Found an old Camcorder that works with Mini DV Tapes. Somehow i haven't been able to find something useful on the internet on how to digitalize them.

Im sure people on here are still recording with Mini DVs so my question is what's the easiest way to digitalize them so i can edit the footage?

Heya there

I am guessing that you are located in Switzerland.

I know that this photographer has done this for a few people: www.garysoskin.ch

Maybe he will do it for you and if not he is a super nice guy who has a lot of contacts. I hear it is on the rather expensive side to do.

You can log/capture Mini DV onto a computer via a firewire cable, would likely need an adapter to USB but its certainly doable.

yeah like heath said. you will need a firewire 800 cable and an adapter so that you can plug it into your computer. depends on what kind of computer you have which adapter you need to get. if you have an old mac you need a firewire 800 to thunderbolt adapter. if you have a new mac you need both the firewire 800 to thunderbolt adapter as well as a thunderbolt to usb-c adapter. with mac you can import using imovie.

Buy an old HP laptop from the early 2010s like I did. Would probably be cheaper than buying all the apple adapters, which by the way are the only ones that seem to work. Mine came with a 4 pin 1394 firewire already on it. No adapters. 1 cable straight from the camera to the computer. Capture it with OBS Software and then transfer your exported video file onto whatever computer you wanna edit on.

If you've got a Mac the only way to do it is with adapters and QuickTime player, all the cords would cost about $80. But this setup makes it really easy to get your footage right away.
