Do some ski companies give their athletes different skis than they sell to the general public

Do some pros such as simon dumont get special skis for x-games than the 12 year old how buys a pair of dumonts in the store? Im just a curious george.

most smaller companies give athletes skis that have small graphic blemishes, like the topsheets aren't perfect then they save the good ones for customers. it still skis the same just has barely noticeable graphic differences. unless your tanner hall then you get oakley and red bull layed in the bases. or simon dumont with target symblols

I'm willing to be the super high profile pipe skiers get a more custom ski. I bet Simon's pipe skis are a stiffer, faster version of what is available to the public. Just a prototype with the same graphic essentially.

yeah, especially with racers and stuff, the skis bode skis on are sooo different to the ones the racers at your local hill are skiing on.

yup. a few years back i went into the salomon store in govy while i was at MHSSC, and they had sammy's dumonts sitting next to a demo pair of dumonts. totally different ski.
armada athletes, however, ride on exactly the ski customers ride on. tanner even won one of his xgames medals on armadas he bought from a store the previous day after his got jacked at an airport.

Fucking Eric Pollard has been skiing rockered Sir Francis Bacons for years and they just made them rockered for the public this year.

there have been instances where salomon has put the new dumont pro graphic on the old dumont pro because the new one is shit and simon doesn't want to ride shit skis.

Yep. Dumont ain't riding a factory tuned Pro Pipe. Like any sport, sponsors want their athletes to win, which usually means making their gear optimal to fit them.

I was under the impression that skiers just got next years models to ski on and promote. I can imagine higher quality skis but we are already paying $600 for a top of the line ski.

Yes,

athletes will often be given custom skis with designs that would be unecessary or even unwanted by most skiers.

Most comp skis will be stiffer, have race bases and a few other design changes.

yes. i know a couple of pipe specific skiers who when they get their skis they are the "Team" ski. for example this one kid gets more camber put into his skis than the retail ski.

false. aside from base logos, they are the same ski. prototypes though are a whole different story. obviously those are different because they havent been made public at all yet.
