ya i know, just saw them right after i posted, i havent been on media & arts in a while, and just got really hyped up about starting photography haha my bad
 
Its a great camera but I wouldn't call it a beginners dSLR haha.

Ya can we make this a real thread, I know there have been many others but every thread that I go to about slrs, there are just comments about "theres already a thread just like this.. go look elsewhere"

I am looking for a good cheap beginners DSLR as well, I want one that 8-10 Mp with a pretty fast shutter speed and fps, but I dont want to spend a whole lot, I know the D40 and 60 are pretty good but whats my best option? and another question, some of my PJ friends said that cannon was the way to go, nikon was good but cannon was much better, any thoughts?
 
Honestly as a beginner, megapixels make a small difference. At long at you have as least 8 MP then youll be fine. It just means the higher MP is the larger you will be able to blow it up and have it not look pixelated.
 
any of the canon eos. does anyone have the g9, how is the noise at iso 800? it seems like a friendly learning camera
 
Personally, I have the Nikon D60 and absolutely love it. If this is your first DSLR, all of them are going to take some getting used to. I have never had trouble with my D60 and if I had to go back and buy another DSLR, I would get it again in a heartbeat.

I also found a smokin deal on it and got the entire kit with the 18-55mm lens for $550... be sure to shop around and you'll be able to find some good deals.
 
if I'm gonna be honest I would recommend a 40D to a beginner, it is as easy to use as the 400D, just with expandability, such as spot metering,
 
what about rebel xti vs pentax k20d. i know there is a dif of 4 megapix here, but are there any other huge differences?
 
which a beginner probably isn't going to want to do

however, dont narrow your search to only over 8 megapixels, take a look at the Nikon D40, everyone hates on it because its only got 6 megapixels, but the sensor is extremely well built and this will give you as clear shots as a 8 megapixel or even 10 camera. Plus, its a really great beginner camera, people underestimate it, but really consider it. The price is great for what you get, and with the stock lens that comes with it you'll be set for some great shots.

and honestly, canons are no better than nikons in build quality or clarity.
 
Ha Ha, the age old debate, go to a camera shop and spend 20 minutes playing with comparable Nikons and Canons then decide which make you like, since it's gonna dictate most of the kit you buy for the rest of your days as a photographer... I went Canon, but thats just me...
 
i actually own an olympus, however, i've had experience with both nikons and canons and honestly, they are equal. I'd like to think of this as a mutual opinion,haha
 
yea, I shot Nikon in the past, great cameras, it's just a few things that Cannon have on there bodies which I have come to appreciate, you just get so used to the layout / setup, it becomes natural
 
damn straight, the top-panel on my 40D is crammed full of everything you could ever want to change on-the-go, and then you have a monster menu which you'll only need to change if you're majorly changing scene. God I love my Canon
