Do Girls Have An Easier Time Getting Sponsored?

I was just watching they see me trollin and watching black Steve with his profi- hoeing and I noticed that this pro woman skier was landing stuff pretty sketch I'm not sexist towards women its just something I noticed.

yea...not to be sexist again, but women kinda suck compared to men in skiing, to start the men's skiing just did triples, only one woman can do a double. Women's tricks are rarely executed stylishly, I honestly think its the sport, men tend to do more dumb/crazy things and have a higher rate-ooh a cliff type mentality that you don't find in women (self preservation was was the word i was looking for).

College man basketball vs. the WNBA (if you don't know what that is, it's OK)

And women aren't up to par with men because there haven't been enough ladies like Lisa Zimmermonkey in the big time contests making a fool of the "veteran" "pros". Humiliation is the strongest form of progression. Just ask Tom Wallisch.

hybrid man women is correct, cept they still can't dunk which makes the game a lot less fun to watch, and by watch i mean change channels less slowly

JMC seemed pretty good in the wcs vid, possibly the funniest dub back attempt of all time.

if the girl you're referring to that you saw was lisa zimmermann, she's one of the few girls that throw down hard

it's all about numbers.

there are a ton of guys throwing flippy spinny things evey which way in parks all across the planet. at the same time there are very few girls doing the same thing. the best of each gender are getting picked up and marketed by the brands to push their product.

do girls have an easier time getting brand support? i would say no. women have a different body make up affecting their center of gravity so i would say it's more difficult for them to learn bigger tricks. there are also way fewer spots out there for girls. womens' skis don't fly off the shelves the way the mens' product does and women are even skiing on mens skis these days as well. because of this, the budget for sponsoring women is a lot smaller than it is for men.

another thing people on NS either forget about or completely ignore about sponsorship is that sponsors aren't necessarily looking for the absolute best skier in the park to give product to. sponsors want someone that is friendly, hangs out with the kids, helps out with demos, keeps his ego in check, etc... in this day in age, good skiers are a dime a dozen, it's all about what you can do for the brand.

the whole "our bodies cant do that" is a bullshit answer. its common knowledge that girls can absolutely slay a race course. everyone know girls kill it in gymnastics. weve all seen lisa zimmerman ski.

my theory is that the difference is incentive. if you want to be recognized as a skier and you have a penis, you have to fucking work your ass off, and be able to compete with global-level athletes. if you want to be recognized as a girl skiing park, you just need to buy skis and make it to the end of that flat bar. there is still room on the bandwagon, you dont need to bump kaya off for some exposure.

It's a joke, why should people fight for equality when this comes in, because women are so so so far behind men on a competitive scale, why should they be paid equal or treated equal in the industry when all they do are rodeo 7's at most and scrappy 3's and are the supposed top of their "sport"? Womens skiing especially is far behind the men, and then they expect to have smaller jumps as well? Only Darla and Lisa Zimmerman have the tricks ready for the olympics or even a decent slopestyle or pipe event, and the same with Aimee Fuller, Cheryl Maas and Kimmy Fasani, plus Elena Height, in snowboarding! Only two women pros are on par with the men in backcountry, Ingrid Backstrom and Annie Boulanger in skiing and snowboarding respectively, and in urban I see no women skiers, only Jess Kimura (snowboarder), who kills it! The women pros are paid to do what they "love", why don't they show how hard they can work for it then, by doing the same jumps and rails as men and bigger tricks? Big up Devin Logan for hitting the same and keeping it real, instead of sponsored people like Sine Anderson who'll hit one jump a year and is paid just to be pretty by Nike, or Kelly Clark spinning with no style winning X even though Elena had a styley dub back rodeo not even men did! We don't reward those who are actually good enough, just the ones who look good with a beanie and long hair!!!! Cmon, why do we like people like Kaya Turski who can barely 9 and 12 year olds in PC are better than, when Lisa Zimmerman drops huge dub 12 safeties on huge kickers? Too much money pumped into bad skiers and boarders on the woman's side who may have a nice face when they wear a red bull beanie and not enough to people like Hana Beaman, Peepshow, Kelly Sildaru, I could go on!!!!!!

Can't quote on mobile but cleargoggles I just wanted to point out that Kelly clark does not look good in a beanie. She ratchet

I'm soooooo happy that ski companies are sponsoring more female athletes. The industry is still ridiculously sexist, but this is a start. Now they just need to put out more quality edits featuring women skiers. We deserve the same respect that the guys get.

i was watching the women at my local rail jam and it took the best girl 3 tries to get a front 2 out of a 5 foot high flat bar. when she finally landed it(really sketchy) the whole place was cheering. i really didnt understand why. she won too.

This is stupid logic. The ski industry invests in people that are going to produce positive exposure for their brand, regardless of gender. Why would a company put a bunch of money into a girls team, when they could just give some skis to guys that will put out killer edits for free and collect a lot more exposure? Athletes are investments, team managers aren't just giving skis and contracts out for the hell of it. Nobody needs to take initiative to make more women edits, that is your job. If there were girls killing it out there enough to keep me entertained for a 3 minute edit, I would be so stoked! But at this point, there are maybe 4 girls that can do that. You need to earn respect, it isn't just handed to you because you don't have a peepee.

all of this. girls can be sweet athletes, there's just no incentive in park skiing. plus girls are smart and boys are dumb so we like to throw ourselves off of large jumps and spin around on metal features that can ruin our chances at future procreation. it's pretty awesome being a boy, would choose again.

^ higher form of incentive, there are hundreds of male skiers who throw down twice as hard if not more than pro woman skiers, and what do they receive at the end of the day? Nothing, they do it for the love, shit if they can get free skies that just makes it better, incentive is a joke, millions of people around the world do what they love because they love it, they don't need anything else.

Higher form of incentive? I know so many guys with no ambition to go pro that absolutely kill it. The "incentive" (what a fucking joke) should be internal satisfaction, pride, drive, and seeking fun....you know...like it is for all skiers that don't make a living doing it (99.99%). Are there girls at the local park saying "Well, I would try a cork 9 but the prize money at x games is only 20g's and roxy doesn't give their riders enough of a travel budget"? I don't think so.

One other thing. If a girl doesn't freeski, how would she know anything about the gender dynamics in freeskiing? They wouldn't. So, girls gravitate towards freeskiing for the same reason I did, and ostensibly you did, because it's fucking fun! If there's a dude out there who started skiing because he made a pragmatic decision about the state of the industry and prospective rewards from future competitions, I sure as hell haven't met him, and I hope not to.

Social stigma? Fuck off, dude. Anyone with half a brain supports/gets stoked for etc. their female skier friends, I know I do. The only real negativity is from a marginal vocal minority of dipshits, who likely as not are so/so park skiers themselves who actually say shit to their friends like "If I were a girl...".

I too wonder why women's skiing is lagging behind in such a noticeable way, but when you start blaming all this peripheral shit it becomes a joke. I have no problem with women's skiing, and frankly, I won't lose sleep if Kaya never lands a dub 10. If they're stoked on skiing, each other, the lifestyle, etc. I'm on board.

I guess I should've just quoted your post and said "this post blows".

The "girls can't ski as hard as guys" argument is sorta blown out of the water by girls throwing triples.

There's really no reason why the gap is so large besides that they progress more slowly because of less competition, less incentive to do better.

You don't see girl being compared so vastly to men in other sports like Athletics and football (or soccer)... Where, although they do compete on the same course, they're not expected to be running as fast or throwing as far.

It's obvious that girls have much less muscle physically, I can't imagine any of you guys fancying a girl who has the body of a man and therefore would be able to compete at the same level.

Girls get sponsored in relation to their competitors, as boys do, and fair we don't have to perform at the same level as the guys but as a result of a smaller body and different centre of gravity it's not physically possible as is the same with many other sports.

Also if you think about it from the brand's point of view, a good looking girl is more likely to sell stuff to general punters (who bring in most of their revenue) who have no idea about freestyle.

This is an awesome article, you should check it out: http://freeski.downdays.eu/featured/07/05/2013/in-defence-of-women/

I think people like lisa z and kelly sildaru prove that you are wrong. I would say that the biggest thing holding women's skiing back are pro women skiers.

If all it takes is a sw 7 to win a slope run, why even try to huck a double? Why take an extra risk when no one else is going to, and a lower risk run will win? But i think this doesn't just apply to comps, i believe it applies to everything. If all it takes to get a sponsorship with a travel budget is kind of lame tricks in a few movies and even lamer tricks in comps, why try any more than the minimum? Hopefully Lisa will force the sport forwards by out performing her peers, and maybe more big name pros will try bigger tricks to stay competitive.

Once women can actually land a 5 with style, I might consider taking you semi-seriously. You realize there are twelve year old boys out there that are better than the majority of female skiers? It's not the industry, it's the lack of progression shown by women.

Personally coming from a girl, i think that there's such a big gap because girls get scared. I know so many girls that could have the potential to be on a level that no ones ever seen before. The problem is that girls and guys differ because as stated above, guys arent afraid to wreck themselves. Girls will get style eventually. Once more get to the level that lisa z is on where also stated above, There is an incentive to progress at a competitive level.

noooope. you just need to stop complaining about your slightly different center of gravity and try tricks and not just hang out on the hill thinking your awesome for doing a mens sport

Here's the best(and first) quad to date, outside of aerials.

pretty sure that's not the case, other wise i'd be sponsored right now, and so would 95% of all other female free skiers....
