Discussion Question – How big do jumps need to be?

I think this question warrants discussion and input from the

local riding community. In the course of

a discussion with HoodCoast, the issue of the size of the Meadows jumps last

year came up again. Though it is

extremely unlikely that we will be able to construct something as large as the Cascade

Superpark in 2006-2007 was as a

result of the Snoqualamie incident, there is a real probability that we can

convince those in charge that larger jumps can be safely constructed and

hit. I don’t see any reason why Meadows

shouldn’t have jumps as large as Timberline, for example. I saw some of the best skiers in the world

throwing down on the large table in the public park this summer and heard not

one single complaint about the size.

The question for discussion is: In order for talented local amateurs to

progress toward having professional level skills, at a minimum, how large do

the jumps need to be?

a 45 foot table limit is fine.

The problem was only one jump was built that size all year at meadows. If there is a line with that size jumps no one will complain.

50-60ft is about as small as you want your biggest table to be, if you want your local riders to be able to train for events like USFO at Meadows. A table line of 45-50-60 would be pretty solid (but make sure speed is not an issue)

While yes you can still progress on smaller jumps, I know that this year Stevens Pass, WA kept all of the jumps in their big line over 45-50 ft, and allways had atleast one 60ft jump for most of the year, and for a about a month or more had an 80ft jump. The result, it seems like now everyone can do 7's. switch 5's etc. and the better skiers got that much better. The size of the Jumps gave them time to work on perfecting their grabs, and spins.

45 feet is not very big at all.

i say you need at least two 65-75 foot jumps, that's just the way progression is moving.

bachy had the monstro 90 foot hip/table a few years back... that was so dope.

what were the sizes on the jump line near the end of last season on easy rider/rose city? I know on the right side there was the first small hit, the second hit with 2 options, and then the step-up. anyone know the sizes of those?

most of the jumps should be between 30 and 50 feet, build some interesteng stuff like step downs and wall rides

The jumps for the high school snowboard state championships two years ago were perfect. Make big tables that people can hip with a big step up at the bottom. Last years park was never good enough to flow without skipping something. I know you guys got a lot of snow and the park crew could never keep up but maybe focus on a big park under easy rider and a medium sized park at the HRM lift. If you build small jumps people will complain and buy the Fusion pass. I know because my friends opted out of the 4x4 and now are going to hit the Timberline parks this season.
