Do I have any chance at winning this contest?

I am entering my movie into a high school film festival, and it made it into the finals. I got to take a look at the other movies and there were only two that stuck out to me as possible winners.

Their production value/editing/filming/story/script are all 100000x better than mine, but I sorta feel (my opinion is obviously biased) as though mine is just more entertaining and more fun to watch than the others.

What are your opinions on the movies?

Holy shit man. First of all, I liked your video a lot. Great time lapses, they looked pretty solid.

But I gotta say, I can't believe that second film is a high school entry. It was really, really, good. The high school entries at our local film festivals...well, all the entries - are nowhere near that caliber. That's a professional video made by a high school kid.

I'm not trying to be mean, just honest. If I was a judge, I'd pick #2. Just saying. As the kid who lost all the high school film festivals, my advice: be happy that your videos are on the same 'level' as that one (I didn't have a chance to watch the third one, ten min is daunting). You may win, you may not, but that's not the point. Use the experience to get fresh, unbiased critiques of your work. That's the most valuable thing you'll get at something like this.
 
Yeah man, not to dash your hope, but #2 was fucked up good. I would not expect that from a high school kid.
 
Damn, #2's was a full on professional production, that doesn't seem legit for a HS film festival...
 
Exactly what I thought. It seems way too much of a high budget film than anything else. Almost impossible the #2 is HS quality.
 
#2 was crazy for high school. I'm guessing that used lots of animation, green screen, ae, and whatever it took to get or create some of those shots. I'd be stoked to be in your position at this stage of the game though dude. Nice lapses.
 
yeah yours was definitely well done, enjoyable to watch, and probably took a lot of time to get all those shots real nice.

but that 2nd one has an interesting story line with some pretty good production value and the 3rd one holy budget. they built a whole set and everything and their quality was crazy. dragged on a little tho i thought.
 
Holy fuck at #2 that was pro! Told a great story and gave me shivers at the end! Beginning after effects was decent, not amazing, but pretty good.
 
The third one deserves to win! It had the best story and was easily presented the best. Who the hell in highschool has the money to pay for actors, build a set and still have all the amazing equipment to film it...
 
thats a reason he shouldnt win probably a really rich kid who can can get whatever he wants. i want the op to win
 
the third one was actually made by a girl and was "inspired by and dedicated to Luke Blood" (obviously someone close to her, maybe a brother?)... pretty cool if you ask me
 
Lucy was kinda creepy, but never the less all of those videos where amazing, even if the second and the third are high budget films that shouldn't be in a highschool festival. If your HS wasn't so incredible I would have thought that your video would have one.
 
well the other two aren't from my school. My school is in southern california and I am pretty sure that they go to art academies in norcal. Its a contest that was available to all students under 18 in california
 
Didnt watch all of lucy cause I didnt like it,

watched all of yours and its an awesome timelapse,so much footy too, must have taken a long ass time.

But damn.... number 2 is like a real short film, gave me the shivers at one point. The main actor looks like someone who would be part of my dads family in poland... maybe thats why it hit me pretty hard
 
Its BS. I have a friend who was an actress on the new OZ movie (2013 release). I can't remember the guys name but he visited the set, a huge A-List director from LA. His son wanted to go to NYU for film. My dad basically planned the whole shot, paid for everything and his son directed and shot it. He got it. Seriously its BS.
 
fucking read the posts. He is from SO Cal and it a was a comp for all of Cali. So they go to some art school up North most likely.
 
Thir parents are probably like actors and actresses and directors and producers and all that shit. They were probably like, derp? film festival? heres 10 grand get out of here
 
I seriously expect a bit more from the second one if they go to a school designed for film. A music video really just doesn't cut it in my mind.
