So i want to know if you need vinyl for sl1200's and tables like that or if you can just hook them up to a laptop and use VDJ instead. I know its a newb question but please help.

i know there are a lot of old school dj's out there that will say to get vinyl turntables but i would honestly just say to get some decent CDJ's and a basic mixer, (especially if you're just starting)

i have a lot of friends that spin and produce their own music, i don't do it myself but have messed around on all sorts of equipment and as a person that just does it for fun, that's what i think is best and easiest to learn on.. its also just so much easier to put an mp3 on a cd and spin on a CDJ rather then try to find a song on vinyl.

hope that helped.

cdjs blow cock, i started out with cdjs and hated it

get serato + techs. Unless you love spinning with an obsolete format (cds) and love having no soul

Hey there, the pioneer cdj 900 and 2000 are pretty nice. they have alot of advantages that vinyl don't have if you mix lots of trance, electro, house etc...

CDJ's are not as fun as vinyl but do have some advantages. if your just starting out and aren't looking to spend money on buying a ton of vinyl go with some cdj's. Look at the numark ndx400 if you are looking for something cheaper than pioneers. and yeah they can scratch but probably not very well.

You can get M audio torq for 150ish, and find two used techs and a mixer for 400 easy total cost = 550
the price of one cdj200 (pio's cheapest cdj) = 400

yeah that is very true. vinyls have a much better feel to them and sound so much better than a cd will ever. still remember to bring in the cost of continuesly buying vinyl

i dont know what cdj's you used... i will admit that the ones i learned on (my roommates) are Pioneer 1000mk3's. i thought they were pretty bad ass myself but then again, i'm not somebody trying to become a DJ... i just mess around on the shit... those cdj's run about 1500 bucks.. i'm sure the less expensive ones may not do the job that they did.

Any turntablism without vinyl < any turntablism with vinyl... Get those discs, its betta. CDJ lag and skip and are just fake its like downloading music from the internet... just not as cool as buynig it. Just get technics and serato and some blanks if your into that gay shit (nah serato is the shit but im too poor to have it)

don't listen to those nazis who say vinyl only, you can all move to germany and circle jerk with all of the other diehard vinyl enthusiasts. new cdjs are just as good as tables. I stopped using my techs and switched up to ableton with an apc, and it blows tables out of the water with what you can do to your music.

question to those of you who use vinyl, where the fuck do you play out that still has tables?? every single club in colorado is cdj exclusive. they'll laugh at you if you show up with a crate.
if you do want to learn with vinyl though... buy my shit.. tech 12 mk5s, and a denon dnx120 mixer.

thats really weird, unless you're going to hip hop clubs. and new cdjs are on par with techs. the newest pioneers are better. or a numark cdx, that thing has no lag at all, feels like vinyl, but better. I feel like the cdj trashing should end. I did vinyl for a while, have used cdjs, and now am controller only. making a monome during my spare time. I feel that DJing is all about keeping up with the times now, and vinyl, even using time control, is dead. unless you move to germany. but nobody likes germans anyway. (just kidding, I love germans, and boys noize is the tits, but you get my point). the most popular DJs are already moving on from CDJs, they haven't touched vinyl in years. controllerism is the way of the future, and living in the past is never a good thing.

You're spewing so much bullshit it isnt even funny.
The CDXs? Talk about living in the past, they felt fine, but even then they were known pieces of shitMaking a monome? Cool check out my thread, I made my own controller. Time control is dead? You're smoking some serious shit dudeHavent touched vinyl in years? Oh yeah Richie hawton, Carl Cox, all of those nobodies hate vinyl huh?Djing is about keeping up with the times? That explains why the most popular producers use synths and beat machines that have 30+ year old technology on them
Im fine with kids using controllers, but when people spew this shit with huge generalizations it just pisses me off, go to cali and circle jerk around girl talk while i go to germany
