so i have decieded to im gunna drop the $ to get a digital slr. im looking to spend around 800-1000. Ive been looking at the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT / 350D and the Nikon D50 and possibly the canon 10d. I know that Canon is considered to be the best but i have heard very good things about the d50 and it is cheaper. I also already have the 35mm rebel ti with the ef 28-90mm and ef 75-300mm lenes and the 420ex speedlite false which i think would be compatible with the 350d which is a plus. just wondering what you guys think cause im not superfimilar with digital slr's

thanks

ive always worked with Nikon. Ive used both the D100 and the D2H. But those are prob out of your budget. Do you currently have any lens'? If not i would say either Nixon or Cannon. A general rule seems to be Nixon focusing more on Speed and Cannon on pixels, but it really all depends on the model. Go see what deals you can get at your local store.

i will just say that i have worked with both nikon and canon. while i am a canon guy i have liked the nikons i have shot(f5 and F100) but nikons lenses cost WAY more then canons do so thing about the accesory prices as well when looking around.

D100 if you want the convenience of AA batteries

D1H/D2H if you want all the pro bells and whistles such as a rapid shutter/frame rate for action phot.

I'll give you a few advice about SLR photography.

First, Canon's no better than Nikon. If you into sport photography, I wouldn't touch the REBEL XT and/or the D50. Go for the 10D (it got discontenued) or the Nikon D70. between those two, I'd go with the D70.

If you want to buy a flash, you might want to testing the flashes before deciding for a model. Buy the same company than your digital SLR. If you go for canon, get a speedlite, but if you go for nikon, get a nikon's flash.

I had the Speedlite 420 before and I returned it to get the 580. Alot more expensive, but worth every penny.

Buy your SLR according to what you want to do with it. You into sports photography? Check out the Speed, ISO features, how many FPS can it do. I have the 20D that shoots at 5 fps and it's ok for me. The Rebel and D70 shoots at 3 fps which is... ok. My friend has a D70 and he would kill to have mine...

Lenses?

Don't buy cheap lenses please or you'll regret it. There's no such things has professionnal cheap lense. All my lenses are worth 1000$ and MORE.

good luck

yeah I use nikon right now I have a D1h and love it, the Rebels are way sick tho tahts what my sis shoots w\/ the Nikons have a faster shutter motor I think. And are oyu sure you can interchange your lenses? Remember you ahve to multiply your mm's by 1.5 when you shoot it digital.

Digital is a great way to go. As to Canon or Nikon...they're both good...Canon currently appears to have the edge in regards to higher ISO shooting in their lower end cameras.....if you plan on shooting sports pics...def. look for a used 20d or 1d...both would be way better than the digital rebel xt and not much more either......remember to save some cash for a couple CF cards, battery grip (to add a vertical shutter release), etc.

Yeah, this battery grip is excellent!

Nikon will release the D200 soon. Their answer to the 20D... Damn, they did something good!
