Din question

so i am 6 ft, 200 lbs and a type 3+ skier. I am buying new bindings for next year, and am wondering if I need a binding thats din goes higher than 12. so my question is what do you guess my din number would be around, or will i need a binding with a higher setting? Thanks for any help

very simple, its actually quite easy to do, and to figure out, but first, to do that, you must GO TO A SHOP!!! never set your din for the first time, go to a shop and have them do it, and with that, if you are still pre releasing, bump your din up by half steps, even still, try to go to a shop even for that.

o, yea, and of couse, searchbar

if you get a binding with a din higher then 12 it will only last you longer. reason being is they will most likely be way more durable, and if you do have to use it at the lower end of the range u will have some room to grow into the higher din levels, ability wise. and with your weight and ability i would probaly set it at 8-12 so get a binding that goes to 14 or 16. or you could go to a shop. haha

Eh, not to be a dick or anything but if you want to set your din at 13 or more then you need a binding that goes past 12. 13 is a bigger number than 12. If you don't want to go past 12 then you don't need a binding that goes past 12.

thats not true if you have bindings that go up to 12, you shouldnt set them higher than like 10. If you set them at 12 the springs inside get all messed up.

pretty sure bambam is a shop tech....i have found the spring weakens a lot faster if you have the binding maxed out, so 11 is okay but 12 puts constant pressure on the spring so it's not the best idea

No one answered his question. He's not asking what to set the din at but what a good din range would be for his weight and ability. You guys should read the question more carefully before bashing. In my experience 200lbs and skiing at 3+ is going to yield a high din. Thats a lot of weight at aggressive angles on the binding (not calling you fat : P ). In your case I would highly suggest the Marker Jester. With a DIN range of 6 - 16 you can set the binding around a 10/11 and have maximum retention without being on the high end of the spring and thus wearing the binding out faster (however with new binding technology this is becoming a bit of a myth). With the Jester you will have plenty of DIN to crank up to if you're pre-releasing. Good luck.

as mentioned your din number should be in the middle of the bindings range. If u are DIN 8. Get like a 6-12 binding. The middle of the range is the reliable/consistent release function. At 200lbs I would expect u should up it to a 14 or 16 binding to give u that range. Chk with the ski tech for the din for that binding company. The other guys have identified ski boot sole length and age and sone of the other things....

if you say your a type 3+ skiier and considering your height and weight, i would get a higher din binding.

i way 110 and am 6' 4'' and my dins are at 8.5 and they release when they need too not before. and they don't rip my knees out. plus you dont have to use the higher numbers on the binding you can still stay in the middle range and not destroy your springs(like a few other guys have already mentioned) and if you ever need the high dins then you will have them.
