Do carp = crap ?

Anyone intentionally fish for carp? Carp are so easy to catch near me, FAT carp too, and all the good fish are way out deep at this point. They're a garbage fish, invasive bottomfeeders-- I hear from so many people that they're gross to eat. I feel like they'd be good to fry though, anything's good fried! Or some people say they can be smoked?

I bowfish for carp. No one I know eats them.

Before the crazies get all up in arms, carp are an invasive species from Asia. They multiply incredibly quickly, grow quite large, and pose serious problems for native species. The carp eat the vegetation, which is where fish lay their eggs. When the young hatch, they have no place to hide from predatory fish. The same is true for insects, salamanders, etc. Fish & Game encourages all sportsmen to catch or shoot as many carp as possible, year-round, and kill them all.

That said, there are some cultures (usually Koreans and other Asians I believe) that like to eat carp. If you try, you need to make certain to cut out all the red meat.

They actually are pretty decent to eat. Just if people go into eating them knowing they're carp they already have a mindset thinking it'll be gross. That's why a lot of places are rebranding Asian Carp as other names so people will eat them. This is a food source that should be fully taken advantage of that's good to eat and good for the environment to eat them. Very rare.

i've never tried skinning one, but from what I understand they're incredibly bony, so it makes them a pain in the ass to eat.

Personally i enjoy the challenge of throwin flies to big ole vacuum mouth poopfish slobs specially off the sup

way more than watchin a bobber on a crowded overfished river for fish that you can put your hand around that get caught a lot

It's primarily sight fishing and real similiar to salt water flats fishing

Which is usually spendy as fuck

they call em poor mans bonefish for a reason.

bein a landlocked bum i don't get a lot of chances to fish salt

so when i do havin a tight game helps

a lot of fish only live in beautiful places

It's not to get more people to eat them. It's because people were offended by the name Asian and saying that it is racist.

That said. They're actually completely safe to eat, don't taste bad at all (yes I've had some), and there have been fish distribution companies benefitting from the basically free fish...
