I'm currently in need for a new pair of boots, and I'm looking at some dalbellos, I've been in Lange all my life and I'm wondering if dalbello runs smaller or bigger.I wear a size twelve shoe if it helps.

There is no right answer to this question. Each brand makes 4-5 different fits within their brand, from world cup narrow to super wide, and everything in between. To ask if they run smaller or bigger doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of how to find the right boot for you or if a certain Dalbello is appropriate for your foot.

Go to a boot-fitter, ask him/her to assess your foot and select the right boot based on your foot's dimensions.

^ to be fair it's pretty universal that Dalbello's have a shorter length than most in their advertised size and they are a roomier boot than a lot of other brands regardless of the last for most of their models. Toe boxes are pretty roomy across the line. The MX's are great if you have a wide last.

... Yes it is. What part of what I said is "not true at all".

Their BSL is consistently shorter than others of the same mondo. The MX lines are great for wider feet. Most of their toeboxes are roomier than other brands.. like honestly ... What are you talking about?

Just remember that simply because a BSL is shorter, it doesn't necessarily mean that the internal last is shorter. BSL only refers to the external measurement and does not directly reflect the internal length.

For example, in size 26/26.5, a Hawx Ultra has a BSL of 300mm and a Hawx Magna has 309mm, but the Ultra has a longer last by about 3mm.

A lot of people I have spoke to feel dalbellos start out feeling shorter in length but will eventually feel longer. A lot to do with the liners they use being thicker than other brands. The dalbellos intuition liners are shorted in length than the actual shell of the boot. The toe box is also a lot squarer than lange making it feel longer on the big to and small toe. Personally I have always used a 26.5 in full tilt, would be a 26.5 in lange but would go for a 25.5 in a dlabello lupo. In order to really know what size to go for go to a proper boot fitter.

Hawk magna last is 102, ultra last is 98.

Is Last by definition not the width of the boot in the forefoot. or that is where the majority of brands measure the last? your post is rather confusing. i think you have got the last and length mixed up there. I would agree the ulta feels 3mm longer in length but the last is definitely not wider than the magna.

No, I don't have it mixed up :)

You are referring to last width in the forefoot. I was only speaking about the last length.

The last is the part of the mold that creates the fit area of the shell (there's also a last for the cuff).

Here is an example of a (shell) last- the entire metal piece in the picture is the last:

903784.jpeg

In size 26/26.5, the last of Hawx Ultra is 98mm wide, with a length of 290mm.

In size 26/26.5, the last of Hawx Magna is 102mm wide, with a lengh of 288mm. (I was off by a mm in my previous post).

Just depends on what boot you get... I used to ride a pair of tom wallisch FT 26.5 and they were 301mm while my Dalbello KR Rampage are 307mm which the 6 mm makes a huge difference in room for me. Best tip is go to the boot fitter and try on boots. Your foot might not even fit a Dalbello and if your foot does you can always shell fit.

Again, longer BSLs don't always directly correspond to a longer internal length. Dalbellos are crazy thick boots (also why it weighs significantly more than your older FT) and this plays a huge role in why the boot is longer externally. I bet what you are feeling is more a combination of a slightly longer last (maybe 1-2mm, max 3mm), thinner liner (in certain zones), a lower instep, and different forward lean.

A longer feeling boot is quite often more so a result of a lower instep & liner construction, than purely a longer internal last. A lower instep will automatically pull the foot back into the heel pocket, a higher instep will allow the foot to slide forward into the toe box. Dropping the instep height by 2mm has an immediate and noticeable effect on how long the boot feels, even if the actual length is unchanged.
