I dont have the time to find a bike forum and ask and I dont know anybody to ask so here it goes.

I've been riding the same BMX bike for about 4 years now. It's finally to the point where I dont think it's worth fixing. It's heavy, bombproof but I guess that can be expected out of what feels like tungsten. I need to spend more money on replacement parts (almost everything) then the thing was worth new. Time for a change.

I really just want to hit dirt jumps, however we sit on damn near 300 acres of some stuff a mountain bike would just beg to destroy. I dont want a mountain bike and I still want something pretty compact, but I would be interested in taking a step away from the BMX world. I don't want to break the bank. I know you get what you pay for but it's not like I'm an expert. I know nothing. Somebody tell me everything I need to know. Everything, please, I'm fucking clueless.
 
look at the specialized p series. I think they have a bunch of models now and have had good reviews. I think a P.2 is about $600-700.
 
could anybody hook me up with a good forum for this stuff? That would be awsome cause I can't learn everything i need here.

 
pinkbike and ridemonkey are great forums.

but howmuhc are you willing to spend? if around 1000 to 1500, may i suggest building your own bike?

if not, get what skillitary said, its the perfect bike for you
 
I'll have a sick paycheck next summer and realistically could spend up to 1500, but I'd have to wait till the season is half over and I'd rather have a bike a bit sooner. What can a guy get for what price point is what I'm having trouble finding. Thanks for the forum links though, those are really helpful.
 
Definatley look at the Giant STP line. They are super solid bikes with dialed geo. I ride an '07 stp1 and it's great.
 
ok so you want suspension forks? marzocchi dj series at least 3 or rockshox argyle

gears: singlespeed or rear derailleur(sram) and chainguide (e.13 lite guide)

frame: steel, horizontal dropouts for singlespeed or vertical for gears. ex:blk mrkt mob, identiti666, atomlab trailpimp, azonic steelhead, dobermann pinscher and many others

cranks: bmx, primo hollowbites are great
