Do I need to have a hard case for my skis on the airplane?

yeah true true. maybe ill ask around work and see if anyones got a shell case. my soft case is pretty much just cloth

yea, that or just towels.

They toss the stuff around, but I'm not sure to what extent, if I remember correctly they actually have a unload thing set aside for skis/boards, and just generally longer items, which they might treat differently?

remeber, a ski bag + boot bag is considered ONE piece of luggage.

do not let them try and talk you into paying $80 for an extra bag. they are wrong.

I wrap my sleeping bag around my skis when I use a thin soft bag, Oh, and carry your boots on, if the airline looses your luggage (which happens a lot) you can ski on the rentals they get you but your boots are unique to you.
