DIY Poles

yooooooo... so im gonna try and make a pair of bamboo ski poles with some bamboo from the hardware store, does anyone have a suggestion on something i could maybe buy from the store which i could use on the base as the tips and basket? Any help would be appreciated, especially if someone has already done something like this previously!

buying poles is for posers

use the tip of a screwdriver as the tip of the pole, that way the pole can double as a screwdriver to adjust bindings and other stuff. if you dont want to use a screwdriver use a bolt. get creative with the grip, i honestly have no idea what your gonna do for baskets. also instead of bamboo an aluminum rod would work.

Classic river side tenting newschoolers

if you want baskets and grips, go by a swap at the start of next season and go to the night before when people register gear

the old/unacceptable stuff the swap wont take (most dont take used poles) gets usually tossed in a barrel or something out front.

you could bamboo it but i would just cut an old pair

Do you have access to a lathe? You could get some short 3" diameter dowels and cut a grip into them and cover it in sport tape. For baskets, maybe the bottom of a large can firmly glued in place?

Unfortunately not :( like the idea tho

I mean you could always just buy poles baskets if you wanted. I like the screw driver for tips idea. I would use a bmx grip for the grips cuz if the bamboo has a wide enough diameter that you can fit a bar end in, it would be super easy to put straps on them.

If anyone still cares I got it all done but the baskets. Still tryna think of the best solution if anyone has any ideas :) (also not living in ski town atm so have no access to second hand or even cheap new poles)

Dude that's sick. Nice work. No idea on the baskets. Maybe hit up Panda Poles.

Protip: that fire hazard on the wall gives me anxiety.

Thanks man! And the whole reason I built instead of buying is cause panda poles wanted to charge $100 for shipping to aus so I dunno what they’d charge for just baskets :(

Also I leave the fire hazard as it’s my work place. Fire = I can go

There's are rad.

Maybe eat some Pringles and use the tops for baskets.

Also if you find the electrical tape too slippy I've had success with hockey tape, bike grip tape and racket tape when chopping poles.

I just bit the bullet and ordered some black diamond powder baskets online. Cost me $15. Only spent $45 all up so pretty stoked

Post pics of the final product, I wanna see how dope they look.

I recently did the same thing. I used bamboo I grew, some BMX bike grips from amazon, and a 2$ pair of poles from a used gear shop to make the tips and baskets
