i was wondering what the best over all lemgth for a down flat down box, and also the length of the first down and flat and second down.

6/8/6 sounds about right, but seeing as pvc comes in 10 ft sections, why not go 10/10/10 or 5/10/5? I think the 5/10/5 might be on the short side though if you're going any faster than slow.
 
Yeah, really it is all personal preference and depends heavily on your situation. If you have no trouble getting speed for wherever this rail is going to be located, you can afford to build bigger. I think anything shorter than 5 is too small. 5-10-5 would be good. But 6-8-6 or 8-8-8 or even 8-10-8 would be great. Whatever you think would be most fun and really evaluate your area and decide which measurements really fit your needs.

Or you could just make seperate boxes and then mix them around however you want. Is this for a summer setup?
 
I thought this would be a post about things in n-dimensional space, and now i'm kinda disappointed.
