepted) i'd say it wouldn't hurt.

I'm 90% sure that I didn't get a job at jcrew (after 2 interviews and having the manager talk to me about what to wear/when to work) because I have a tattoo on my left forearm.

at my curent job, they've fired people for getting visible tattoos after they've been hired. but generally only if they say stupid shit like "i fucked you mom in the ass with sandpaper" or some shit like that

i suggest that you wear a suit and tie take a shower and make sure you comb your hair... and i think the only way someone wouldn't "higher" someone else is if they had a huge tatto or birthmark on their face... cause you have to look presentable and respectable and if your wearing asuit and tie, it will mostly liekly cover your tattoo's cause their on your arms right?

but yeah stores like macy's or filene's sell a tattoo coverup in their makeup department i think it's like $40 and it's a rip but it actually works

it usually wont matter becasue they will most likley ask you if u haev any visable tatoos...IE...tatoos that people would usually see if you were wearing a T and some shorts.

go with the long sleevr. If I ever get a tattoo Im gonna get my nutsack dyed green, and I dont mean like mildly green, I mean like bright greem.

Becuase this post is new ill respond to it.

Im not sure if that is gonna last. There is a rising conservative movement in the world, ranging from the government in the US to facist groups all across Europe.

I fear an age of regression may be upon us.

Actually the government is lacking on it. The Army and Navy both just changed their standards on what is acceptable in terms of coverage since its a growing trend.

Its not like 50 years ago when it was pretty much sailors that were getting tattooed. My artist is a high school Latin teacher, I have friends who are lawyers and doctors with full sleeves...tattooing isnt going away. Horrible tribal on the other hand is. So before you go and get some huge armband pretending you are a Samoan warrior think twice about how foolish that will look.

For our generation it's becoming more and more acceptable to have tatoos. However more than likely the people doing the hiring for job positions like that are from our parent's generation where tatoos are typically associated with bikers and criminals.
