DJ'ing a church rave.

My school (for whatever reason) thought I would be a good candidate to DJ one of the Thailand Church rave's, that have close to 500 attending people in a 30x30 room. They supply me with all the equipment, basically all I have to do is sit behind the table and play my own playlist and mix the songs. So, since my town has a copious amount of degenerate pot smokers who think there the shit and love TECHNO, I need to impress them, because if I get recommended again, they'll continue to hire me back and pay 150 a dance. Sooooo.... these are some of my favorites I have so far, please Dj's and Techno lovers leave songs and tips on how I can do this right. Here are some of my favorites I have so far:

Its not for a church, it's in a church, I guess I just phrased it wrong. It's acutally to raise money for a Thailand trip.

Standing on each others cocks*, there's gonna be so much sin going down in there, I won't be suprised if god smites the church and sets it on fire.

so what kind of techno are you looking for more specifically?

give me an idea of what you are wanting, so far I'm gathering that you mostly want some of the more poppy techno with words and stuff in it???
regardless you can't really beat cornelius/static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

if you give me some more direction i'm in a helping mood.

I imagine he is looking for generic BS techno that people who don't know a whole lot about techno would like. So stuff like basshunter would probably make them happy enough. God I hate to say that but I am probably right.

would you suck a dick on stage for 150? because that's basically what you're doing. techno is the gayest shit out there.

Well 1. learn how to dj. I imagine you know how or you are screwed. 2. I find it better to play a certain genre of music instead of all over the place, thats pretty much common sense. 3. Go to some torrenting website and search for "the best trance" or something along those line. Download a lot because you will be playing for more than 10 minutes I imagine, find what you like and use it. No one here will run you off a list of 50+ songs I imagine and if they do I say good job.
Oh and it's illegal to play music that was illegally acquired (double the illegalness right there). I don't know if you care about that or not, so basically the $150 covers your song list if it does depending on how long you have to play for/ how many songs you will actually want.

I know how to DJ alirght, Im using virtual DJ right now, which I assume is pretty newbie, I also have a couple of white panda mixes, so if I wanna take a break for a bit and kinda just bop with some bids I can just throw those on....

here are a few that might work for your needs

Feel It - tiesto and three six mafia
Ambiguous (disco Fries Remix)
Dynamite (dark intensity remix)
Alors on Danse Remix - Stromae ft. Kanye West
I can't behave myself - Deadmau5
Miami to Ibiza - Swedish House Mafia
One - Swedish House Mafia
Barbara Streisand - Ducksauce
In the Dark - Dev

pretty much anything by Avicii, he's blowing up right now.

Actual house music from back in the day? Might be too mellow and funky for all those kids that hear anything electronic and go "I LOVE TECHNO!" when it's like rihanna, but whatevs.

And a little more mainstream/upbeat sounding...

Meh VDJ isn't nooby at all, software is software as far as i'm concerned and its best to use whatever program you like the most. I started with VDJ, switched to traktor, then moved back to VDJ cause I liked it more.
Not sure how much mixing you've done, but for a successful mix I'd do a couple of basic things.
firstly, unless you already like to spin the type of music you will be mixing (which it doesn't sound like), i'd let some people who will be attending direct you to their favorite mixes or songs. as long as you have a playlist built up from what the attendees like to listen to your set will be a success no matter how bad your mixing might be (eg: skillex - literally will play live shows using itunes yet people still love it).
also, watch the bpm of the songs you will be mixing - common sense is that you start your set with a lower bpm, work your way higher, then back down as you come to the end. you'd be surprised by how many people forget to organize a set this way.
the other thing is that (presumably) you'll just be doing end zone mixes, so just set up your cue points ahead of time, run through the mix a few times for practice, and then just make sure you have 5 or so tracks that you know FOR SURE people will like so you can toss them in if your mix goes to shit partway through.
oh, also, again i dont know how much experience you have mixing or using VDJ, but always check that the auto BPM is correct, that aspect of the software is a completely worthless.

Wow thanks so much, and yea, I was planning on just progressing the BPM until the last song, which was the high I didn't plan on coming back down, and yea, Ive already been warned about the auto BPM thing, and I have been taking suggestions as far as what the people attending want, but it's always nice to get a second party opinion.
Very helpful +k

Keep em coming guys.

personally i like to split my mixes up so that the first 40% or so is buildup, 40% at approx the highest bpm (personally i spin mainly dubstep so while its mainly around 140bpm i just use the tracks that have the most "energy"), 19% building down, and then right at the very end i'll throw in a banger just to get everyone moving again and end the night on a high note (no pun intended).
just do what sounds good and people will like it, bottom line.

"come fly away feat. channing" by benny benassi makes girls wet on the spot when they hear it. same with "sex slave" by mellefresh and deadmau5

check out this dubsteppp braaahhhs:

just remember to have fun up there dude. talk to the crowd; don't just go up, plug in your computer and play your set. get them amped up.
