Dislocated Shoulder Surgery

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this issue. Like how long was your recovery time, how was the return to skiing, etc.

I re-dislocated mine about three weeks ago and unfortunately this time things got torn and surgery is my only feasible option.

They told me I would probably be out from an activity like skiing for 4 months, so until march.

Obviously I don't want to miss about my entire ski season, so I'm seeing if any of you had a faster recovery or any wisdom on the subject.

wow sounds real shitty. I would also like to hear about this because i dislocated my shoulder last april on the last day my hill was open. It healed but this fall when it got cold i definatly felt it again. Definatly want to avoid surgery.

You are talking about dislocated not seperated correct?

i dislocated mine in august and tore my teres minor & infraspinatus. i was out for about 2 months, but didn't have to go through the whole surgery deal.
if the docs are telling you x months, then I would say that's probably a pretty safe estimate as they are more qualified than anyone on NS. they're also more familiar with the severity of your particular injury.
sucks dude. +vibes on your recovery. make sure you hit the PT hard once you're able. the more you PT, the stronger your recovery will be.

My brother had to get shoulder surgery last year. His recovery time was about 6 months. He missed the ski season and his baseball season. It sucks...

well i had this surgery last thursday (dislocated my shoulder when i broke my collarbone in march then did it again skateboarding a few weeks ago) and you'll be out for a solid 3 months, more like 3 and a half. better invest in an xbox and decent tv..thats what i did/am doing

Yeah I'm talking about dislocated. And I would advise you to start physical therapy and go really easy on it. I was in the same situation as you except mine felt pretty normal but then it took very little to re dislocate it and make me miss my ski season. Trust me, it is not worth it to push it. Go get it looked at and be very wary of it

A friend of mine got it and it didn't solve his problem. The doctor recommends he get it again, i think it's like 4 month recovery or something like that.

I'd listen to the doctor for what they say. Hit PT hard, I didnt listen to the doctor when i dislocated my shoulder and re-injured it worse. Now im waiting to find out on surgery or just more pt.

90% of the recovery is from PT after surgery. The surgery won't do anything without PT'ing the shit outta it! PT without surgery only sort of helps...
