Diving board doubles

I've been recently getting more into the doubles type stuff (double front, back, etc.) off the diving board and I want to progress into some newer stuff...

how closely related is it ACTUALLY to skiing and how would you go about throwing stuff like possibly off-axis doubles and double rodeos/misties?

it feels different but like anything, it will help your air sense and spotting while in the air

i used to hit up the board when i started skiing to learn about "air-sense" it helped quite a bit. As for cork yet it can be done, but its not really the same, sorry i couldn't be of greater help

i can do flips off my neighbors and its cool just you can stay at the end and jump unless you jump out far enough i run then jump cause you can hit your head easily.

its definitely different. try doing a back flip just running forward and going straight off a diving board and to do one on skis is easier than that. put you get your air sense down so its easier when you do it on skis.

try out some front to back double flips a kid at my pool is nasty at diving and throws those all the time its pretty dope

Well I can throw corks and misties and sometimes rodeos/flats off the board. I was on dive team for 3 years so I learned double fronts and backs (while standing backwards) and gainer 1 and a halfs and I just learned double lincolns today. But I have no idea how to take those off axis and change it up a bit to get some variety into the doubles and learn a ton more.

For example, double misties. When I try to throw them I always end up doing a misty 9 or 10 because I just huck it and I don't really have any control. I just want some tips from people who can throw these double corks/misties/rodeos/flats, etc.

I was just in Durango at the Rec Center doing some doulbes off the high-dive, and doubles on anything are going to be similar, i.e. tramps, water ramps, diving bards, snow, etc... Although they are very different in some things, (approach, landing, etc...) they all help you with air sense, and awarness. The more you do the more farmiliar you will be with it when you take it to the snow. It'll all help you with spotting your landing inbetween flips and things of that nature.

oh and I know how different the single tricks feel on the diving board.

But because on doubles you're so blind is it way different taking it to snow or would you just feel like it's the same rotation but way slower on skis?

and gus posted this right before the one below him and this is sort of what I'm looking for. Do you have any tips on how to throw a double misty, rodeo, or flat?

ummmm i think to throw a double misty i would be more thinking and throwing the flip then the spin. when i throw a misty i set the flip and then look over my shoulder. so set the flip hard as you can to get the doubel and then look over your shoulder to make it your misty 7 or 9 or what have you

In the Hornbeck interview, I saw how he was talking about working on perfecting his takeoff stage, air stage, and landing stage of all his tricks, and I bet the diving board helps with the air stage.

An easy diving board double after double fronts, and double backs is basically a misty 5 to backflip. Some people do more of a frontflip, then 180, then backflip, but it can turn out alright. Also, a misty 5 to a flat or rodeo 5 works too.

i can throw dub lincolns but there rly isnt a point in the air where i know exacly where I am so ill prolly not take them to the snow, but there fun to throw at like ur town pool and have ppl ask do u snowboard or sumthin? haha

anybody do double backs off a regular diving board. ie not a real spring board. I can do double fronts but ive never tried back

i can do most doubles of the boards, not on skis yet though unfrotunately

misty/rodeo - throw it down like your gonna do a misty of something really short, grab your shins and bring your knees into your body, and once you come up from the first flip, look over your shoulder and roll into the second

rodeo 7/misty - similar to the one above, but set it like a rodeo obviously, with less flip rotation, and set the spin harder, and when you come around after the first flip, roll down towards the water for the second one.

kang/double flat- set it almost like a you would a lincol, but throw it hard, and make SURE you look directly up at the celing in the first flip, and for this one its easeir to wrap under the knees, almost like your doing a japan on skis.

double gainer - make sure you get off the board before you sling it. thats my only tip for that one.

aerial backflip- pretty easy doubleflip, but really easy to overrotate. it always seems like you're not gonna make the backflip around, and you end up tucking hard, then overrotating. thats me anyways. set and aerial (laid out) super hard though, and once you come around bring your knees to your chest and look straight back over your head

double cork - this ones wierd, i dont ave it perfect yet. but set it down like your doing a cork 5, ive found that leading mute helps me do this one, and just spin really really fast. after the first cork it feels like you're completely fucked, but just commit, keep spinning and you'll come out of it.

thats al i have
best of luck man.

I did a double front off a bridge a few weeks ago. That's it though. The diving board at the city pool is too low for doubles. It's like 3 feet off the water. And you get in big trouble with the lifeguards if you do a backflip.

someone tell me how to do a gainer off a diving board, i've tried and tried but can't get em. Is it easier doing them off something like a cliff or platform than a diving board?

Help!

pretty cruisy mate...start by doing a normal running gainer without using the spring of the board.

then when you are comfortable with that, just take your normal run up, spring off with your head in front of your legs (angled outwards in other words...gives you the momentum to avoid hitting your head on the board), then just pull your knees above your head as you normally would. practise makes perfect as always but it really is very easy if you know how to do a gainer off the edge of your pool etc

thanks mate! so easier off ledges then? I have seriously tried it all, no luck, just need to grow a pair i guess

i can do a frontflip with a late 180 without a diving board. sometimes i do another but dont really know what to call it i do half a front flip then do a 180 whilee upside down do half a backflip then a late 180

You mean a regular backflip...where your back is facing the water? I know how to do those. I'm learned doubles of all the straights except for inverses (in skier terms switch fronts) and gainers. Now I'm looking more into the flips with spins and off-axis stuff.

i was huckin legit doubles off one last week, but i couldn't cork to save my life, prolly cause its slippery an my one ankle was messed up

yea just run and jump a little more out than you usually do, but unless you jump straight up you wont come back on the board. then throw your hips out like your humping something real hard, and tuck up and commit. thats how a friend explained it to me and it worked well

i have a huge arsenal of tricks i can throw off a 1 meter board (claim). such include throwing double fronts, backs and gainers. I can also throw 5's with a rodeo, misty, flatspin, as well as a hucked 1440 bio. I also throw some trick where i do a back flip then 180 into a front flip. unfortunately i cant do most of these on skis due to my rediculously small home park (35ft jumps max) but hope to progress these into this coming season.

yeah we cant do backs at our pool some kid got fucked up but yeah i can do a double front eassssyyy of the low dive which is 1ft off the ground. the first couple times you do it your thinking to yourself in your head where is the water when am i going to hit!?!?! but doing it a couple times i knew exactly when i was going to hit. so yeah air sense

Kids at CU boulder are allways throwin shit off the high dive there...

matt walker and some other kid can usually be seen at start of fall semester

I once got a double lincoln 180 sort of thing of a low dive by just hucking the fuck and tucking but i really couldn't see shit as far as landing goes and just got lucky... throwin off a 5 meter is easier but its easier to rack yourself too

do tried a double cork today. last hit of the day and all these little like 15 year olds are throwing down about the same as me so i try to step it up a notch. so i went for a double cork first attempt at it and i just huck it as hard as i can and i must have hucked it hard cause i dont even think i got more than like 450 on the first cork and i just smashed into the water face first felt like someone punched me in the face with a 3 foot fist. i got out of the water and i was like purple. it was pretty fun tho. well worth it.

my bud was trying them and he almost stuck those it was sick shit

then I tried a double misty today and ate it hard on the second flip...way overrotated haha

yeah and its like the kid said above after the first cork you feel really fucked. but like in a good way.

i just got double fronts! woot

and gainers off the 20 foot jump out on the lake... fuckin scary cuz theres no bounce

although its totally different then skiing, gettin ur airsense is really important

plus its fuckin fun
